Silent Hill 2 (2024) is a full remake of Konami’s 2001 PlayStation 2 psychological-horror game. It expands explorable areas, changes the camera to an over-the-shoulder view, revamps combat and adds cut-scenes. Those are documented scope changes, not proof that every alteration improves the original. This review separates what Konami and platform listings establish from the performance, atmosphere and design judgments that require hands-on testing.
What this review covers
This article concerns the 2024 remake, not the original 2001 release. Konami describes the project as a full remake, with expanded areas, an over-the-shoulder perspective, a revamped combat system and new cut-scenes. The available official material establishes those changes, but it does not establish measured frame rates, image-quality modes, loading performance, game length, accessibility features or how successfully the remake preserves the original’s atmosphere.

What changed in the remake?
Expanded exploration
Konami says the remake adds explorable areas. That means the remake is not simply the 2001 game with higher-resolution assets; its geography and route through Silent Hill have been broadened. Official information does not provide a complete area list or quantify the expansion.
Over-the-shoulder camera
The fixed viewpoint associated with the original has been replaced by an over-the-shoulder perspective. This is a fundamental presentation and control change. Whether it creates more tension, improves visibility or reduces the original’s deliberate visual distance cannot be established from the publisher’s description alone.
#1 Best Overall
- Fully Remade to terrify modern audiences
- KONAMI's intense psychological horror masterpiece SILENT HILL 2 is made exclusively for PlayStation 5
- The main protagonist James Sunderland searches for clues in the namesake town, after receiving a mysterious letter from his wife Mary… who has long been dead
- Experience the eerie monsters and other manifestations of James' consciousness reworked after 20 years
- Made with state-of-the-art technology to play on modern entertainment systems in 4K
Revamped combat
Combat has been redesigned rather than merely preserved. The available official sources do not specify enemy behavior, weapon balance, dodge or aiming details, or how often fighting can be avoided, so claims about difficulty and responsiveness should be treated as unverified until supported by direct play or independent testing.
New cut-scenes and altered expectations
The remake adds cut-scenes. Producer Motoi Okamoto also said the team would “sometimes twist and confound player’s expectations” with puzzle solutions as a tribute to the original’s inventiveness. “Sometimes” does not mean every puzzle has changed, and the statement provides no count or list of revised solutions.
Platforms and release dates
The original launch was on PS5 and PC on October 8, 2024. Later listings add Xbox Series X|S, with the US Xbox store giving November 21, 2025 as its release date. Konami’s current US product page lists PS5, Steam, Epic and GOG, while its European support information lists PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S. Availability can vary by region and storefront, so check the local listing before buying.
| Platform | Availability documented by official listings | Date or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Listed | Original launch: October 8, 2024 |
| PC — Steam | Listed | Original launch: October 8, 2024 |
| PC — Epic Games Store | Listed on Konami’s current US product page | Check the regional storefront for current offer details |
| PC — GOG | Listed on Konami’s current US product page | Check the regional storefront for current offer details |
| Xbox Series X|S | Listed | US Xbox listing date: November 21, 2025 |
Konami’s European support article says there is no cross-play among PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S. Platform availability and physical inventory are separate questions: a game can be officially supported in a region while a particular disc edition is unavailable from a retailer.

What is not established by the available evidence
A responsible review should not turn a feature list into a verdict. The official sources do not establish:
- frame-rate targets or stability;
- resolution, graphics modes or image-quality differences between platforms;
- loading times or technical issues;
- campaign length, pacing or replay value;
- the effectiveness of the new camera and combat in practice;
- the fidelity of the remake’s atmosphere, performances or story presentation;
- the full set of accessibility options; or
- a reliable independent review consensus.
Those questions need firsthand play evidence or suitably documented independent testing. They should not be inferred from Konami’s promotional wording.
Rank #4
- This is Korean Version released in Korea. Region free title so you can play it on your System.
- Korean Edition supports Multi language Subtitles: English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean
- Having received a letter from his deceased wife, James heads to where they shared so many memories, in the hope of seeing her one more time: SILENT HILL. There, by the lake, he finds a woman eerily similar to her... "My name...is Maria," the woman smiles. Her face, her voice... She's just like her. Experience a master class in psychological survival horror―lauded as the best in the series―on the latest hardware with chilling visuals and visceral sounds.
Sales and edition information
Konami Digital Entertainment announced in 2025 that the remake had surpassed two million units sold. That is a publisher-reported total; the announcement does not provide an independently audited platform breakdown.
A 2024 PlayStation Blog post describes a Deluxe Edition containing a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack featuring Akira Yamaoka’s music and a Pyramid Head mask made from a pizza box. Treat those contents as the details described in that post, not as a guarantee that the same package is currently offered in every store or region.

Which version should you choose?
Choose PS5 if you want the console edition
PS5 was part of the October 8, 2024 launch and is the clearest console starting point in the original release information. Confirm whether you are purchasing a physical or digital edition and whether the included features match the current regional listing.
Choose PC if you want storefront choice
Konami’s current US product page lists Steam, Epic and GOG. Compare each store’s system requirements, refund rules and edition contents directly; the available evidence does not establish comparative performance among them.
Choose Xbox Series X|S for Microsoft’s platform
The US Xbox store lists the remake for Xbox Series X|S with a November 21, 2025 date. Check the local Xbox store because release timing, language support and edition availability can differ by region.
Bottom line for prospective players
Silent Hill 2 (2024) is a substantial remake rather than a cosmetic reissue: exploration, viewpoint, combat and cut-scenes have all been changed or expanded. The documented information is enough to explain what version you are buying and where it is available, but not enough to award a defensible quality verdict on tension, pacing, technical performance or faithfulness. If those qualities determine your purchase, consult current independent reviews or hands-on testing alongside the official platform listing.
