Yes, Taco Bell really did offer chances to win an Xbox Series X in 2020. The U.S. promotion is long over: its national drink-code game ran from September 24 to November 4, 2020, according to archived reproductions of the rules. It cannot be entered today, and buying a Taco Bell drink now will not get you into that giveaway.
What Taco Bell and Xbox announced
Taco Bell and Xbox announced the promotion on September 10, 2020, as part of their annual partnership. It was timed around the launch of the Xbox Series X, which became available on November 10, 2020. The giveaway offered a chance to win the then-new console before launch; it was a historical promotion, not a standing Taco Bell offer. Taco Bell’s announcement and Xbox Wire’s announcement describe the original campaign.
How the national drink-code game worked
During the 2020 promotion, customers at participating U.S. Taco Bell locations or using the Taco Bell app could receive a game code with a medium or large drink. Small drinks and regular Freeze cups were excluded from this code offer. Codes provided a chance to play an instant-win game; a qualifying drink did not guarantee a prize. Taco Bell advertised up to three plays per day and an approximate prize event every 15 minutes. That cadence described when prizes were awarded, not an individual entrant’s odds.
A purchase was not required. Taco Bell said the official rules included an alternative entry method and that buying something did not improve the chances of winning. The surviving announcement does not provide enough information to calculate an entrant’s odds. The promotion was limited to participating locations and promotional supplies, so not every restaurant necessarily had codes. Taco Bell’s announcement has the published entry overview.

The Rewards Beta drawings were a separate promotion
Taco Bell also offered an earlier opportunity through its Rewards Beta program. Customers had to download the app and join Rewards by September 13, 2020; eligible members who opted in to emails could be included in daily drawings from September 15 through September 21. Those drawings preceded the national drink-code game and had different requirements. They also ended in 2020. The dates and membership details appear in the Taco Bell announcement.
What the Xbox prize included
- One Xbox Series X console
- One Xbox Wireless Controller
- Six months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
Taco Bell said the Game Pass benefit had to be redeemed by February 4, 2021. That deadline has passed. The bundle was not described as a special Taco Bell-branded Series X. The distinctive Taco Bell startup sound and themed Xbox One X models belonged to earlier campaigns, not this Series X prize. Taco Bell’s 2020 release describes the bundle and distinguishes it from prior partnerships.

When did the giveaway end, and how many prizes were there?
Archived reproductions of the promotion rules report that the national game ran September 24 through November 4, 2020. Taco Bell’s surviving newsroom announcement confirms the start but does not itself state the full game period, so the end date is best treated as an archived-rules detail. An archived discussion reproducing promotion details is one such reference.
Some contemporary sweepstakes listings and archived rule references report 4,032 total prizes, including Xbox bundles and smaller Taco Bell prizes. That figure is not stated in Taco Bell’s surviving announcement, so it should be understood as a secondary-source report rather than a number confirmed in the release. A historical sweepstakes listing gives that total. It is not possible to infer an individual’s odds from either the reported prize count or the advertised prize cadence.

Can you still enter or use an old code?
No. The promotion and its entry window ended in 2020, and the Game Pass redemption deadline passed in 2021. The old domain winxbox.com and any codes, text instructions, or mail-in directions associated with the campaign are historical—not a current entry path. Do not buy a drink expecting a code for this giveaway, and be cautious of unofficial pages that present the expired contest as active or request personal information in connection with it.
