It was not a tool for generating whole games, characters, or worlds. The companies announced the integration in May 2024, but the original plan for a global OVERDARE launch that year was later superseded by Krafton’s 2025 investor guidance pointing to a 2026 official launch. As of August 18, 2026, public documentation confirms an active OVERDARE Studio creator ecosystem, but does not establish that Kinetix’s player-facing Emote Creator is globally available.
What Kinetix and OVERDARE announced
Kinetix was to provide video-to-animation technology for an in-game OVERDARE feature called Emote Creator. A player could supply movement footage and turn the motion into a custom animation mapped to a 3D avatar. The result would be an emote performed by the character, not a video displayed inside the game.
The companies framed the idea as a way to move beyond fixed emote libraries. Kinetix described its work as an effort to put generative AI in gamers’ hands, but “first” was promotional positioning, not an independently established milestone for the games industry. The announcement and examples are documented in GamesBeat’s May 2024 coverage.
How video-to-emote generation works
The announced concept can be understood as a short pipeline: a person performs a movement for a camera, software estimates the body motion, and that motion is converted and retargeted so a game avatar can perform it. The likely player journey would then include preview and moderation before an emote could be used. Public materials do not establish a complete consumer-facing workflow, so specific controls, upload limits, supported devices, and processing times should not be assumed.

Kinetix says its approach uses mesh-aware retargeting and a synthetic training pipeline designed to account for different character morphologies and scenes. Its research page also identifies the OVERDARE implementation as an in-game Emote Creator. Those technical descriptions explain the aim, but do not guarantee that every movement will transfer cleanly to every avatar. Kinetix’s research description provides the company’s account of the technology.
What players could make—and what that does not authorize
The examples around the partnership included personal dances, sports celebrations, gestures inspired by internet trends, and movements drawn from film or television. In a social game, a custom emote can be a greeting, a joke, a victory celebration, or a way to make an avatar feel more personal without changing the game’s rules.
Those examples describe creative possibilities, not permission to copy protected choreography, use someone else’s likeness, or reproduce branded material. Converting a reference video into motion data does not by itself settle copyright, privacy, or consent questions.

Why motion generation is different from ordinary UGC
Most user-generated-content tools let people select, arrange, remix, or script assets supplied by a game. Kinetix’s proposed contribution was narrower and distinct: generate new character motion from a human performance. That adds a creative layer to UGC; it does not replace the work of building worlds, objects, rules, or scripts.
| Activity | What the creator is making |
|---|---|
| Asset remixing | A composition using existing objects, animations, or templates. |
| Motion generation | An animation derived from movement footage and retargeted to a character. |
| Game creation | Worlds, mechanics, objects, and scripts, typically using creator tools. |
Emotes matter because they let players communicate and perform socially. Kinetix and OVERDARE presented more personalized expression as a potential driver of interaction, retention, user-generated content, and social sharing. Those are intended business outcomes, not independently demonstrated results from this partnership.
What each company and product contributes
OVERDARE is the platform
OVERDARE is a Krafton-associated mobile UGC platform intended for player- and creator-made experiences. Its site describes a place to create, connect, and share; its documentation covers world creation and publishing. The player-facing platform is distinct from the software creators use to build for it. See the OVERDARE site and world-publishing guide.

OVERDARE Studio is the creator application
OVERDARE Studio is documented as free to install and is distributed through the Epic Games Store. The installation guide lists an Epic Games account, Epic Games Launcher, OVERDARE Creator Hub account, and Studio login as prerequisites. Free Studio access should not be read as a promise that publishing, incentives, virtual currency, or future monetization are free or available on particular terms. The Studio installation guide gives the account and setup requirements.
On April 16, 2025, OVERDARE said Studio distribution was available exclusively through the Epic Games Store and advised users with older installations to remove and reinstall through Epic if the old version did not work properly. The distribution notice contains that guidance.
Kinetix supplies motion technology and developer infrastructure
Kinetix’s developer materials describe a Unity SDK, API, and Developer Portal for integrating user-generated emotes, previewing output, and managing moderation. They are developer-facing options, not evidence of a standalone consumer animation app or a globally available OVERDARE feature. The documentation includes a Unity SDK integration guide, API-key setup information, and Developer Portal guidance. Kinetix also describes technology integrations beyond OVERDARE, including Unity Muse and Adobe Mixamo, on its research page.

The launch timeline changed
| Date | What was reported or documented |
|---|---|
| May 29, 2024 | Kinetix and OVERDARE announced the emote integration. OVERDARE was described as being in Android alpha in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia, with a global release planned later in 2024. This was the plan at the time, not confirmation of a later global launch. Source. |
| April 16, 2025 | OVERDARE announced that Studio distribution was exclusive to the Epic Games Store. Source. |
| 2025 investor guidance | Krafton’s first-quarter investor presentation listed OVERDARE’s official launch as planned for 2026, indicating that the earlier 2024 timetable had changed. Source. |
| March 4, 2026 | OVERDARE documentation lists Studio release v30.1.0. A Studio release note demonstrates ongoing creator-software updates, not that the Kinetix Emote Creator is available to all players. Source. |
Accordingly, the partnership is best described as an announced integration with a documented technical concept, not as a confirmed global consumer launch. Current Studio documentation and release notes show activity in the creator ecosystem, but the available public sources do not verify the original player-facing feature’s worldwide availability as of August 18, 2026.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Moderation, privacy, and rights are part of the feature
Letting users generate motion from footage expands the volume and variety of content a platform must review. Kinetix says its system included moderation, with proactive automated checks and reactive moderation managed through its Developer Portal. OVERDARE’s policies put responsibility for uploaded UGC on creators and allow content to be restricted, removed, or made private for guideline or copyright violations. See Kinetix’s portal documentation and OVERDARE’s UGC creation guidelines.
Relevant risks include sexual or hateful gestures, harassment, violence or extremist symbolism, impersonation, footage of people who did not consent, and material involving minors. Automated systems can miss context; human review and reporting processes matter, too. A movement that is technically valid may still violate a platform rule.

Rights questions remain even if a system outputs animation rather than reproducing the source video. Before uploading or publishing, a creator should consider whether they own or have permission to use the footage, whether it includes another person’s likeness, and whether the motion imitates a recognizable protected performance. OVERDARE’s external-use policy says users must not use another user’s content or avatar without consent, must respect intellectual-property and personal-information rights, and may need permission to use OVERDARE IP commercially. It does not establish that generated emotes are automatically copyright-free or specify every ownership and licensing outcome. Read the external-use policy and use original footage and movements unless the current platform terms clearly permit the intended use.
Practical limits for players and platform operators
- Motion quality: Poor framing or obscured body parts can make motion harder to interpret. Fast or complex movements, multiple people in frame, and mismatched avatar proportions can produce artifacts or degraded retargeting.
- Discovery: A large supply of emotes may make useful or high-quality creations harder to find.
- Moderation load: Near-unlimited generation can increase review, reporting, storage, and operational demands.
- Platform constraints: Rig compatibility, filters, quotas, and publishing rules mean that “infinite emotes” is a marketing shorthand, not a literal guarantee.
- Economics: Generation can carry infrastructure costs, but public materials here do not establish current Kinetix commercial pricing or the economics of the OVERDARE integration.
Kinetix API documentation describes a default key with 40 feature users and 2,000 user-generated-emote API calls, along with a limit on successful generations and an upgrade path to an unlimited key. These are documentation-era limits, not verified current quotas or a consumer allowance; developers should check the current terms directly. The documentation does not establish a current price. What the partnership means for each audience
Players
If the feature is available to them, players could express themselves with motion that is more personal than choosing from a preset catalog. That benefit depends on the creation workflow being accessible, the result looking good on the player’s avatar, and the platform allowing the content.
Creators
OVERDARE Studio gives creators documented tools for building worlds and publishing experiences. Kinetix’s motion technology points toward another kind of UGC—performance-based animation—but the public material does not establish a current, universally available creator workflow for that integration.
Platform operators and developers
Custom emotes could offer another route to social engagement and content sharing, while Kinetix’s SDK and API materials outline ways developers can integrate emote generation. Any retention, revenue, or cost advantage remains a proposition rather than a measured result in the cited announcement. A production integration also requires engineering, avatar setup, moderation, and operational oversight.
