Best shooting games for Android and iPhone
Call of Duty: Mobile: best all-round mobile shooter
Choose Call of Duty: Mobile if you want quick multiplayer matches and battle royale in one touch-first game. Activision describes it as a standalone mobile title for Android, iPhone, and iPad, combining modes and content associated with the Call of Duty series. Its customizable touch controls make it a practical starting point if you want an arcade-style shooter rather than a slow tactical one. See the Activision FAQ for current compatibility and account details.
It is free to download, but it is a free-to-play live service, not a promise of a cost-free experience: optional purchases and progression systems are part of the model. Activision lists Android 6.0 or later and at least 2 GB of RAM as a compatibility baseline. That is not a guarantee of smooth frame rates, low heat, or comfortable play on every device that meets the minimum. Large content updates can also consume storage and mobile data.
#1 Best Overall

- MOBILE, CLOUD & REMOTE GAMING: Play supported mobile games like Zenless Zone Zero, or stream console and PC games through Xbox Game Pass, Steam Link, Moonlight, and remote play. Enjoy physical controls wherever you play.

PUBG Mobile: best for slower, more deliberate mobile battle royale
Pick PUBG Mobile if you enjoy looting, positioning, survival, and longer engagements more than rapid arcade respawns. It supports first- and third-person perspectives and suits players willing to coordinate with a squad and learn maps. The trade-off is a steeper learning curve and longer sessions than a typical short-match mobile FPS.
Do not confuse PUBG Mobile with PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS on Windows. They are separate products, not interchangeable clients. The cited PUBG Mobile competition rulebook specifies Android and iOS handheld devices and prohibits emulators in that competition context. That rule is specific to the cited competition; it does not establish every current public matchmaking rule, so check the game’s current policies rather than treating an emulator as official Windows support.
Fortnite: best for social play and flexible battle royale
Fortnite is the best fit here for groups that want squad play, events, and a choice between building and No-Build battle royale. Its wider range of experiences can be a plus for friends who want more than a conventional shooter, though the breadth of menus and modes may distract someone seeking only a straightforward FPS. Building and editing also add a separate skill gap.
Mobile availability depends on country, storefront, and device, particularly on iPhone. Check the official Fortnite site for current installation options in your region instead of assuming it is listed in every app store. Expect a live-service game with substantial updates and optional cosmetic spending.

Delta Force: best mobile pick for large-scale military action
Delta Force is worth considering if you want a more military-oriented shooter with large-scale warfare and extraction-style play. Its official site presents it as a free-to-play tactical shooter spanning mobile and Windows. Extraction modes are less forgiving than ordinary respawn matches: evaluate whether you enjoy risking a run’s progress before making them your main mode.
Mobile and Windows support does not by itself prove identical content, cross-progression, or shared matchmaking. Check the current regional platform listings and account information for the feature you care about. On mobile, large-scale modes may also be a heavier demand on storage, battery, and device performance than simpler shooters.
Best shooting games for Windows
Counter-Strike 2: best for focused competitive FPS fundamentals
Counter-Strike 2 is the pick for players who want round-based tactical shooting built around aim, positioning, utility, and an in-match economy. A lost round matters, so it is less forgiving than respawn-based games and can be a tough first shooter. Its free-to-play Windows entry is listed on Steam. The competitive experience depends on matchmaking and anti-cheat conditions as well as individual skill.
VALORANT: best for tactical shooting with character abilities
VALORANT has the same broad appeal of planned, round-based team fights, but agents bring distinct abilities into each round. Choose it over Counter-Strike 2 if you want utility tied to named characters; be ready to learn both shooting fundamentals and agent-specific tools. Team communication matters. Riot’s official site is the place to check current Windows, account, and anti-cheat requirements. This is not a recommendation for a native phone version.

- Cushioned and Durable Membrane: The X5 Lite is equipped with cushioned and durable membrane triggers and buttons. The cushioned feedback provides a comfortable experience while ensuring quieter operation
Apex Legends: best for movement-heavy squad fights
Apex Legends suits players who want fast movement, distinct legends, weapon choices, and squad abilities in battle royale and respawn modes. Its pace and mechanical demands can punish newcomers who are separated from teammates or unfamiliar with the map. It is a Windows recommendation, not a verified current native mobile pick. Check the official Apex Legends site for current platform and mode information.
Rainbow Six Siege X: best for deliberate team tactics
Choose Rainbow Six Siege X if you value information, sound, preparation, operator abilities, and destructible environments more than constant running-and-gunning. Rounds can feel tense and slow, and map and operator knowledge make a real difference; it is consequently a demanding first competitive shooter. Ubisoft’s official Siege site has current product and edition information. It is a Windows-focused choice in this guide, not a mobile counterpart.
Which games work across mobile and Windows?
The clearest candidates in this list are Delta Force and Fortnite, but “on both platforms” does not mean “the same experience.” Different clients may have separate controls, content, updates, accounts, matchmaking pools, or progression. Confirm each feature with the publisher before choosing based on playing with friends or carrying progress between devices.
- Delta Force: the official site presents mobile and Windows versions. Confirm whether your region’s versions share accounts, modes, progression, or matchmaking.
- Fortnite: available across a broad platform ecosystem, but regional mobile access and installation routes vary. Check the official site for your device and country.
- Call of Duty: Mobile and PUBG Mobile: treat these as mobile games. Do not present an emulator as an equivalent native Windows release; PUBG Mobile competition rules specifically restrict emulator use in the cited event context.
Cross-play (playing together across platforms) and cross-progression (using the same progress on multiple platforms) are separate features. Verify both rather than inferring them from a game’s platform list.

It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
Choose by play style, session, and skill level
If you are new to shooters
Start with Call of Duty: Mobile for familiar arcade modes, or try Fortnite’s No-Build option if construction sounds like an unnecessary extra skill to learn. Delta Force’s larger-scale modes may give you room to learn, but its extraction play is a poor first choice if losing a run’s progress would frustrate you. Counter-Strike 2, VALORANT, and Siege reward substantial map, utility, and team knowledge; expect a steeper start.
If you want ranked or competitive play
- Counter-Strike 2: prioritize precise gunplay, positioning, rounds, and economy decisions.
- VALORANT: add agent abilities and team utility to tactical shooting.
- Rainbow Six Siege X: focus on information, destruction, operator tools, and deliberate coordination.
- PUBG Mobile: compete in mobile battle royale, while respecting the platform and input rules of the specific competition.
- Call of Duty: Mobile: choose faster arcade-style competition designed around phones.
A large audience alone does not prove a game is the best competitive fit for you. Consider input fairness, matchmaking, communication demands, and the kind of skill you want to practice.
If you play in short bursts or long sessions
Call of Duty: Mobile is the clearest short-match choice in this selection. Round-based Windows games such as Counter-Strike 2 and VALORANT require enough time to complete a match, while PUBG Mobile and battle royale or extraction sessions can run longer. Exact duration depends on mode and match circumstances.
If you want solo play or offline play
The major recommendations here are predominantly online shooters. An online game’s bot practice or training mode is not the same as a full offline campaign, and a game may still require authentication or connectivity. The available evidence does not establish a specific offline campaign recommendation for this list, so check a game’s current requirements before choosing it for travel or unreliable internet.

Free-to-play, purchases, and other costs
Free-to-play means there is no entry price for the listed base experience; it does not mean there are no optional purchases, account requirements, downloads, or data costs. Activision says Call of Duty: Mobile is free to download through the major mobile stores. Steam lists Counter-Strike 2 as free-to-play. Delta Force’s official site uses free-to-play positioning. Check each game’s current storefront for its precise edition and purchase terms.
- Live-service games may sell cosmetics, battle passes, or in-game currency. These purchases are optional to access a free-to-play base game, but limited-time events and progression can create pressure to keep up.
- Do not assume that every item is cosmetic or that spending creates a competitive advantage; inspect the current item and mode rules rather than applying a blanket label such as “pay-to-win.”
- Large updates and optional content can make storage and bandwidth a meaningful cost, especially on mobile data.
- Voice and text chat, account creation, notifications, and privacy settings are worth reviewing before a child plays.
Hardware, controls, and low-end devices
Android and iPhone
Call of Duty: Mobile’s published Android baseline is version 6.0 or later and 2 GB RAM, according to the Activision FAQ. Treat that as a compatibility floor, not a smooth-performance promise. A device may technically launch a game yet struggle with frame rate, heat, battery life, or updates. Check free storage and the current store listing before downloading; performance varies by device, graphics settings, and mode.
Touch controls are convenient for quick sessions, and games that allow control customization can take practice to tune. A Bluetooth controller may improve comfort, but support and matchmaking treatment are game-specific. It can change which opponents you meet, so verify the rules before using one in competitive play. Gyroscope aiming and controller support should likewise be checked title by title rather than assumed.
Windows PCs and laptops
Minimum PC requirements are launch baselines, not guarantees of stable frame rates or competitive performance. A game can technically start and still stutter, run with input latency, or perform poorly on integrated graphics. Check CPU, memory, GPU, storage, and operating-system requirements on the official store page, and distinguish the stated minimum from recommended specifications.
For a lightweight Windows candidate, Steam’s Forward Assault listing gives a 64-bit operating system, Intel Core i5-class processor, and 4 GB RAM as minimum requirements. Those figures do not establish smooth performance on every machine or the game’s current player population, so it is not a guaranteed low-end solution. A mouse and keyboard are the standard practical choice for Windows tactical shooters; a controller is not universally supported or advantageous.
Playing with children: check ratings, chat, and purchases
There is no reliable blanket “safe for children” verdict for an online shooter. Age ratings differ by region and storefront, and a rating does not capture every child’s response to violence, online chat, or purchase prompts. Check the rating shown for the specific edition in your country, then review voice and text chat controls, friend permissions, in-app purchase settings, and parental controls. Fortnite’s user-created experiences and social features make it especially important to review what a child can access, rather than judging only the battle royale mode.
How to decide
- For a phone-first, all-purpose shooter: begin with Call of Duty: Mobile.
- For mobile battle royale with a slower, survival-focused pace: choose PUBG Mobile.
- For friends who want social modes and No-Build battle royale: try Fortnite, after checking regional device availability.
- For a military shooter on mobile and Windows: investigate Delta Force, then verify account, cross-play, and progression details for your region.
- For tactical Windows competition: choose Counter-Strike 2 for fundamentals and economy, or VALORANT for agent abilities.
- For movement-led squad battle royale: try Apex Legends; for information-heavy tactical rounds, try Rainbow Six Siege X.
For official platform and account details, use the relevant publisher page: Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG Mobile, Delta Force, Fortnite, Counter-Strike 2, VALORANT, Apex Legends, and Rainbow Six Siege X.
