Yes—Xbox really did announce its “biggest booth yet” for Gamescom 2024. The event has since concluded: its public days ran August 21–25, 2024, in Cologne, Germany, following Opening Night Live on August 20. Xbox’s later retrospective backed up the scale claim, but no exact booth area was published in the cited accounts.
What Xbox announced in June 2024
On June 20, Xbox confirmed it would return to Gamescom and described the planned installation as its “biggest booth yet.” That was a comparison with Xbox’s own previous booths, not a claim that it would be the largest exhibitor space at the entire convention. The initial announcement did not give a square-meter measurement.
The first announced lineup mixed games from Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard. Xbox also said more titles would be revealed later, so the June list was not the complete event program. Windows Central’s report on the announcement records the initial wording and lineup.
Initial lineup
- Age of Mythology: Retold
- Avowed
- Ara: History Untold
- Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred
- Diablo Immortal
- The Elder Scrolls Online
- Fallout 76
- Towerborne
- World of Warcraft: The War Within
Being on this announcement list did not by itself establish that every game would be playable. Xbox detailed specific hands-on demos in its later event plan.

What visitors could see and do
The expanded plan combined game demos with stage-style presentations and fan activities. Later reporting on the Xbox and Activision Blizzard plans named hands-on demos for Age of Mythology: Retold, Ara: History Untold, Towerborne, Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred, Fallout 76: Milepost Zero, and The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road. It also described theater presentations, photo opportunities, and activities tied to Xbox, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard franchises. The detailed event-plan report covers those additions.
- Game Pass activities: The booth plan included activities and giveaways.
- Merchandise: A physical Xbox Gear Shop was planned to sell Xbox, Bethesda, Activision, and Blizzard merchandise.
- Community programming: A Community Area was set to host cosplay meetups, trivia, and appearances by developers or voice actors.
- FanFest: Xbox also planned FanFest activities. These were event-specific opportunities, not an ongoing offer.
- Live broadcasts: Xbox and Bethesda planned daily livestreams from the show floor, giving remote viewers a way to follow some of the event programming.
Which games belonged to which part of Xbox
The booth brought together multiple studios and brands; it was not a lineup made exclusively of Xbox Game Studios-developed games. The initial announcement and later event plan establish the following distinctions and formats. Where the cited plans did not identify a format for a title, it is marked as not stated rather than assumed.

| Group | Games or properties named | Format established in the cited plans |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Game Studios | Age of Mythology: Retold, Ara: History Untold, Avowed, Towerborne | Hands-on demos were specifically named for Age of Mythology: Retold, Ara: History Untold, and Towerborne. The June announcement listed Avowed; its specific format is not stated in the cited plans. |
| Bethesda | The Elder Scrolls Online, Fallout 76, Starfield, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle | Hands-on demos were specifically named for The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road and Fallout 76: Milepost Zero. The later plan also referenced Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in its broader event programming; their specific format is not stated here. |
| Activision Blizzard | Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred, Diablo Immortal, World of Warcraft: The War Within; Call of Duty-related programming | A hands-on demo was specifically named for Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred. The June announcement listed the other titles, while the specific format for them and the Call of Duty-related programming is not stated in the cited plans. |
| Third-party partners | Additional partner games were part of Xbox’s wider show presence | Individual titles and formats are not stated in the cited accounts. |
After the event, Xbox staff said approximately 40–50 games had appeared across the booth and Xbox broadcasts combined. That figure covers both in-person and streamed programming; it is not a count of unique playable demos. Xbox’s retrospective podcast discussion is the source for that estimate.
Accessibility and visitor support
The announced booth provisions included wheelchair-accessible areas, Xbox Adaptive Controllers available on request, ASL and DGS sign-language interpreters, audio-description guides, accessory aids, and a quiet room. Staff described as “Here to Help” were also part of the support plan. These were announced provisions for the 2024 event, not a guarantee that every service was continuously available at every station.

How large was the booth, really?
Xbox’s post-event account supports the central claim: staff described the installation as the biggest booth Xbox had made and recalled that it occupied roughly half of a hall. They connected the expanded presence to Activision joining Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda. The “half a hall” figure is a staff recollection, not a published architectural measurement, so it should not be converted into an exact floor area or treated as an independent survey.
Separately, Neowin reported that Microsoft’s Gamescom 2024 presence included more than 240 gaming stations. That is a reported total for stations, not a count of different games or proof that every station offered a playable demo. Neowin’s event-plan report gives that figure.

What the “biggest booth ever” claim proves
The claim was real, and Xbox’s later account is consistent with a particularly broad presence spanning Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard. The evidence supports “largest by Xbox’s own historical comparison,” not an industry-wide record. Xbox did not publish a definitive booth-area figure in the cited accounts, and some announced games were part of presentations or broadcasts rather than confirmed hands-on demos. The 2024 booth and its activities are over; the announcement should be read as event history, not a current invitation.
