Logitech G502 X Plus review: Keep scrollin’, scrollin’, scrollin’, scrollin’ (what?)

The G502 X Plus delivers excellent wireless performance, extensive controls and unusually useful free-spin scrolling, but its 106 g weight, no Bluetooth and divisive wheel redesign make it a targeted rather than universal recommendation.

Verdict: The Logitech G502 X Plus is an excellent premium wireless mouse for right-handed players who want a substantial shape, many controls and genuinely useful dual-mode scrolling. Its 106 g weight, lack of Bluetooth, G HUB dependence and divisive redesigned wheel stop it from being a universal recommendation. Buy it on sale if you want the G502 formula; choose the G502 X LIGHTSPEED if RGB is not important.

What the G502 X Plus is

The G502 X Plus is the RGB-equipped wireless member of Logitech’s 2022 G502 X family. The range also includes the wired G502 X and the non-RGB G502 X LIGHTSPEED. Logitech redesigned the established G502 shape with LIGHTFORCE hybrid optical-mechanical switches, an updated LIGHTSPEED wireless system, USB-C charging, a lighter chassis and a new scroll wheel. Logitech’s launch announcement describes the design and POWERPLAY compatibility at Logitech’s announcement.

“Plus” mainly means eight-zone LIGHTSYNC RGB. The sensor, core controls, wireless platform and scroll-wheel concept are shared with the G502 X LIGHTSPEED, so the price difference is chiefly a lighting decision rather than a performance upgrade.

Logitech G502 X Plus Wireless RGB Gaming Mouse - Black
  • Icon reinvented: From the legacy of Logitech’s most popular G502 design, G502 X PLUS is reimagined and redesigned with the latest innovations in gaming technology; available in black and white
  • LIGHTFORCE switches: All-new hybrid optical-mechanical switch technology for incredible speed and reliability, as well as precise actuation with crisp response, for hours of performance gaming
  • LIGHTSYNC RGB: This RGB gaming mouse features glowing 8-LED lighting that’s customizable and adapts as you game with startup/power-down effects and battery optimisation through active play detection
  • LIGHTSPEED wireless: This wireless mouse features pro-grade connectivity, with an updated protocol achieving 68 percent faster response rate than the previous generation and improved reliability
  • HERO 25K gaming sensor: Incredibly precise down to the sub-micron for high-precision accuracy with zero smoothing/filtering/acceleration for high gaming performance every time on the computer
  • Ratchet: distinct notches for precise movement and controlled weapon or menu selection.
  • Free-spin: low-resistance scrolling through long documents, web pages, spreadsheets and timelines.

The wheel also has left- and right-tilt inputs and a clickable middle button. In productivity use, free-spin is one of the most useful features on the mouse. In games, ratchet mode and tilt assignments can add commands without sacrificing the thumb buttons. Switching modes is easy to reach, although it is not a control you will necessarily want to operate during a hectic fight.

The important qualification is feel. Logitech says the X generation uses a lighter redesigned wheel intended to improve stability. WePC found the wheel less satisfying than earlier metal G502 implementations and reported that extra force on side-scroll could tilt the mouse. TechRadar and PCGamesN emphasize its versatility, while RTINGS confirms the free-scroll and tilt functions in a measurement-focused review. The fair conclusion is that the wheel is unusually versatile, not universally superior. Long-time G502 owners may prefer the older wheel’s heavier, more planted feel.

Shape, dimensions and comfort

This is a strongly right-handed, palm-oriented mouse with a thumb shelf and a sloping right side for ring-finger and pinky support. Logitech lists these dimensions and weight in its specification sheet:

Measurement G502 X Plus
Length 131.4 mm (5.17 in)
Width 79.2 mm (3.12 in)
Height 41.1 mm (1.62 in)
Weight 106 g (3.74 oz)

The body suits palm and relaxed claw grips particularly well. Large hands get meaningful palm support, while smaller hands may struggle to reach the forward thumb controls or DPI-shift button without changing grip. Fingertip users and players accustomed to 50–70 g esports mice will notice the weight immediately. It can feel controlled for low-sensitivity play, but it is not a lightweight competitive design.

Buttons and customization

Logitech counts 11 physical buttons and 13 programmable controls. That total includes the wheel click, both tilt directions, the scroll-mode switch and the other top and thumb inputs; it does not mean 13 independent buttons arranged around the shell.

Logitech G502 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse - Black
  • PowerPlay wireless charging: Never worry about your battery life again. Add the power play wireless charging system to keep your G502 Lightspeed Wireless Mouse and other compatible G mice charged while at rest and at play. Powerplay wireless charging system sold separately
  • Light speed wireless gaming mouse: Exclusive Logitech G ultra-fast wireless technology used by Pro gamers in competitions worldwide
  • Hero 25K sensor through a software update from G HUB, this upgrade is free to all players: Our most advanced, with 1:1 tracking, 400plus ips, and 100 - 25,600 max dpi sensitivity plus zero smoothing, filtering, or acceleration
  • 11 customizable buttons and hyper fast scroll wheel: Assign custom macro and shortcut commands to the buttons for each game with Logitech G hub software. Use hyper fast scrolling to rapidly review menus, long web pages and more
  • Note: In case of Wireless mouse, the USB receiver will be provided inside or along with the mouse
  • Left and right primary clicks
  • Wheel click and left/right tilt
  • Two main thumb buttons
  • DPI-shift (sniper) button
  • Additional top controls and scroll-mode switch

The DPI-shift button is removable, reversible through 180 degrees or replaceable with a cover. That lets you move it closer to the thumb, hide it to prevent accidental presses or adapt the thumb area to hand size. The abundance is excellent for MMOs, strategy games, simulations and productivity shortcuts, but it can crowd the thumb and requires setup time.

Switches and click character

The primary buttons use Logitech’s LIGHTFORCE hybrid optical-mechanical switches. Logitech presents the design as combining optical actuation with mechanical feedback, speed and reliability. In practice, expect a tactile, audible click with ordinary gaming and office usability. Click force, pre-travel and noise remain matters of preference; the hybrid design is not a guarantee of longer life unless supported by independent long-term testing.

Gaming performance and sensor

The HERO 25K sensor is specified for 100–25,600 DPI, more than 400 IPS tracking and more than 40 G acceleration. Those are Logitech figures, not a promise of better aim. Most players will never approach the maximum DPI or tracking limits; shape, weight, glide, click consistency and button placement have a larger effect on control.

RTINGS found strong gaming performance and lower click latency than the older G502 LIGHTSPEED. The 1,000 Hz report rate is a nominal 1 ms interval and remains responsive, but it is conventional by 2026 rather than a cutting-edge 4,000 or 8,000 Hz feature. The mouse works well for RPGs, action games, strategy, simulation, MMOs and mixed use. It is suitable for FPS play if you prefer a heavier palm mouse, but players seeking the lowest possible mass should look elsewhere.

Wireless, receiver and compatibility

The mouse uses Logitech’s proprietary 2.4 GHz LIGHTSPEED connection and includes a USB-A receiver, extension adapter and USB-C cable. Logitech claims the updated protocol has a 68% faster response rate than the previous generation and supports receiver sharing for compatible LIGHTSPEED devices through G HUB’s Device Pairing Tool; that is a Logitech claim, not an independent latency guarantee.

Logitech G G502 X Wired Gaming Mouse - LIGHTFORCE Hybrid Optical-Mechanical Primary switches, Hero 25K Gaming Sensor, Compatible with PC - macOS/Windows - Black
  • Icon reinvented: From the legacy of Logitech's most popular G502 design, the G502 X wired gaming mouse is reimagined and redesigned with the latest innovations in gaming technology
  • LIGHTFORCE switches: All-new hybrid optical-mechanical switch technology for incredible speed and reliability, as well as precise actuation with crisp response, for hours of performance gaming
  • HERO 25K gaming sensor: Incredibly precise down to the sub-micron for high-precision accuracy with zero smoothing/filtering/acceleration for high gaming performance every time on the computer
  • Redesigned DPI-shift button: This wired optical gaming mouse features a reversible and removable DPI-shift button for precise customisation depending on your grip and preference
  • Redesigned hyperfast scroll wheel: Switch between hyper-fast free spin and precise ratcheting mode, and tilt left and right for two additional personalisable controls

There is no cited Bluetooth mode. Laptop, tablet and console users should confirm that their device accepts the USB receiver and budget for a USB-A adapter or dock where necessary. LIGHTSPEED and Bluetooth are not interchangeable, and console support should be checked for the exact console, connection method and game.

Battery, charging and POWERPLAY

Logitech lists up to 500 hours in high-performance mode or up to 18 months in low-endurance mode. These are maximum claims affected by RGB, performance settings, usage and firmware. “500 hours” should not be read as a guaranteed runtime with lighting and maximum-performance behavior enabled.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Charging uses USB-C. The integrated lithium-polymer battery is listed as not user-accessible, so eventual battery degradation is a long-term ownership consideration. The mouse is compatible with Logitech POWERPLAY, which can keep it charging while in use, but the charging mat is a separate purchase and adds cost, desk space and a commitment to Logitech’s pad system. Details are in Logitech’s specifications.

RGB and G HUB

Eight-zone LIGHTSYNC RGB provides startup, power-down and active-play effects. It is visible mainly as decoration and can reduce runtime, so it does not improve tracking or latency. G HUB controls lighting, DPI stages, remaps, macros, application profiles and other settings, and Logitech lists up to five onboard memory profiles.

Onboard memory is useful when moving between computers, but advanced assignments and lighting behavior may not match the full G HUB experience without the software running. Logitech’s release-era compatibility statement lists Windows 10 or later, macOS 10.14 or later, a USB port and internet access for optional software; future operating-system support should be verified rather than assumed.

How it compares with other G502 models

Model What you gain or lose Observed U.S. price signal

Prices are U.S. observations, not permanent list prices. Check Logitech’s shop and the Best Buy listing immediately before buying. The Plus is worth extra money over the X LIGHTSPEED mainly when RGB matters or the promotion makes the gap small.

Who should buy the G502 X Plus?

  • G502 loyalists: a lighter, USB-C-equipped update with new switches, though the wheel feel may not win you over.
  • MMO, strategy and simulation players: the extensive controls and remapping are major advantages.
  • Productivity-heavy users: free-spin scrolling and wheel tilt are genuinely useful for long documents and timelines.
  • RGB enthusiasts: the Plus adds eight-zone LIGHTSYNC, but only cosmetic value.
  • Competitive FPS players: buy only if you actively prefer a substantial 106 g mouse.
  • Laptop and mobile users: avoid if Bluetooth is essential or carrying a USB receiver is inconvenient.
  • Budget buyers: consider the wired G502 X, G502 HERO or a discounted X LIGHTSPEED.

Scroll and connection troubleshooting

Do not assume every wheel problem is a software fault. Work through the likely causes:

  1. Check that the wheel moves freely and is not blocked by debris or physical damage.
  2. Press the mode button and test both ratchet and free-spin behavior.
  3. Review wheel assignments, profiles and firmware in G HUB.
  4. Move the receiver close to the mouse with the included extension adapter if wireless input is intermittent.
  5. If reversed scrolling, missed inputs or a non-working mode switch persist across profiles and another computer, contact the retailer or Logitech for warranty support. A retailer-hosted FAQ is available at this troubleshooting document.

Final verdict

The G502 X Plus is a feature-rich, comfortable wireless mouse whose best qualities are its control count, strong HERO sensor, dependable LIGHTSPEED platform and exceptional scrolling flexibility. The same design is a poor fit if you need Bluetooth, left-handed ergonomics, a replaceable battery or an ultralight esports mouse. Its redesigned wheel deserves a hands-on check, especially for owners who loved the older metal G502 wheel.

At a meaningful discount, it is a strong buy for right-handed players and productive desk users who want one mouse for games and work. At full premium pricing, compare the RGB-free G502 X LIGHTSPEED first.
