GameSir’s F8 Snowgon Phone-Cooling Grip Isn’t New—and It’s Not a Controller

GameSir’s F8 Snowgon pairs a phone grip with a thermoelectric cooler. Here’s what it does, its fit and power limits, and why it isn’t a conventional controller.

GameSir’s F8 Snowgon, also called the F8 Pro Snowgon, combines a telescoping phone grip with an actively cooled plate. It can help manage heat during long gaming sessions, but it is a 2021-era accessory—not a newly launched 2026 product—and its optional touchscreen joystick does not make it a conventional game controller.

What the GameSir F8 Snowgon does

The F8 Snowgon is a phone-cooling grip: it holds a phone at the sides while a cooling surface presses against its back. GameSir’s announcement describes semiconductor refrigeration, aluminum cooling hardware, a conductive silicone pad, a seven-blade fan and RGB lighting. GameSir says cooling begins in one second; that is a startup claim, not a guarantee that the whole phone reaches a particular temperature in that time. GameSir’s announcement and support page use the F8 Snowgon name, while reviews commonly call it the F8 Pro Snowgon.

It is not a full mobile controller. The optional joystick attachment sits on the touchscreen and is intended to operate a game’s virtual stick. The grip has no conventional dual analog sticks, face buttons, D-pad or shoulder triggers, so it cannot stand in for a gamepad in games that expect those controls. Reviews found the joystick’s usefulness limited by its touchscreen interaction and positioning. iMore’s review and Android Central’s review discuss those limitations.

Is it actually new?

No new 2026 launch is established by the available official pages. Independent reviews appeared in August and September 2021, including Android Central’s review published September 14, 2021, and iMore’s review updated September 20, 2021. The original announcement is also on GameSir’s site, but an older product or support page being visible now does not confirm a refreshed model, current regional stock or a new launch. GameSir’s announcement, Android Central and iMore provide the dated context.

Compatible with Android phones, iPhones, Switch, iPads, laptops, and more. Package Includes: Cooler x1, USB-C to USB-C cable x1, user manual x1, magnetic ring plate x1.

How well does the cooler work?

The thermoelectric plate draws heat away from the phone’s rear while the fan helps dissipate it. Reviews found the cooling convincing in use, but the result depends on the phone, contact area, ambient conditions and case. Android Central noted that a glass back transfers heat more readily than some plastic backs; a case can fit mechanically yet still insulate the phone from the plate. GameSir’s guidance for another cooling product similarly notes that removing a case may be necessary for best cooling, though that advice is not an F8-specific compatibility guarantee. Android Central’s review and GameSir’s X3 cooling FAQ explain these considerations.

Lower exterior temperature is not the same as guaranteed higher frame rates. Cooling may delay thermal throttling if heat is the reason a phone is slowing down, and it may make a hot handset more comfortable to hold. It cannot fix low performance caused by game optimization, battery condition or other hardware limits, and it does not guarantee better battery life or lower latency. The benefit is most plausible during sustained, demanding play—such as high-refresh-rate games, emulation or streaming while charging—rather than short or light sessions.

  • Magnetic & Clip-On:The product packaging includes a magnetic strip to help you attach the phone cooler to the back of your phone; it can be used even with non-magnetic phones. It also comes with a clip for attaching it to the back of your phone—installation is simple and requires no tools.

  • Sleek, Stylish Design & Silent Operation:The product is lightweight, so it won’t weigh down your hands and can be used normally. Its design features LED lamp effect to create a unique ambiance. The fan operates at a low decibel level and does not produce loud noise.

There is also a moisture caveat. A plate colder than humid surrounding air can collect condensation; Thumb Culture reported condensation during its review. That is a reported test observation, not proof of a universal defect. Avoid relying on the accessory in humid conditions if moisture forms, and check the phone-contact area before storing the device. Thumb Culture’s review describes the observation.

Phone fit and compatibility

Android Central reports that the telescoping grip accommodates phones up to about 173 mm (6.8 inches) tall and cites the Galaxy S21 Ultra and iPhone 12 Pro Max as examples that fit. That measurement is a physical-fit reference, not a promise that every phone of that height will align properly with the cooling plate. Reviews describe use with Android and iPhone models because cooling is a physical function rather than an app-dependent controller connection; newer models still need an individual fit check. Android Central’s review and GameSir’s support page are the relevant references.

Black Shark FunCooler 5 Magnetic Cell Phone Cooler for Gaming, Portable Mobile Phone Cooling Fan with RGB Light, Cellphone Radiator for iPhone Magnetic Series/Android/Tablet/iPad (Black)
  • 【20W Power Ultra-Fast Cooling】The wired magnetic phone cooler utilizes high-performance Peltier element (TEC) with high heat dissipation capacity, and its heat dissipation ability lowers the temperature of the main unit by about 95℉. NOTE: Connection to power supply required for use. Power must exceed 20W for optimal performance. Data cable not included in packag.
  • 【Simple Control】The cell phone cooling fan has a built-in Type-C interface, just connect the power cord and it is ready to use. Switch between overclocking mode and silent mode with the click of a button. 12N strong magnetic force holds the phone firmly in place and prevents it from falling off.
  • 【Compact and lightweight design】The Magnetic cell phone cooler weighs only 0.18 lb in a small size, leaving more space for hand operation and being without overheavy burden.
  • 【Quiet Operation】This smartphone cooler adopts noise reduction design, and the operating noise in silent mode is only 30db, allowing you to play games or watch videos comfortably.
  • 【Vertical Air Duct Design】The vertical air duct design of FunCooler 5 smartphone cooling fan focuses on the user's actual experience and innovative ergonomic design, which provides a comfortable grip and does not dissipate heat to the hand.
  • Check the phone’s height and thickness, plus whether its camera bump prevents the cooling pad from sitting flat.
  • Check whether a case fits inside the grip, then consider that a thick case may reduce heat transfer even if it fits.
  • Look at the rear material and the location of the phone’s hot area; screen size alone does not determine cooling contact.
  • Make sure the grip does not obstruct side buttons or make the charging port inaccessible, and consider how a cable will route while attached.

The main practical catch: it needs external power

The F8 Pro Snowgon has no built-in battery, according to Android Central and iMore, so the cooler must stay connected to a USB power source. That means using it near a wall charger or adding a power bank for mobile play, with a cable to manage while holding the phone. A power bank adds weight and bulk, and powering the cooler can offset some of any phone-battery savings from running at a lower temperature. iMore also criticized how awkward phone charging could be with the Snowgon attached. Android Central and iMore cover the power and charging trade-offs.

Who should consider it—and who should skip it?

It may suit

  • Touchscreen-first players whose phone becomes uncomfortably hot or throttles during sustained gaming.
  • People who play at a desk, on a couch or near a dependable power source and want a grip as well as active cooling.
  • Owners whose phone has a suitable rear contact area and whose sessions are demanding enough for heat to be a real constraint.

It is a poor fit for

  • Players who want console-style controls, since the touchscreen joystick is not a substitute for a real gamepad.
  • Anyone prioritizing lightweight, cable-free play or frequent use away from power.
  • Owners of phones that already manage heat well, or people whose performance problem is unrelated to thermal throttling.
  • Users whose case, camera layout or rear surface prevents reliable contact, or who play in hot, humid conditions where condensation is a concern.

Noise, fan vibration, added bulk, RGB lighting and the cable all work against the idea of a simple handheld grip. Reviews were more favorable about cooling than the overall grip and joystick experience. Android Central, iMore and Thumb Culture describe those trade-offs.

Alternatives if you need physical controls

If you want cooling and actual gamepad inputs, GameSir’s X3 Pro is a different category of accessory: GameSir lists Android compatibility, Hall Effect sticks, a 900 mm² cooling area, maximum efficient cooling power of 12 W and fit for phones measuring 110–180 mm. Its product page showed a price of $79.99 when the supplied commercial information was collected; that is a dated price signal, not a guarantee of today’s price or availability. GameSir X3 Pro has the current product details.

For an existing X5 controller owner, GameSir’s FX5 is a dedicated cooler for the X5 series, not a universal phone grip. GameSir describes three cooling modes, vertical airflow and wired or wireless power options; its page showed $39.99 in the supplied commercial information, which should not be read as a verified current price. GameSir FX5 Cooler has the product details.

NEVEIKA Plug-in Phone Cooler, Cellphone Radiator with Dual Semi-Conductor Cooling Chip, Mobile Phones with a Width of 6 to 7.5cm for Tiktok Live Streaming, Outdoor Vlog, Mobile Gaming.
  • Linear damping telescopic clip: easy to adjust, pay attention! Suitable for all types of mobile phones with a width of "6 to 7.5 centimeters". NEVEIKIA mobile phone cooling can cool down when connected to a power source.(Attention: It is best to remove the phone case when using it for a better experience!)
  • Quick cooling: Dual engine, cooling principle is the same as a refrigerator, not ordinary fan cooling. It can cool your phone in "3 to 5 seconds", avoiding overheating and ensuring a stable live streaming or gaming experience.
  • Dual power supply design: supports powering the radiator through a mobile phone, and can also be connected to an external power source for use; When connected to an external power source, it can provide stable power to both the radiator and the phone, avoiding interruption of heat dissipation due to insufficient power during long-term use and ensuring continuous and stable heat dissipation performance.
  • Silent engine cooling: The fan with dual silent design can effectively dissipate air from all directions, providing stronger cooling effect without interfering with your games or Vlog programs.
  • Expanded cooling area: Approximately 2.82x1.29 inches of extreme thermal conductivity cooling area, covering the CPU and battery module, protecting your phone from blackening or sudden shutdown.

A separate cooler and a conventional controller offer more flexibility in placement and controls, but add components and may complicate fit around a case or camera bump. If heat is not a recurring problem, a normal controller—or simply lowering graphics or frame-rate settings and avoiding direct sun—may be the more useful change.
