Choose a passing scheme you can read comfortably, because EA says gameplay difficulty cannot be changed after play begins. The game launched worldwide on July 19, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and covers all 134 FBS schools.
Set up your first game for learning
Choose difficulty before kickoff
EA lists the settings from easiest to hardest as Freshman, Varsity, All-American and Heisman. Select the level before starting gameplay: EA says difficulty cannot be changed once gameplay is underway. Freshman gives a new player the most forgiving starting point; move up only after you can run plays, defend basic concepts and manage the clock without relying on constant prompts.
Use the built-in practice aids
Turn On-Field Trainer on, or choose Dynamic if you want contextual or adaptive hints. From the Main Hub, Mini-Games and Open Practice let you learn controls without risking a Dynasty season or a Road to Glory performance. EA’s tutorials hub also provides gameplay, Dynasty, recruiting and Road to Glory guidance.
Adjust skill sliders only when necessary
Player and CPU skill sliders are available if the default settings are too punishing or too easy. Change one category at a time so you know what made the game feel different, rather than using sliders to mask controls you have not yet practiced.

Pick passing and kicking controls that match your timing
Try the four passing types
EA provides Placement, Placement & Accuracy, Classic Passing and Revamped Passing. They differ in how much timing and accuracy input they demand. Classic is the least elaborate starting point for players who want a familiar throw input; the placement-based options give more control but require you to read the meter and release timing. Test each in Open Practice instead of assuming one is universally best—EA does not designate a single passing type as the beginner choice.
Review kicking inputs before a close game
The game includes two kicking input schemes. Practice field goals and punts before your first competitive match so a late-game kick is not the first time you see the meter or timing.

Read the control reference
EA’s accessibility information for the US-English PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions says controls cannot be remapped. Review the control reference and make sure your controller layout is comfortable before starting a long mode. If an option appears differently after an update, follow the current in-game menu.
Choose a mode based on the role you want to play
| Your preference | Best starting point | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Run a program, staff and recruiting operation | Dynasty | Create a coaching role, hire staff, recruit players and build a program. |
| Follow one created player’s college career | Road to Glory | Manage one student-athlete’s priorities, progression, games and Coach Trust. |
| Learn core controls first | Practice or Play Now | Use Mini-Games and Open Practice before a consequential save. |
What to know before starting Dynasty
Understand the coaching roles
Dynasty lets you select Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator or Defensive Coordinator. You build a coaching staff, recruit and make decisions on and off the field; EA says those activities award XP for career and reputation progress.

Plan around player condition
Wear and Tear applies to all 22 players on the field. EA says damage to a body part can reduce related abilities and increase injury risk, with recovery possible when a player is off the field, during timeouts, at halftime and between weeks. Rotate or rest players when your situation allows, especially after a heavy workload. EA design director Scott O’Gallagher illustrated the intended effect this way: “If your quarterback has thrown the ball 40+ times in a game and has taken some shots, don’t expect him to be at 100% the following week in Dynasty or Road To Glory.” That is EA’s design explanation, not an independently measured performance guarantee.
Check online requirements for Online Dynasty
EA’s current support guidance recommends at least 2 Mbps download and 0.5 Mbps upload for online Dynasty. Those figures are EA’s connection recommendations, not a promise that every network will deliver identical latency or stability. EA announced Online Dynasty support for up to 32 players.

What to know before starting Road to Glory
Build a role you can actually control
Road to Glory follows one created student-athlete. EA lists quarterback, halfback, wide receiver, middle linebacker and cornerback as selectable positions. Star rating affects starting skill points; position, archetype, mental abilities and school shape the setup. A quarterback or receiver puts more pressure on route and passing reads, while a linebacker or cornerback emphasizes defensive positioning, so choose the role whose controls you practiced.
Spend weekly energy deliberately
Each week, distribute energy among Academics, Leadership, Health, Training and Brand. These priorities compete with one another, so do not treat every category as equally urgent every week. EA says a 2.0 GPA is required to stay on the field; protect academics when your grade is approaching that threshold.
Use Coach Trust to earn a larger role
Coach Trust contributes to performance and can unlock audibles, additional plays, a better depth-chart position and position battles. Early choices that build trust can therefore matter more than chasing every optional benefit at once.
A practical first-session checklist
- Select Freshman before kickoff.
- Enable On-Field Trainer or Dynamic prompts.
- Run Mini-Games and Open Practice from the Main Hub.
- Try the passing schemes and both kicking inputs until one feels readable.
- Play a low-stakes game before beginning a long Dynasty or Road to Glory save.
- In Dynasty, monitor Wear and Tear and use available rest opportunities.
- In Road to Glory, keep GPA at or above 2.0 and allocate weekly energy with your immediate role in mind.
