For a temporary compatibility test, exit vorpX, stop the vorpX service in Windows Services, and set its startup type to Disabled. For permanent removal, use Windows’ normal vorpX uninstaller, reboot, and then check the documented vorpX folders only if you need a clean reinstall. These actions are different: closing the app does not disable its service, and uninstalling vorpX does not uninstall SteamVR, Meta Quest Link, Windows Mixed Reality, or another headset runtime.
vorpX describes itself as a Windows 3D driver that converts supported PC games for headset output, rather than necessarily a kernel-level hardware driver. Its published requirements cover Windows 10 and 11 with common SteamVR/OpenXR-compatible headsets (vorpx.com/downloads).
Choose the least destructive option

Before changing anything
- Close games and save any work.
- Exit vorpX and vorpConfig from the notification area and Task Manager if necessary.
- Close SteamVR, Meta Quest Link/Oculus software, Virtual Desktop, OpenXR tools, and other headset software.
- Export or copy custom vorpX profiles that you want to keep. Official support recommends backing up profiles before deleting the profile-data folder (vorpx.com support).
- Record which headset runtime your system normally uses.
- Create a restore point or back up configuration folders before a full cleanup.
Do not delete files while the service or vorpX processes are still running. Registry cleaners and generic “force delete” utilities are unnecessary for the supported procedure.
Method 1: Exit vorpX for one session
- Right-click the vorpX icon in the Windows notification area.
- Choose the exit or close command.
- Do not launch vorpX again while testing the headset or game.
This stops the control application for the current session, but it does not change Windows startup behavior, remove the service, or uninstall any files.

Method 2: Disable the vorpX service temporarily
Use this method when you want Windows to start without the vorpX background service while preserving the installation. The exact display name can vary by vorpX release or Windows build.
- Press the Windows key, type Services, and open the Services application.
- Find vorpX service (or the corresponding vorpX-named entry) and double-click it.
- Click Stop.
- Set Startup type to Disabled.
- Click Apply, then OK.
- Restart Windows and test the headset without launching vorpX.
Older official support cases describe the service as handling special virtual-monitor behavior and report no effect on core vorpX functionality in those cases (vorpx.com support). A later release discussion describes the control application communicating with a background service for virtual-display and desktop-viewer functions (vorpx.com support). Its role can therefore change between releases: treat disabling it as a reversible diagnostic, not a guaranteed permanent configuration.
Disabling the service does not remove vorpX files, profiles, shortcuts, or every application component. It also will not isolate a problem that occurs only when the vorpX application itself is launched unless you keep that application closed.

Method 3: Uninstall vorpX completely
- Exit vorpX and all related processes.
- On Windows 11, open Settings → Apps → Installed apps. On Windows 10, open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
- Find vorpX, open its menu, and choose Uninstall.
- Follow the vorpX uninstaller.
- If it asks whether to remove registration information, retain it unless you intentionally want to erase the license data.
- Restart Windows.
- After the restart, confirm that the vorpX service is absent or no longer running.
Official support indicates that a normal reinstall generally does not require a new license key; a new request code caused by major hardware changes or a Windows reinstall can be a separate activation issue (vorpx.com support).

Remove leftovers for a clean reinstall
Only do this after uninstalling, rebooting, and backing up profiles. The uninstaller normally removes the main installation, but settings, profile databases, backups, or temporary data can remain.

C:ProgramData is hidden by default; enable hidden items in File Explorer or enter the path directly. Official support specifically recommends removing C:ProgramDataAnimation LabsvorpX for some damaged-installation repairs (vorpx.com support) and lists the possible leftover locations after uninstall (vorpx.com support).
Do not delete the entire C:ProgramDataAnimation Labs directory if other Animation Labs software may be installed, your entire Documents folder, headset-runtime folders, or registry keys from an internet cleanup guide. vorpX support describes its settings and profile database as file-based rather than requiring manual registry cleanup.

Verify that vorpX is gone
- vorpX no longer appears in Installed apps or Apps & features.
- The vorpX service is absent from Services or is not running.
- Task Manager shows no
vorpX,vorpConfig, or similarly named process. - The main vorpX installation directory is gone if you performed a clean cleanup.
- Your normal headset runtime starts without vorpX launching.
- A previously affected game no longer shows the vorpX overlay or transformation.
- SteamVR/OpenXR behavior has been tested independently.
Do not confuse vorpX removal with SteamVR driver management
SteamVR/OpenVR has its own driver-registration system, managed through Valve’s vrpathreg.exe documentation (Local Driver Registration; Driver Documentation). There is no established basis here for running that utility against guessed vorpX paths. Use it only when you have separately confirmed a specific third-party OpenVR driver registration problem.

If the normal uninstall fails
- Reboot Windows.
- Close vorpX, SteamVR, and headset software.
- Stop or disable the vorpX service using the Services procedure above.
- Retry the normal uninstaller.
- Reboot again.
- Remove only the documented vorpX folders, if a clean reset is required.
- Reinstall only when repair is the goal.
- Contact official vorpX support if activation, the uninstaller, or the service remains broken.
If Windows reports that a file is in use, exit vorpX from the tray, end remaining vorpX processes in Task Manager, stop the service, restart Windows, and retry. A force-delete tool can remove a file without removing its service registration or configuration.

Removal is a diagnostic step, not proof that vorpX caused the failure. Independent conflicts can involve antivirus or endpoint security, GPU utilities and overlays, capture or streaming software, chat overlays, pointer-modification tools, an incorrect SteamVR/OpenXR runtime, a damaged headset runtime, GPU drivers, display-spanning settings, or another virtual-monitor application. vorpX’s FAQ lists several overlay and hooking conflicts (vorpx.com support FAQ).
For SteamVR-specific path problems, follow Valve’s troubleshooting guidance, including its instructions concerning the user OpenVR directory and openvr.vrpath (Steam Support). These are SteamVR repairs, not additional vorpX-uninstall steps.

Reinstall without losing profiles or registration
- Back up custom profiles from the vorpX configuration app before deleting data.
- Preserve registration information when the uninstaller offers that choice.
- Uninstall and reboot.
- Delete only the documented vorpX leftovers if stale configuration is suspected.
- Install the current version and restore profiles after confirming the runtime works.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does disabling the vorpX service uninstall vorpX?
No. It stops the background service and prevents it from starting with Windows, but the application, profiles, license data, and other files remain installed.
Do I need to uninstall SteamVR when removing vorpX?
No. SteamVR and headset runtimes are separate components. Remove them only for a separate runtime-management reason.
Will reinstalling vorpX require a new license key?
