What the Stella Montis Archives Key does
The in-game description reads: “Unlocks a door in the Archives in Stella Montis.” It refers to the red-lit, garage-style Storage Room at the far end of the Cultural Archives, not to the Medical Storage or Assembly Admin areas.
The key is an Epic scavenging item. ARC Raiders Wiki (2026) lists its weight as 0.25 and its sale value as 100 Credits. Its source is random scavenging and container loot, so there is no fixed chest, quest reward, or guaranteed map spawn to farm.
Where is the Archives door?
Look for the top-floor east-side Storage Room at the far northeastern edge of the Cultural Archives. “East,” “northeast,” and “far end” describe the same practical destination; the side from which you enter changes the exact approach. The locked door has red indicator lights and should identify the Archives or Storage Room when you get its interaction prompt.

Route from Seed Vault
- Start near Seed Vault. Move toward the vertical access point and watch for ARC patrols in the approach corridor.
- Climb the pipes. Use the pipes to reach the upper level.
- Take the door straight ahead. This puts you onto the corridor leading toward the Archives.
- Follow the corridor. The Cultural Archives room will be on your right as you continue toward the far end.
- Reach the red-lit Storage Room. Confirm the prompt names the Archives/Storage Room, then unlock it with the key.
Route from Communications
- Enter the vent tunnel from Communications. Use the vent route to reach the hallway serving the Archives wing.
- Follow the hallway past the Cultural Archives signage. Keep moving toward the archive-floor access rather than turning into unrelated Stella Montis rooms.
- Reposition vertically. Descend or move to the archive floor by the staircase or zipline, depending on the access point available in your run.
- Locate the red-lit door. At the far east or northeast end, interact only when the prompt identifies the Archives Storage Room.
Which route should you take?

Choose the route closest to your current entry point. Neither description establishes a universally safer path; enemy positions can make either approach dangerous.
Opening the room safely
ARC enemies can occupy the corridor, and a Shredder may be present. Scout before committing to the door, use cover, and avoid starting the unlock interaction while a hostile is immediately on top of you. If the route is occupied, clear the threat or wait for an opening rather than spending the key under pressure.
When the door opens, the key is consumed. The room is a container-focused loot stop: expect multiple containers and a chance at useful loot, not a guaranteed named item or a quest-completion screen.

Use it when the Archives are already on your route and you can control the approach. Sell it when carrying the key is adding risk, you need guaranteed Credits, or reaching Stella Montis would require a dangerous detour. The 100-Credit figure is a listed item value, not a promise that the room would have paid that amount or more.

Common mistakes
- Searching for a guaranteed key chest: the Archives Key is a random scavenging/container drop.
- Stopping on the wrong floor: the target is the top-floor Storage Room at the east or northeast end of the Cultural Archives.
- Following a similarly named key: Medical Storage and Assembly Admin keys belong to different doors.
- Expecting a quest reward: opening the room gives access to containers; it is not described as a quest-completion screen.
- Unlocking during a patrol: a Shredder or other ARC unit can punish a stationary interaction, so check the corridor first.
