Arkveld is the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Wilds and a central mystery driving the game’s story. The Research Commission calls it the “White Wraith,” while official descriptions identify it as a monster from a long-extinct species with uniquely shaped, chain-like wing appendages. Its ecology remains deliberately unresolved in the official profile.
What is Arkveld?
Arkveld is the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Wilds. It is not simply a major hunt placed late in the campaign: the monster’s existence, disappearance and connection to the Forbidden Lands help motivate the game’s central investigation.

Official material describes Arkveld as belonging to a species long thought extinct. The same descriptions emphasize that its ecology is still shrouded in mystery, so details beyond what the game and its official materials establish should not be treated as confirmed canon.
Why Arkveld matters to the story
Nata’s rescue starts the investigation
The story’s investigation follows the rescue of Nata near the Forbidden Lands. His cryptic words become an important clue, prompting the formation of the Forbidden Lands Research Commission and its effort to understand what happened there.

Arkveld’s appearance and official description
The “White Wraith”
“White Wraith” is the name used for Arkveld by the Research Commission in Capcom’s official announcement. The name reflects the monster’s elusive, ominous role rather than establishing a separate species or form.
Chain-like wings
Arkveld bears uniquely shaped, chain-like wings. “Chain-like” describes the appearance of the appendages; official wording does not establish that they are literal manufactured chains.
