Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Yes—the Epic Games Store really did give away free PC games during its 2025 holiday promotion. It was a time-limited event, however, not a current offer: the Holiday Sale ran from December 11, 2025, through January 8, 2026, and the holiday giveaway ended with it. Games claimed during their offer window were added permanently to the claimant’s Epic library.
What the promotion was
Epic’s Holiday Sale combined discounts of up to 75% with a seasonal free-game campaign. The regular Epic Games Store program normally refreshes one free game every Thursday for a seven-day claim period; the holiday campaign temporarily switched to mystery games appearing roughly daily during part of the sale. See the official Free Games page for Epic’s normal program.
As of August 18, 2026, all of the 2025–26 holiday offers have expired. The original headline was accurate during the event, but it should now be read as a historical recap rather than an active deal alert.
When the holiday giveaways ran
- Holiday Sale: December 11, 2025, through January 8, 2026, according to Epic’s Holiday Sale buyer’s guide.
- Opening giveaway: Hogwarts Legacy was available until December 18, 2025.
- Daily phase: The mystery-game rotation began around December 18 and generally changed at approximately 11 a.m. Eastern (8 a.m. Pacific) in the United States.
- Claim window: Most daily offers lasted roughly 24 hours, ending at the next scheduled refresh. Regional storefront countdowns were the final authority; PCWorld also reported a conflicting 5 p.m. sale-page time, likely reflecting localization or a different timer.
The opening and closing offers did not necessarily follow the same one-day pattern, so “24 hours” describes the typical daily rotation rather than every holiday listing.

Notable games that were offered
There is no single permanent Epic page documenting every daily PC giveaway from the event. The following examples are confirmed by Epic pages or retrospective reporting and should not be treated as a complete official schedule:
| Game or collection | What was reported | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Hogwarts Legacy | Opening holiday giveaway, free until December 18, 2025 | Epic and PC Gamer |
| Sorry We’re Closed | Reported as the active giveaway on December 22, 2025 | PCWorld |
| Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night | Short-window holiday freebie | GamesRadar |
| Trine Classic Collection | Reported as the December 30 giveaway; the collection contains four games | PC Gamer |
| Total War: Three Kingdoms | Listed in retrospective coverage as the January 2–8, 2026 offer | Tech ARP |
Leaked schedules circulated during the promotion, but Epic did not publish a complete advance list in the contemporary coverage. A title was confirmed only when it appeared on Epic’s store.

How claiming worked
- Open the Epic Games Store Free Games page or the equivalent page in the Epic Games Launcher.
- Sign in to the Epic account that should own the game.
- Select the active free title and choose Get (or the equivalent claim button).
- Complete checkout at the zero-dollar price.
- Check the library or order history to confirm that the transaction completed.
- Download immediately or install later through the Epic Games Launcher.
Epic’s support documentation says a game claimed through its free-game program remains in the account permanently even if it is not downloaded that day. That establishes the normal ownership model; individual holiday listings still had to be claimed before their own offer expired. Epic’s support page also lists an Epic account and two-factor authentication for the weekly free-game program, so requirements can vary by promotion and account.
What “free” meant
- The price was reduced to zero only during the claim window.
- It was not a trial or subscription rental: a completed claim generally retained the PC license in the Epic account.
- The license was for the Epic Games Store, not a Steam key or console entitlement.
- Claiming did not guarantee a DRM-free build, Steam access, or universal offline play. The Epic launcher, a publisher launcher, online checks, updates, or other requirements could still apply to a particular game.
- Claiming cost nothing, but downloading and playing still required compatible Windows hardware, storage, and any game-specific services.
If you missed a day
Once a daily offer expired, it normally returned to its regular price or another promotion. Epic gave no general guarantee that a missed title would be repeated, and later giveaways did not restore earlier ones. Check the official store countdown rather than social-media posts or leaked calendars.

The page shows full price
- Verify that the daily window has not ended and that you are viewing the correct regional storefront.
- Refresh the page or restart the launcher.
- Make sure you are looking at the base game rather than downloadable content or a bundle.
- Confirm that you are signed into the intended Epic account.
The game was claimed but is missing
- Search the Epic Games Launcher library by the exact title.
- Check that the zero-dollar checkout completed and review transaction history or the order confirmation.
- Confirm that the item was a PC game license, not an in-game entitlement.
How this differed from Epic’s normal free-game program
The daily holiday schedule was a seasonal exception tied to the 2025 Holiday Sale. Epic’s ordinary offer is a weekly Thursday refresh with a seven-day claim period, as described in its free-games support article. The end-of-year Holiday Sale should also not be confused with Epic’s separate Winter Sale promotion.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Bottom line for readers now
The promotion was genuine and worthwhile for anyone who claimed its games on time, including high-profile releases such as Hogwarts Legacy. It is over now. If you want Epic giveaways in 2026, use the official Free Games page and watch its current weekly countdown; historical holiday lists cannot revive an expired offer.
