It is not automatically proof of a permanent, IP, or hardware ban. Start by checking Roblox Status, restarting, testing another network, and then performing a clean reinstall if necessary.
What Error Code 268 means
The usual message is “You have been kicked due to unexpected client behavior.” Roblox says the error can result from network problems or another program overriding Roblox permissions. The official guidance does not say that every 268 is an exploit detection or moderation action. See Roblox’s Error 268 support article.
Community reports sometimes describe kicks that begin after an update or several minutes in an experience, but those reports are anecdotal and do not establish a universal cause.
Diagnose the scope before changing anything
Check whether Roblox is having an incident
- Open the official Roblox Status page.
- Check Player, Games, Game Join, Website, and the platform you use.
- If an incident is active, wait for mitigation rather than repeatedly reinstalling the client.
Compare experiences, devices, and networks

1. Restart Roblox and your device
- Close Roblox, its launcher, browser tabs, and any visible Roblox background process.
- Restart the computer, phone, tablet, or Chromebook.
- Join the same experience again.
Roblox recommends restarting before reinstalling in its reinstallation guidance.

2. Test another internet connection
Try a phone hotspot, another trusted Wi-Fi network, a wired connection, or a different router. If Roblox works there, focus on the original network rather than repeatedly repairing the client. Roblox specifically recommends trying another internet source and contacting your provider if the problem continues.
3. Isolate software conflicts
Temporarily close or remove, one at a time, third-party antivirus suites, VPN clients, overlays, FPS counters, macro tools, system optimizers, packet filters, remote-control tools, and unauthorized Roblox modifications. Restart Roblox after each change. Review antivirus quarantine and allow-list settings first; if you temporarily disable protection for a controlled test, re-enable it immediately. Clean Windows reinstall
Uninstall the client
- On Windows 10 and older supported installations, open Start → Settings → Apps (or Apps & features), select Roblox, and choose Uninstall.
- On Windows 11, search for Control Panel, open Programs → Programs and Features, select Roblox, and choose Uninstall or Uninstall/Change.
- Restart Windows before reinstalling.
Clear leftover Roblox data
Only do this after uninstalling Roblox. The official Error 268 instructions use these commands:

cd AppDataLocal rmdir /s Roblox
When prompted by rmdir, enter y. The command deletes the Roblox folder and its contents in the current user’s local AppData directory. If Windows says the path cannot be found, the folder may already be absent. Restart, then install Roblox from an official source.
Compare the two official Windows apps
Roblox identifies the newer Microsoft Store app as Roblox – Windows (blue icon); the older listing is named Roblox. If the website-installed desktop client fails, try Roblox – Windows from Microsoft Store, or use the official desktop installer if the Store version fails. This is an isolation test, not a guaranteed cure. Details are in Roblox’s Microsoft Store article.
Mac troubleshooting
- Quit Roblox and move the app to Trash (or use Command-Delete).
- Reinstall Roblox from an official source.
- Check Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security for Roblox permissions. Older macOS versions call this System Preferences.
- Test another network.

iPhone and iPad
- Open the app switcher and swipe Roblox away.
- Restart the device.
- Delete Roblox and reinstall it from the App Store.
- Set the device date and time correctly (automatic time is preferable).
- Try another network.
Android
- Force-close Roblox from the recent-apps screen.
- Restart the device.
- Use Settings → Apps → Roblox → Uninstall (wording varies by manufacturer).
- Reinstall Roblox from Google Play.
- Verify date and time, then test another network.
Amazon Fire tablets
- Open Settings → Apps & Games → Manage All Applications → Roblox and choose Force Stop.
- Restart the tablet.
- Uninstall Roblox and reinstall it from the Amazon Appstore.
- Check date and time and test another network.
Roblox’s support article names Fire 7 (9th generation and later), Fire HD 8 (8th generation and later), Fire HD 10 (9th generation and later), and Fire Max 11 (13th generation and later) as examples; availability and support can change.
ChromeOS
- Update ChromeOS.
- End Roblox through ChromeOS Task Manager.
- Restart the Chromebook.
- Remove Roblox and reinstall it through Google Play.
- Correct the date and time and test another network.
Windows support currently covers 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11; Roblox lists macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later and does not support Linux. Check the current hardware and operating-system requirements.
If Error 268 remains
- Repeat the test on a second network and, if possible, another device.
- Record whether every experience is affected, how long you can play before the kick, and which client was used.
- Check Roblox Status again.
- Contact Roblox Support with your username, device and operating system, exact message and code, approximate times, network tests, client versions, reinstall steps, and screenshots or video if requested.
What not to do
- Do not buy or run “HWID unban” tools, spoofers, executors, injectors, or unofficial Roblox clients.
- Do not use random registry cleaners or batch files, or reset Windows as a first-line fix.
- Do not permanently disable antivirus or firewall protection.
- Do not assume a VPN, DNS flush, or
ipconfigcommand is an official or guaranteed Error 268 solution. A VPN can be used only as a controlled network comparison and may introduce new conflicts.
Error 268 is different from other codes such as 267 (experience kick), 277 (lost connection), 279/ID 17 (joining failure), 280 (out-of-date Roblox), and 403 (access denied). Roblox’s error-code index lists those distinctions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Roblox Error 268 a ban?
Not by itself. Roblox describes it as a kick for unexpected client behavior associated generally with connection problems or application conflicts. The code alone does not establish a permanent, IP, or hardware ban.
Can a VPN fix Error 268?
A different connection, including a reputable VPN, may reveal a routing problem, but Roblox does not present VPN use as a guaranteed fix. Compare it with a phone hotspot or another trusted network.
Will reinstalling Roblox delete my account?
No. Uninstalling the app and deleting local Roblox files affects the device installation, not your Roblox account.

Why does the kick happen after five minutes?
Some players report fixed-time kicks, but that pattern has no confirmed universal cause. Record the timing and provide it to Roblox Support.
Does flushing DNS fix Error 268?
It is not listed as the core official Error 268 remedy. Use Roblox’s status, restart, alternate-network, conflict-isolation, and reinstall sequence first.
What is the difference between Roblox and Roblox – Windows?
They are two official Windows distribution channels. Roblox calls the newer Microsoft Store listing “Roblox – Windows” and the older listing “Roblox.” Testing both can isolate an installation-specific problem.
What if Error 268 occurs in only one game?
