Roblox FPS Unlocker (RFU) v4.4.0 is genuine, but it is a historical build for the July 28, 2021 Roblox client—not the version most players should install now. Download it only from the original axstin/rbxfpsunlocker Releases page. If it shows “Unable to find TaskScheduler,” upgrade to a later official release first; the message normally concerns Roblox’s internal engine scheduler, not the Windows Task Scheduler service.
What Roblox FPS Unlocker v4.4.0 is
Roblox FPS Unlocker is the open-source Windows utility commonly called RFU, maintained in the axstin/rbxfpsunlocker project. The v4.4.0 release is dated July 29 and was published for compatibility with Roblox’s July 28, 2021 update.
The release notes list these changes:
- Compatibility updates for the July 28 Roblox client.
- Custom FPS-cap values through the settings file.
- Preset 165-FPS and 360-FPS choices.
- New releases moving away from 32-bit builds because of excessive antivirus false positives.
Those options describe what the 2021 utility could request; they do not guarantee that a current Roblox client will accept 165 or 360 FPS. Your display refresh rate, graphics hardware, drivers, Roblox client behavior and the experience itself can impose lower limits.
Should you still use v4.4.0?
Usually, no. The official release history contains later 4.4.x builds. In particular, v4.4.1 addressed compatibility with newer 64-bit Roblox Studio versions, v4.4.2 fixed the “Unable to find TaskScheduler” popup, and v4.4.3 addressed an edge case involving Roblox’s security-daemon process. Use the newest compatible release shown in the original repository rather than assuming v4.4.0 is current. Do not treat a similarly named fork or mirror as an authoritative replacement.

How to download v4.4.0 safely
- Open the original axstin/rbxfpsunlocker Releases page.
- Locate the entry named Roblox FPS Unlocker v4.4.0.
- Download the official 64-bit ZIP asset, identified as
rbxfpsunlocker-x64.zip. The release history moved away from 32-bit packages, so x64 is the appropriate starting point for most modern Windows installations. - Extract the archive to a normal folder such as
C:ToolsRoblox FPS Unlockeror a folder in Documents. The project documents an extracted archive and executable rather than a third-party installer. - Run
rbxfpsunlocker.exe. You can start RFU before or after Roblox, although starting it after the game client is fully open can make process selection easier. - Open RFU’s tray-menu controls and select the desired cap.
- In Roblox, press Shift + F5 and check the displayed FPS statistic.
Safety checks before launching
- Reject “download” pages that wrap the ZIP in an unknown installer or ask you to install a browser extension.
- Scan the archive and executable with Windows Security or another trusted antivirus product.
- RFU’s release notes mention historical antivirus false positives, especially around 32-bit builds. A detection is not proof that an unofficial repack is safe; compare the source and release page before considering an allow-list exception.
- Never permanently disable Windows Security, and do not use a patched executable whose provenance you cannot verify.
What “Unable to find TaskScheduler” actually means
RFU looks inside the active Roblox process for an internal structure used to control frame scheduling. Roblox’s developer documentation describes Task Scheduler as an engine subsystem that coordinates work performed each frame; it is not the Windows Task Scheduler service. The error appears when RFU cannot find the expected variable, signature or process structure.
Common causes include:
- Roblox updated and changed its internal memory layout or protection behavior.
- v4.4.0 is too old for the installed client.
- RFU attached to a launcher, security-daemon process or another Roblox-related process instead of the active game client.
- Roblox Player or Studio is running a newer 64-bit build than the utility supports.
- Security software blocked process access.
- The client was not fully running when RFU attempted to attach.
- An unofficial fork is incompatible with the installed Roblox version.
Because v4.4.2 specifically documents a fix for this popup, repairing or restarting the Windows Task Scheduler service is normally unrelated.
Fix the error in this order
1. Replace v4.4.0 with a later official build
- Exit Roblox completely.
- Open RFU’s tray menu and quit it.
- Download a later release from the original repository.
- Extract it into a new folder instead of mixing files with v4.4.0.
- Launch Roblox Player and wait until the game client is fully open.
- Start RFU, then test with Shift + F5.
2. Confirm which Roblox application and process you are using
Close Roblox Studio if you are trying to unlock Roblox Player, and close duplicate Roblox windows. Do not aim RFU at a launcher that has not yet spawned the actual client. If the problem occurs in Studio, use a release that includes the v4.4.1 64-bit Studio compatibility fix.

3. Restart both applications cleanly
- Exit Roblox and RFU.
- Open Task Manager and end remaining Roblox processes only when you can clearly identify them as leftovers.
- Restart RFU and launch Roblox again.
This clears stale attachments but is not a guaranteed compatibility fix.

4. Check antivirus and Windows Security
Open Windows Security and review Protection history. Restore or allow a file only when it came from the genuine axstin release page and you understand the risk. If Windows blocks the file, obtain a fresh copy from the official release instead of a mirror; do not disable protection globally.
5. Try administrator mode once
Right-click the executable and choose Run as administrator for one test. This can reveal a process-permission problem, but it is not a normal installation requirement. Do not grant permanent administrator privileges if the result does not change; return to the version-compatibility diagnosis.

6. Stop troubleshooting when the current client is unsupported
If a newer official release still cannot locate TaskScheduler, the client may have changed again or Roblox may be blocking the expected access. Wait for a compatibility update or use Roblox’s built-in framerate control instead of downloading DLLs, patches or memory-editing tools.
Player and Studio are different cases
RFU compatibility can differ between Roblox Player and Roblox Studio. The v4.4.1 release specifically mentions newer 64-bit Studio versions, so identify which application produces the message before changing files. A utility that works for Player may still fail in Studio, and vice versa.

Verify the result—and understand the limit
After launching Roblox and RFU, press Shift + F5. Judge success by the FPS value shown by Roblox, not by how smooth the game feels or by your monitor’s refresh-rate label. A 165-FPS or 360-FPS menu entry in v4.4.0 is only a historical cap request. Current Roblox behavior, the display, drivers and the experience may keep the actual value lower.

Higher frame rates can reduce visible judder and improve responsiveness on suitable hardware, but they can also expose crashes, increased latency or timing differences. Bloxstrap’s documentation discusses these trade-offs and notes that around 240 FPS is a practical upper limit for modern Roblox behavior in many situations.

Use Roblox’s own framerate setting first
Roblox has moved toward an in-game framerate limiter. If it offers the cap you want, it is the most supportable option and avoids attaching a legacy external utility to the client.
What Bloxstrap can and cannot replace
Bloxstrap previously offered Fast Flag editing and presets using DFIntTaskSchedulerTargetFps. Its current release notes say the Roblox Player Fast Flag Editor was removed after Roblox restricted which player Fast Flags can be used, and that the framerate-limit preset should use Roblox’s in-game setting instead. Bloxstrap may still provide launcher features, but it is not a guaranteed modern replacement for RFU’s old unlocker behavior.

Older guides that tell you to edit ClientAppSettings.json or set DFIntTaskSchedulerTargetFps describe a method whose availability and effect depend on Roblox’s current allowlist and client behavior. Do not assume those instructions work in 2026.
What not to do
- Do not enable, restart or repair the Windows Task Scheduler service as the main response to this RFU message.
- Do not download a DLL or “TaskScheduler patch” from an unknown site.
- Do not replace Roblox binaries or use a memory editor or injector as a substitute for RFU.
- Do not attempt to disable Hyperion or other Roblox security protections.
- Do not assume an old file-hosting copy is identical to the original release.
- Do not expect an FPS cap utility to improve network latency or game simulation quality.
When to remove RFU
Remove the utility and return to Roblox’s built-in limiter if the game starts crashing, shows abnormal behavior, produces latency or timing problems, or your security software continues to block it. Delete unofficial copies rather than trying to “repair” them with downloaded components. The RFU README discusses reduced risk after moving away from DLL injection, but no third-party tool is risk-free or officially endorsed by Roblox.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Roblox FPS Unlocker v4.4.0 malware?
The v4.4.0 build was a real release of axstin’s open-source project. Downloading it from a third-party repack, however, provides no equivalent assurance; use the original GitHub release page and scan the file.
Will v4.4.0 unlock 360 FPS today?
Not necessarily. The 360 option was a feature of that historical build. Current Roblox limits, allowlists, hardware, drivers, display refresh rate and the individual experience determine the actual FPS.
Should I restart Windows Task Scheduler to fix the popup?
Normally no. RFU’s message refers to Roblox’s internal frame scheduler structure, not the Windows Task Scheduler service. Upgrade RFU and verify the correct Roblox process first.
The Bottom Line
v4.4.0 is authentic but obsolete. Get it only from the original axstin release page when you specifically need that historical build; for the TaskScheduler popup, move to a later official release before changing Windows services or downloading unofficial patches.
