Most Roblox players no longer need a separate FPS unlocker. On the Windows PC client, join an experience, open Esc → Settings, set Maximum Framerate to 120, 144, or 240 FPS, then verify the result with Shift+F5. Roblox added this control for displays faster than 60 Hz and recommends it instead of an external unlocker.
What “FPS unlocker” means in Roblox now
An FPS unlocker removes or raises the client’s frame-rate limit; it does not make your computer render frames it cannot produce. The former rbxfpsunlocker project describes its function as removing Roblox’s 60 FPS limit, not increasing Roblox performance. A faster cap therefore cannot fix a CPU- or GPU-limited experience, thermal throttling, heavy graphics settings, or a 60 Hz monitor.
Roblox now provides the relevant control in the Windows client. That is the supported starting point and is less vulnerable to client updates than software that changes internal flags. External programs are legacy compatibility options, not a better default.
How to raise Roblox FPS with the built-in setting
- Close Roblox and any third-party unlocker. Do not have an external tool and Roblox’s own limiter competing while you change methods.
- Start Roblox and join an experience. The control is available from the in-experience settings menu.
- Press Esc, choose Settings, and locate Maximum Framerate.
- Select a ceiling that matches your display and system. The documented choices are Default (60), 60, 120, 144, and 240 FPS. Pick 120 for a 120 Hz display, 144 for a 144 Hz display, or 240 for a 240 Hz display when your computer can sustain it. Choosing 240 does not force the hardware to render at 240 FPS.
- Rejoin the experience if necessary. Some clients do not apply the new limit until the next join.
- Press Shift+F5. Roblox’s performance display shows render FPS. Compare that reading with the selected ceiling and with the monitor’s actual refresh rate.
Choosing the right maximum framerate

A 60 Hz panel cannot show 144 distinct refreshes per second even if Roblox reports more rendered frames. Set the operating system’s display refresh rate above 60 Hz and use a cable and port that support the chosen mode before judging the change.

Why you should not force 300, 360, or 480 FPS
Roblox staff have said that rates above 240 Hz are intentionally unsupported because they introduce quirks in the physics engine and in the rate at which RunService events fire. A later staff clarification says the engine has a non-negligible number of bugs above 240, including incorrect Heartbeat delta times.
Technical explanations of Roblox’s scheduler also note that input and network send/receive work is tied to rendering rate while physics runs at 240 Hz. A value above 240 can therefore create timing, physics, or networking problems even when an overlay appears to show that it works. Treat 300/360/480 FPS FastFlag recipes as unsupported experiments, not a working method; they can stop functioning after a client change.

Roblox’s own recommendation is to use the in-game setting instead of an external unlocker. If a legacy tool is being evaluated for compatibility, obtain it only from its official project release page and expect its behavior to change with Roblox updates. Never replace a broken tool with a random “FPS boost” download.

Confirm the client and platform
The documented rollout covered the Windows PC client. The announcement gave no Mac release estimate, so do not assume the same control exists on macOS or other platforms.

Check the monitor and Windows display mode
- Open Windows display settings and select the monitor’s advertised refresh rate above 60 Hz.
- Confirm the monitor is connected through a cable and port capable of that refresh rate.
- Remember that the monitor’s refresh rate and Roblox’s render FPS are separate measurements.
Remove competing limiters
Close duplicate Roblox launchers, overlays, and external unlockers. Rejoin the experience after changing Maximum Framerate so an old process is not enforcing 60 FPS.
Measure inside Roblox
Use Shift+F5 and read the render FPS. A monitor overlay alone can report a different value or measure the desktop rather than Roblox.

Diagnose a low result below your selected cap
If Shift+F5 shows 80 FPS after you selected 144, the cap is not the bottleneck. Investigate the experience’s workload, Roblox graphics quality, output resolution, CPU and GPU utilization, thermal throttling, and background applications. Lowering load or resolving a hardware constraint can raise FPS; an unlocker cannot supply missing CPU or GPU headroom.

Safe update and recovery practice
- After a Roblox update, test the built-in Maximum Framerate control first.
- If a third-party unlocker stopped working, uninstall or close it rather than downloading an unverified replacement.
- Set a documented ceiling of 120, 144, or 240 FPS and verify with Shift+F5.
- If performance is unstable above a chosen value, reduce the ceiling and check for CPU/GPU, temperature, and background-load problems.
What to expect from a higher FPS cap
- Higher FPS can make motion and input feel smoother on a high-refresh display.
- The selected number is a ceiling, not a performance promise.
- Rendering above a monitor’s refresh rate does not make that monitor display additional refreshes.
- Above 240 FPS is outside Roblox’s supported range because of engine timing and physics issues.
