If Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 stutters mainly when you move the mouse, close the game, lower the mouse polling rate to 500 Hz, and test again. If the hitching remains, try 250 Hz and then 125 Hz. Disable the Ubisoft Connect in-game overlay and relaunch before moving on to renderer or cache troubleshooting.
This is a PC workaround, not a confirmed universal patch. Ubisoft Support acknowledged the polling-rate advice and said the issue was noted for the development team, but that does not establish a permanent engine fix for every system.
Identify which kind of “lag” you have
Different symptoms need different fixes. Use the pattern that matches what you see:

A controller that feels smooth while mouse movement stutters is a useful clue toward the mouse, its software, or an overlay, but it is not conclusive proof.

1. Lower the mouse polling rate first
Polling (or report) rate is how often the mouse sends movement reports to Windows. DPI controls movement distance; changing DPI does not change report frequency.

- Exit The Division 2.
- Set the mouse to 500 Hz in its configuration utility.
- Launch the game and reproduce the same camera movement in the same location.
- If it still stutters, repeat at 250 Hz and then 125 Hz.
- Keep the highest rate that remains smooth; lower rates report less frequently and can feel slightly less responsive.
Razer mice
In Razer Synapse 4, select the mouse, open Performance, choose the polling rate, and start at 500 Hz. Available presets depend on the model. See Razer’s instructions.
Logitech mice
Use the report-rate control in the Logitech software supported by your device, commonly G HUB for Logitech G products. If the mouse supports it, save the setting to On-Board Memory so the lower rate remains active after you close the utility. Logitech explains report rate and possible FPS drops from rates above 1,000 Hz at its support page; G HUB and onboard-memory details are in its FAQ.
Other brands and profile problems
Your utility may call the setting polling rate, report rate, USB report rate, or response rate. Presets differ by model. Confirm that the active game profile uses the lower value, restart the game after changing it, and close the mouse utility for a test. If there is no control, try a basic wired mouse at 125–500 Hz.

High polling is not inherently defective: many games handle 1,000 Hz or 4,000/8,000 Hz correctly. Logitech notes that extra USB traffic can reduce FPS for some users, and Razer warns that some older engines may not handle high rates well. These statements make the workaround plausible but do not prove that every Division 2 installation is affected.
2. Remove overlay and hook conflicts
Disable the Ubisoft Connect in-game overlay, then fully restart Ubisoft Connect and the game. Ubisoft Connect is the free PC launcher and service: official download page. Labels and locations can change between launcher versions, so look in Ubisoft Connect settings or the game’s properties/settings page for the in-game overlay switch.
For an isolation test, disable one of these at a time rather than leaving everything off permanently:
- Steam Overlay
- NVIDIA App or GeForce overlay
- AMD Adrenalin overlay
- Discord overlay
- Xbox Game Bar
- MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner on-screen display
- Corsair iCUE monitoring or overlay features
- DisplayFusion hooks, taskbar enhancements, and screen-recording tools
Reports associate some of these tools with panning stutter, but they are isolation leads rather than confirmed causes.

3. Compare DirectX 11 and DirectX 12
The Division 2 supports both DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 on PC, as listed in Ubisoft’s PC specifications: Ubisoft specifications.
- Change the DirectX renderer in the game’s graphics settings.
- Restart the game completely.
- Repeat the same movement test without changing other graphics options.
If DX12 hitches, test DX11; if DX11 has worse frame pacing, test DX12. Player results differ, so neither renderer is a universal recommendation.
4. Rebuild the game’s shader cache
After a driver update, game update, renderer switch, hardware change, or configuration edit, an outdated cache can produce frame-time spikes. A community workaround is to rename the folders ShaderByte and ShadeCache under:

- Exit the game and Ubisoft Connect.
- Back up the entire folder.
- Rename the folders to
ShaderByte.oldandShadeCache.oldinstead of deleting them immediately. - Launch the game and allow its cache to rebuild.
- If performance worsens, close the game and restore the backup.
This is a community procedure, not a Ubisoft-published guarantee. The folder names and cache behavior can change with updates.
5. Verify files and reset graphics overrides
Repair the installation
- Ubisoft Connect: Open the game’s properties or manage options and use the available repair/file-verification command. Ubisoft’s wording and menu location may change.
- Steam: Open Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
Steam’s technical listing supports Windows 10 and Windows 11 and lists approximately 77 GB of storage: Steam support.
Change one graphics variable at a time
- Turn off Low Latency options temporarily.
- Compare fullscreen with borderless windowed mode.
- Disable V-Sync for a controlled test.
- Cap FPS slightly below the monitor’s refresh rate.
- Test hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling off.
- Remove custom NVIDIA or AMD per-game overrides.
- Reset the game’s graphics configuration if settings may be corrupted.
These are lower-confidence steps than polling-rate and overlay tests. Avoid registry edits, BIOS changes, permanent processor-affinity changes, anti-cheat priority tweaks, or security-setting changes without strong evidence; they can create new stability or anti-cheat problems.

- Reboot Windows.
- Close optional overlays, monitoring tools, and recording software.
- Save the lower polling rate to onboard memory if possible, then close the mouse utility.
- Launch Ubisoft Connect and then The Division 2.
- Test the same camera movement and location.
- Re-enable programs individually until the stutter returns.
If another mouse is smooth, compare its polling rate, wireless receiver, cable, and profile. A new mouse is not automatically a solution; a 4,000 Hz or 8,000 Hz model could worsen compatibility. If replacing hardware, prioritize adjustable report rate, onboard memory, dependable software, and a practical return policy.

7. When the problem is network lag
Mouse polling cannot normally make an internet connection misreport movement. Treat rubber-banding, delayed hit registration, disconnects, and Delta-03-style errors as a separate branch. Test a wired Ethernet connection, restart the router, stop background downloads, remove a VPN temporarily, check firewall/security software, and try another network. These steps cannot guarantee a fix for server-side faults.
Why the workaround can return
Players report the stutter returning after updates, sleep/resume, or launcher restarts. Recheck the active mouse profile and overlay state, restart the game after changing either, and repeat the diagnostic order rather than assuming a permanent fix.
FAQ
Does lowering DPI fix mouse stutter?
Usually not when the distinctive symptom is panning hitching. DPI changes movement sensitivity; polling rate changes report frequency.
Is 500 Hz always better than 1,000 Hz?
No. Use the highest rate that is smooth on your system. Start at 500 Hz because it is a practical compromise, then test lower only if needed.
Should I choose DX11 or DX12?
Neither is universally superior for this problem. Test both with a full restart and change no other settings during the comparison.
Can console players use these fixes?
No. This procedure targets Windows PC input, launchers, overlays, and renderers; it does not establish a PlayStation or Xbox fix.
Will buying a better mouse solve the issue?
Not necessarily. A configurable lower report rate and onboard profile memory are more useful troubleshooting features than a higher maximum polling rate.
