How NYT Connections works
Connections presents 16 words that must be sorted into four groups of four. The groups are color-coded by difficulty after you solve them: green is easiest, followed by yellow, blue and purple. You can make up to four mistakes. The game is available through the NYT Games site.

APPARITION
SHADE, SPECTER, SPIRIT and WIGHT are words for a ghostly presence. “Wight” is the least common of the four, which makes this group easier to overlook.
PREDICT
CALL, DIVINE, FORECAST and READ can each mean to predict or anticipate an outcome.
“BEST ___ PERFORMANCE” Grammy Award
AMERICANA, CHORAL, JAZZ and RAP complete Grammy category names: Best Americana Performance, Best Choral Performance, Best Jazz Performance and Best Rap Performance. The purple connection is the wording that follows “Best,” rather than a direct definition shared by the four words.
The complete word grid
DIVINE, RAP, BLEW, WIGHT, SPLIT, CALL, READ, CHORAL, FORECAST, SHADE, JAZZ, SPIRIT, BURST, AMERICANA, SPECTER and BROKE.
Difficulty and solving notes
The puzzle’s hint order follows the game’s colors: green is generally the most approachable, while purple is usually the most difficult. In this grid, several words have plausible overlaps—for example, CALL and READ can both suggest other meanings—so identifying the grammatical role of each word helps separate the prediction group from the rupture and apparition groups.
TechRadar contributor Johnny Dee described Connections as “the NYT’s clever word game that challenges you to group answers in various categories.” Dee rated this puzzle “Easy” and reported a perfect score; those are personal results, not a general difficulty statistic.
