The first phase of the October 2024 Global Sources Hong Kong Shows opened on October 11 at AsiaWorld-Expo and ran through October 14, 2024. It combined the Global Sources Consumer Electronics and Electronic Components shows for international business buyers. The event is historical, not a current or upcoming exhibition: its significance lies in how it put gaming hardware, AI-enabled sourcing tools and sustainability programs alongside conventional electronics manufacturing.
Global Sources presented the event under four themes—Innovation, eSports Thrills, AI Integration and Sustainability. The organizer reported more than 2,000 suppliers, nearly 4,000 booths, approximately 150,000 exhibits, over 10,000 new products and 26 electronics categories. Those are organizer-reported presentation figures, not independently audited measurements.

Why gaming received unusual emphasis
Gaming was treated as a sourcing ecosystem rather than a small computer-accessory segment. Global Sources said its Gaming and eSports Hall contained more than 500 booths, making it the largest gaming and esports-peripherals presence at that show to that point.

Experiences and demonstrations
The entertainment program included professional cosplayers, cosplay parades, dance performances, racing games, 360-degree photo booths, Nintendo consoles, music-boxing activities, an esports arena and gaming zones. These attractions gave buyers ways to see products in use and helped exhibitors draw traffic. They are engagement and demonstration tools, however—not independent proof of performance, durability or market demand.
For a gaming brand or distributor, the commercial opportunity was the ability to discuss peripherals, furniture, streaming, room installation and content-related merchandise in one place. A buyer still needed samples, firmware checks, warranty terms, factory verification and compliance testing before treating a demonstration as production evidence.
Innovation beyond a product launch
New Product Launch stage
Hall 7 hosted a New Product Launch stage where exhibitors introduced products to international buyers across gaming, audiovisual, automotive, outdoor, computer and component categories. A launch presentation can reveal a supplier’s direction and customization options, but it does not establish mass-production readiness or sales success.
Innovation Awards
The Global Sources Innovation Awards judged entries on design, innovation and quality. The reported panel included industry associations, technology media, standards authorities, experienced buyers and Global Sources’ own jury. This is an organizer-run recognition program, not a regulatory certification. An award does not by itself demonstrate electrical safety, radio compliance, durability, factory capability or commercial traction.

Show Genie 2.0
Global Sources introduced Show Genie 2.0 in its mobile app and website. The historical 2024 feature was described as supporting show-map navigation, product search, online interaction and buyer planning. Its intended value was to connect online discovery with meetings on the exhibition floor. The sources do not provide independent data showing that it reduced sourcing time, improved conversion or produced better supplier matches, and the feature’s name or interface should not be assumed to be unchanged in 2026.
How AI and online-to-offline sourcing fitted together
AI appeared in two forms. First, it was a subject of the summit program, which addressed generative-AI business applications, AI and hyperconnectivity, gaming’s relationship with the economy and digital transformation in sourcing. Second, digital services supported the physical event.
- Online product and supplier discovery before travel
- Digital maps and app-based interaction at the venue
- Livestreamed or cloud-supported expo experiences
- Pre-event marketing and registration-data analysis
- Post-event promotional and follow-up services
This model can reduce the friction of planning a large show, especially when a buyer arrives with target specifications and pre-booked meetings. The documented material establishes themes and service features, not independently measured productivity gains. “AI-enabled” should therefore be read as a description of the program and tools, not a guarantee of automated purchasing decisions or accurate supplier matching.
What sustainability meant in practice
The program promoted green exhibition practices, sustainable sourcing, charity donations, ESG-related seminars and prominent ESG logos for exhibitors with relevant green certifications. Sessions addressed ESG regulatory compliance and sustainable-development strategies in electronics. The stated purpose of the logos was to help buyers find suppliers with relevant certifications and give those suppliers more visibility.

How to check an ESG or green claim
- Request the exact certificate name and issuing organization.
- Check the certificate’s scope: factory, product, material, energy system or corporate process.
- Confirm the covered legal entity and facility address.
- Check issue and expiry dates and whether the document is valid for the product being quoted.
- Ask for supporting audits, test reports, declarations, material disclosures or chain-of-custody records where relevant.
- Verify that packaging, energy, recycled content and emissions claims are not being presented as interchangeable.
An ESG logo is not itself a certification, and exhibition sustainability measures do not prove that every displayed product was sustainably manufactured.
What buyers could actually source
Retailers and distributors
Finished products included computer peripherals, audiovisual equipment, automotive electronics, outdoor electronics and commercial electronics. Buyers could compare samples, packaging, private-label options, minimum order quantities and after-sales arrangements in person.
Gaming brands and esports businesses
The gaming hall supported conversations about peripherals, chairs, monitors, streaming, racing installations, esports-room design and merchandise. The breadth was useful for building a product line or venue, rather than selecting one isolated accessory.
Product developers and OEM/ODM teams
The electronic-components side included semi-finished batteries, power-supply equipment, connectors, product-application solutions and upstream semiconductor products. These are relevant to engineering and manufacturing teams that need specifications, tooling discussions, firmware ownership and production capacity—not just retail samples.

Automotive and outdoor-electronics businesses
Category breadth allowed buyers to investigate adjacent products in one trip. The practical value depended on whether the supplier could provide destination-market approvals, environmental ratings, battery and charger documentation, wireless testing and reliable service support.
What the attendance figure does—and does not—show
According to Global Sources’ post-event materials, the four-day event generated 61,590 buyer visits from approximately 200 countries and regions. “Buyer visits” counts entries or visit occasions; it should not be rewritten as 61,590 unique people or companies. The figure also does not reveal meeting-to-order conversion, supplier quality, product failure rates or how many launches entered mass production.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Due diligence still decides the outcome
A trade show compresses supplier discovery and physical inspection into a short period. It does not guarantee:
- Verified factory quality or production capacity
- Regulatory compliance in the destination market
- Competitive landed cost
- Exclusive designs or intellectual-property clearance
- Low minimum order quantities
- Reliable delivery, warranty or spare-parts support
Before placing an order, buyers should distinguish a manufacturer from an ODM, distributor or trading company; ask about tooling, firmware, samples, testing, warranty and minimum orders; calculate freight, tariffs, inspection and returns; and independently verify certificates and factory claims. Smart and gaming products also require review of apps, cloud dependencies, privacy and data handling.

How the Global Sources shows evolved after 2024
Global Sources continues to describe Hong Kong shows as recurring April and October events divided into phases. Its 2025 corporate brochure lists categories including Consumer Electronics, Electronic Components, Gaming, Mobile Electronics, Smart Home, Security and Home Appliances, Lifestyle, Home & Kitchen and Sports & Outdoor.
Global Sources Gaming became a standalone exhibition in April 2025, documented in the company’s April 2025 announcement. That later structure should not be retroactively attributed to the October 2024 event.
The official listing surfaced for 2026 shows October 11–14 and October 18–21, 2026 dates at Global Sources’ Hong Kong site. Dates, registration rules and layouts can change, so prospective attendees should confirm them immediately before booking travel. The recurring schedule and category evolution are also outlined in the Global Sources 2025 corporate brochure.
Bottom-line significance for electronics businesses
The October 2024 opening mattered because it put finished electronics, components, gaming infrastructure, digital sourcing and sustainability signaling into one buyer journey. Its strongest practical benefit was supplier density and live comparison. Its weakest point was the gap between promotional signals—awards, demos, ESG logos and AI claims—and the independent evidence a purchasing decision requires.
