How to Disable Xbox Achievement Notifications in Windows 10

Stop Xbox achievement pop-ups in Windows 10 without disabling achievement tracking. Follow the Game Bar method first, then use Windows sender controls or Focus Assist.

For an achievement-only change, press Windows + G, open the Game Bar Settings gear, choose Notifications, and turn off the option named something like Notify me when I unlock achievements. This should hide achievement alerts while leaving achievement recording available. If that control is missing or ineffective, disable the relevant Xbox sender in Start > Settings > System > Notifications & actions.

Turn off achievement alerts in Xbox Game Bar

  1. Start an Xbox-enabled game, or press Windows + G.
  2. Select the Settings gear.
  3. Open Notifications.
  4. Clear the achievement option. Depending on your Game Bar version, it may read Notify me when I unlock achievements, Show notifications when I unlock achievements, or Achievement notifications.
  5. Close Game Bar. If a banner still appears, close and reopen Game Bar and the game.

Labels and controls differ between Game Bar releases, especially on Windows 10 installations that no longer receive feature updates. This setting is intended to suppress the alert, not disable achievement tracking or Gamerscore. The achievement itself should continue to record and synchronize when the game and account services work normally.

Disable every Xbox or Game Bar notification in Windows 10

Use Windows’ per-sender controls when the achievement switch is unavailable, or when you want a broader block:

  1. Open Start > Settings > System > Notifications & actions.
  2. Scroll to Get notifications from these senders.
  3. Select Xbox Game Bar, Xbox, or the sender named by the alert.
  4. Set notifications to Off.

Windows documents these sender-level controls, including separate settings for banners, Action Center entries, and sounds: Microsoft’s Windows notification settings guide.

This broader switch can also remove Xbox messages, party invitations, friend activity, capture notices, and other alerts. The Xbox app and Game Bar may be separate senders, so disable both if both appear.

Hide banners, silence sounds, or remove Action Center entries

If you want to keep some Xbox notifications but change how they appear, open the sender’s detailed options under Notifications & actions and adjust the individual controls:

  • Show notification banners: removes on-screen pop-ups.
  • Show notifications in Action Center: stops the alert being retained in Windows’ notification history.
  • Play a sound when a notification arrives: stops the audible alert.

Turning off banners alone can leave a sound or an Action Center entry. Turning off sounds alone can leave the visual toast.

Check the Xbox PC app separately

In the Xbox app for PC, open your profile or account menu, choose Settings, and inspect Notifications for achievement or Game Bar-related options. The app’s layout changes more often than Windows’ sender controls, and an Xbox app preference does not necessarily govern Game Bar. If its option is absent or has no effect, use the Windows sender switch above.

Microsoft’s current Xbox PC app listing identifies Windows 10/11 version 22H2 or later, but that requirement does not mean every older Windows 10 installation has the same app components or interface: Xbox app for PC requirements.

Use Focus Assist for quiet gaming sessions

For temporary suppression rather than a permanent change, open Start > Settings > System > Focus assist and choose Priority only or Alarms only. Configure its automatic rules for gaming or full-screen applications if available. Focus Assist suppresses or defers many notifications, not just achievements, and may leave them available in Action Center. See Microsoft’s explanation of Focus Assist.

If achievement notifications keep appearing

  1. Open or locate the alert and identify the sender name above it. It may be Xbox, Xbox Game Bar, Game Bar, or the legacy Xbox Console Companion.
  2. In Notifications & actions, disable that exact sender. If both Xbox and Xbox Game Bar are listed, check both.
  3. Turn off banners and sounds separately if either remains.
  4. Close and reopen the Xbox app and Game Bar, then restart Windows if necessary.
  5. Confirm you changed the setting in the intended Microsoft/Xbox account session.

Community reports describe cases where an Xbox preference did not stop every notification type, so a sender-level Windows block is the practical escalation: Microsoft Community report and Microsoft Q&A report.

If the alert originated on an Xbox console, another Windows device, or the Xbox mobile app, changing Windows 10’s setting cannot silence that other device. Adjust notifications on the device that generated the alert.

Does this disable achievements?

No setting above is intended to turn off achievements. The targeted Game Bar control suppresses its notification; Windows sender controls suppress delivery or presentation by that app. To reassure yourself, optionally unlock an achievement and then check the Xbox profile for its recorded status. Game-specific services, account connectivity, and title compatibility can still affect synchronization independently of notification settings.

Windows 10 support context

Microsoft ended standard Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Existing systems can still expose these menus, but Xbox app and Game Bar wording or behavior may vary by installed version. Microsoft’s Windows settings documentation remains the reference for notification controls: Windows settings overview and notification controls.

Choose the least disruptive method

Method Best for What it changes Trade-off
Game Bar achievement option Only achievement alerts Achievement pop-ups when the control works Label or availability varies
Windows sender switch Reliable broad blocking All alerts from Xbox/Game Bar Messages, invites, captures, and other alerts also stop
Banner setting No visual pop-ups On-screen banners Sounds or Action Center entries may remain
Sound setting Silent gaming Notification audio Visual alerts may remain
Focus Assist Temporary quiet sessions Many notifications during selected conditions Not achievement-specific

The Bottom Line

Start with the achievement-specific Game Bar option. If it is unavailable or unreliable, identify the actual sender and turn off Xbox or Xbox Game Bar under Windows 10’s Notifications & actions; use Focus Assist only when you want temporary, broader silence.
