In a direct ten-game comparison, the 890M led in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Cyberpunk 2077, RoboCop: Rogue City, The First Descendant, Forza Horizon 5 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, while the two GPUs were close in several other tests.
The GTX 1650 remains the safer choice for sustained native 1080p because it has dedicated 4GB of VRAM and generally higher, steadier power delivery. The 890M is an integrated GPU using system memory, yet fast LPDDR5X and efficient laptop designs let it deliver GTX 1650-class results at 720p to 1080p Low settings.
What the Radeon 890M and GTX 1650 actually are
Radeon 890M
Radeon 890M is an integrated RDNA 3.5 GPU with 16 compute units. It has no dedicated VRAM; it reserves bandwidth from the computer’s system memory. That makes memory speed, capacity, firmware and cooling unusually important to gaming performance.
GeForce GTX 1650
The GTX 1650 is a discrete GPU with 4GB of dedicated VRAM. It avoids competing with the CPU for system-memory bandwidth and is commonly installed in desktops or gaming laptops with more sustained graphics power than a thin productivity notebook.

The primary ten-game test
The direct comparison recorded real gameplay at 1080p. The Radeon 890M was tested in an ASUS Vivobook S16 M5606WA with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 32GB of LPDDR5X-7500 and AMD driver 24.7.1. The GTX 1650 system used a desktop Ryzen 7 5800X3D, a Gainward GeForce GTX 1650 4GB, 32GB of DDR4-4000 and NVIDIA driver 560.81. Elgato capture was used, and each game had its own preset or resolution-scaling setting.
These are complete-platform results rather than a laboratory comparison of two isolated chips. The 890M benefits from very fast shared memory and a newer CPU, while the GTX 1650 benefits from dedicated VRAM and desktop-class sustained power. Laptop cooling, firmware, memory configuration, driver revisions and game patches can all change the observed frame rate.

| Game | Radeon 890M | GTX 1650 |
|---|---|---|
| Cyberpunk 2077 | 38 FPS | 54 FPS |
| Starfield | 31 FPS | 42 FPS |
| Forza Horizon 5 | 58 FPS | 72 FPS |
| Shadow of the Tomb Raider | 64 FPS | 82 FPS |

| Counter-Strike 2 | 103 FPS | 136 FPS |
| Apex Legends | 74 FPS | 96 FPS |
| Baldur’s Gate 3 | 61 FPS | 76 FPS |
That comparison reports an overall average of about 63 FPS for the 890M versus 81 FPS for the GTX 1650, describing the discrete card as roughly 25–30% faster under its own practical settings. The difference illustrates why no single universal “890M equals GTX 1650” number is reliable: memory allocation, power limits, resolution scaling, presets, CPU choice and cooling all matter.
Why the 890M can win some games
- Fast shared memory: LPDDR5X-7500 supplies much more bandwidth than ordinary laptop memory, reducing one of the usual integrated-GPU bottlenecks.
- Modern architecture: newer graphics features and game-engine behavior can favor RDNA 3.5 in selected workloads.
- Platform balance: the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and 32GB memory configuration give the tested laptop substantial CPU and memory resources.
- Scalable settings: games that respond well to Low presets or resolution scaling can run acceptably without requiring large texture-memory reserves.
Why the GTX 1650 is still more predictable
- Dedicated VRAM: its 4GB graphics memory is not shared with the operating system and CPU, helping texture-heavy scenes and reducing memory contention.
- Sustained power: a desktop card or a well-cooled gaming laptop can maintain its performance longer than a thin notebook constrained by temperature and power limits.
- Native 1080p headroom: the GTX 1650 is generally the lower-risk option when a game must stay at native 1080p with heavier textures.
- Less platform sensitivity: changes in system-memory speed have a smaller effect than they do on an integrated GPU.
Which GPU is better for your target resolution?
Choose the Radeon 890M when
- You value a thin, efficient laptop and do not want a separate graphics chip.
- You are comfortable with 720p, 900p or 1080p Low settings and, where needed, resolution scaling.
- You play esports or games with scalable engines that remain responsive at lower presets.
- The laptop has fast dual-channel or soldered LPDDR5X memory and adequate cooling.
Choose the GTX 1650 when
- You want the most consistent native-1080p experience across older and newer AAA games.
- You use high-resolution textures or games with large open worlds.
- You can accept a thicker laptop or desktop in exchange for more sustained graphics power.
- You need performance that is less dependent on system-memory speed and firmware tuning.
How to interpret FPS claims for these GPUs
- Check the exact resolution and preset. “1080p” can still mean Low settings or an internal resolution below 1080p.
- Check whether the 890M system uses fast LPDDR5X and how much memory is available to the GPU.
- Check power limits and cooling. The same 890M model can perform differently in a thin notebook and a larger performance laptop.
- Separate average FPS from frame-time consistency. A higher average does not guarantee better 1% lows or smoother traversal in demanding scenes.
- Confirm the driver and game version before comparing results. AMD driver 24.7.1 and NVIDIA driver 560.81 were used in the primary test, and later updates can alter performance.
Verdict
Radeon 890M has genuinely reached GTX 1650-class performance in selected games, especially when paired with very fast memory and sensible settings. The ten-game test shows parity or an 890M lead in several titles, but a separate comparison found the GTX 1650 about 25–30% faster overall under different conditions. Treat the 890M as a capable integrated solution for efficient 720p–1080p Low gaming, not as a guaranteed one-for-one replacement for every GTX 1650 system.
