Its defining traits are 8GB of GDDR5 on a 512-bit bus, a 1010MHz GPU clock, a three-fan triple-slot cooler, and one 6-pin plus one 8-pin PCIe power connection. This page focuses on the card’s construction, installation requirements and display hardware rather than current gaming performance.
PowerColor PCS+ R9 390 specifications
HotHardware lists the card as PowerColor model AXR9 390 8GBD5-PPDHE, using AMD’s Hawaii GPU. The review reports 2,560 stream processors and 8GB of GDDR5 memory.
| Specification | Reported value | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | AMD Hawaii | HotHardware, 2015 |
| Stream processors | 2,560 | HotHardware, 2015 |
| GPU clock | 1,010MHz | HotHardware, 2015; the reviewed PowerColor model |
| Graphics memory | 8GB GDDR5 | HotHardware, 2015 |
| Memory clock | 1,500MHz (6.0Gbps effective) | HotHardware, 2015 |
| Memory interface | 512-bit | HotHardware, 2015 |
| Board length | 305mm | HEXUS, 2015 |
| Expansion space | Three slots in practice | HEXUS, 2015; chassis clearance should be checked before installation |
The 1010MHz core and 1500MHz memory settings are the values reported for this PCS+ board, not a specification that applies to every Radeon R9 390.
Triple-fan cooler and card size
Three-slot heatsink
PowerColor uses a bulky cooler with three fans, a large fin stack and heat pipes. HotHardware describes the design as a triple-slot solution that controls temperatures effectively, although it is not silent when the GPU is under load.

- GPU Tweak II with X split Game caster provides intuitive performance tweaking and lets you stream your gameplay instantly.
Dimensions and hardware details
HEXUS measures the card at 305mm long and describes three 80mm fans, four heat pipes and a rear plate. In a typical case, the board therefore consumes the space of three expansion slots rather than the two slots suggested by many conventional graphics cards. Leave room beside the card for the cooler and verify that front-drive cages or radiators do not obstruct its 305mm length.
BIOS positions
HEXUS reports quiet and standard BIOS positions. The review says the two modes retain the same operating frequencies, so the switch changes the card’s operating profile rather than providing a documented clock increase.

Power requirements and installation
PCIe connectors
The card requires two supplementary PCIe leads: one 6-pin connector and one 8-pin connector. Both must be connected for normal operation; a power supply with only a single suitable lead is not an adequate match.
Power-supply guidance
PowerColor’s recommendation, relayed by HotHardware, is a 750W minimum system power supply. That is a general manufacturer recommendation for a complete system, not a calculation tailored to your processor, drives or overclocking. Check that the unit can deliver the required PCIe connectors and sufficient output on its 12V rails.

Case checklist
- Confirm at least 305mm of usable graphics-card length.
- Reserve three adjacent expansion slots.
- Provide one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCIe power connector.
- Use adequate intake and exhaust airflow because the cooler is designed to move substantial air under load.
Display outputs and 4K limitation
The rear I/O bracket carries two DVI ports, one HDMI port and one full-size DisplayPort output. This mix supports older DVI monitors while retaining a modern DisplayPort connection.
HEXUS notes a limitation of the card’s older HDMI implementation: when connected to a newer television, it does not provide 4K at 60Hz. For a 4K display, DisplayPort is the safer output to plan around; otherwise verify the television’s supported refresh rates before relying on HDMI.

What this page establishes—and what it does not
This is a 2015 model-specific hardware overview. It establishes the PCS+ board’s physical design, clocks, memory configuration, connectors and outputs as reported by HotHardware and HEXUS at that time. It does not establish present-day availability, used-market pricing, current driver support, performance in modern games or relative speed against contemporary GPUs. The exact card was linked to an Amazon product page in HotHardware’s specification table, but a current listing was not established.
