The ASUS ROG Matrix Platinum GeForce RTX 5090 is a limited-edition graphics card marking ASUS’s 30th anniversary in graphics cards. Its defining look is a circular illuminated frame around two stacked fans at the card’s end; its cooling system uses four fans, a copper vapor chamber, heatpipes and liquid metal. It is also an unusually large, high-power card, and its advertised 800W mode requires specific hardware rather than being its standard operating draw.
What is different about the ROG Matrix RTX 5090?
ASUS unveiled the card at Gamescom on August 19, 2025, as a 30th-anniversary limited edition. The official product name is ROG Matrix Platinum GeForce RTX 5090. It is a physical GeForce RTX 5090 add-in card built on NVIDIA Blackwell.
The anniversary design combines a metallic copper-aluminum heatsink and metallic exterior accents with a distinctive circular frame surrounding two vertically stacked fans at the card’s end. A rounded translucent panel is illuminated in homage to the “infinity mirror” lighting on the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. ASUS’s Gamescom announcement introduced the design as a callback to earlier Matrix cards.
How many fans does the ASUS ROG Matrix RTX 5090 have?
It has four fans in total. Two are visible within the circular end frame, while the overall cooling layout is a quad-fan vertical-airflow design. The design also incorporates a copper vapor chamber and heatpipes, selected pure-copper heatsink fins, and liquid metal on the GPU die. ASUS says its production method keeps the liquid metal within the die area.

ASUS publishes several thermal figures, but they are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements: it says the quad-fan design can provide up to 20% greater airflow pressure and up to 10% better overall thermal performance, while the vapor chamber and heatpipe combination can produce more than 5% lower GPU temperatures. These comparisons should not be read as guaranteed results in every case or as proof that the Matrix runs cooler than another RTX 5090; no like-for-like independent testing is established here. What enthusiast features does it include?
Memory Defroster and PCB design
Memory Defroster is intended for extreme liquid-nitrogen overclocking. ASUS says it activates at around 0°C to help recover from memory-related freezes. That makes it a specialized overclocking feature, not a typical gaming benefit. ASUS also says the PCB’s three-ounce copper layer reduces voltage drops and improves heat dissipation.

Dual BIOS and software tools
Dual BIOS provides a performance-oriented fan mode and a quieter fan-curve mode. ASUS’s GPU Tweak III software includes tuning and monitoring functions such as Level Sense, which checks card position, and Power Detector+, which monitors for power anomalies. These are configuration and monitoring tools; they do not change the card’s physical fit or power requirements.
Can the ROG Matrix RTX 5090 use 800 watts?
Yes, but only in a specific optional configuration. ASUS’s advertised 800W mode requires an Advanced BTF motherboard with the BTF Graphics Card High-Power Adapter, plus a separate direct 12V-2×6 cable from the card to the power supply. For that dual-input arrangement, ASUS advertises up to 10% more performance or overclocking headroom. That is a conditional manufacturer claim, not the card’s ordinary power draw; an Advanced BTF board is not stated as necessary for standard operation. Details are on ASUS’s dual-power announcement.

Will it fit your PC, and what does it require?
ASUS US specifications list the card at 370.3 × 150.5 × 77.3mm, occupying 3.9 slots. Measure available case length and clearance around adjacent expansion slots before buying. The same US specifications recommend a 1200W or higher power supply for a fully overclocked GPU-and-CPU system; this is ASUS’s system recommendation, not a statement that every configuration draws 1200W.

These are ASUS US-listed specifications; ASUS notes that specifications can change and products may vary by market. Check the local model listing and your system’s clearance and power connections before purchase. The 800W feature has the additional Advanced BTF and direct 12V-2×6 requirements described above.

Price and availability
ASUS’s product materials identify the model and specifications but do not establish a current price or stock status. ASUS announced the card in August 2025 and announced its launch in November 2025; neither date confirms present availability in a particular region. Check regional retailers for current pricing, stock and seller details rather than relying on an old announcement.
