Disney President and Chief Creative Officer Dana Walden said, “Those are not the conversations we’re having right now,” when asked about buying the company. She also said the partners have more launches planned over the next two years, though they have not published a complete schedule.
Is Disney buying Epic Games?
Not according to Walden’s recent comments. Insider Gaming reported that she said Disney had previously considered “very serious questions about an investment and an equity stake,” but clarified that buying all of Epic is not what the companies are discussing now. That statement describes the current conversation; it does not rule on what either company might consider in the future.
Disney has not bought Epic Games or Fortnite. It does, however, own an equity stake in Epic following a $1.5 billion investment announced by Disney on February 7, 2024. Disney’s announcement also established a multiyear collaboration to build a games and entertainment universe connected to Fortnite.
Why people thought Disney might buy Epic
The speculation has a clear source: Disney made a substantial investment in Epic and announced an ambitious partnership around Fortnite. Those facts point to a close strategic relationship, but they are not evidence of an active full-buyout negotiation. Walden’s comments distinguish the two: Disney has an equity stake and a major collaboration, while a purchase of all of Epic is not currently under discussion.

What the Disney-Epic partnership is meant to build
The planned experience is a persistent, open and interoperable universe connected with Fortnite. Disney says it will bring together stories and characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Avatar, with opportunities for users to play, watch, shop, create and engage with content. The companies describe a broader entertainment environment, not just a single Fortnite skin or limited-time event. The scope and features of individual launches have not all been detailed publicly.
Disney’s March 2026 leadership announcement identifies Sean Shoptaw as overseeing the Games and Digital Entertainment organisation, including its collaboration with Epic to develop a Disney universe connected to Fortnite. Disney’s leadership information shows the project remains within the company’s games and digital entertainment remit.

What Disney content is already in Fortnite?
Existing integrations give players examples of the companies’ current collaboration and licensing activity. Insider Gaming points to appearances involving The Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean, Maleficent, Captain Hook, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Toy Story, as well as a Marvel-themed Chapter 5 Season 4 and Star Wars-focused content in Chapter 6.
These examples establish that Disney-related content has appeared in Fortnite; they do not confirm every rumored future crossover. A branded item or event is also distinct from the larger persistent universe the companies have said they intend to develop.

What are the next Disney-Fortnite collaborations?
Walden said, “We have a great partnership and a number of launches coming up in the next two years that are going to demonstrate the value of this partnership.” That is a forward-looking statement from a Disney executive, not a dated release calendar. The available announcements do not identify every launch, provide release dates, or say whether any future project would affect ownership of Epic.
Specific predictions about a particular Fortnite season or a tie-in to a film such as Avengers: Doomsday should therefore be treated as speculation unless Disney, Epic or Fortnite announces them. The companies have confirmed more launches in general, not a complete slate of named collaborations.
What Disney’s investment means for players
The investment matters because it gives Disney an equity stake in Epic and accompanies a multiyear plan to connect Disney entertainment with Fortnite. For players, the practical distinction is between content already available, future launches the companies have broadly promised, and unconfirmed rumors about what those launches will contain. Neither the investment nor the partnership means Disney owns Fortnite.
