The graveyard-to-mansion route is consistent across guides, but their directions through the mansion conflict, so treat the exact interior path as uncertain.
Where to find Skeleton Keys in Fortnite
Head to the graveyard at Nightmare Neighborhood and search the stone mausoleums for buried chests. TechWiser’s October 2, 2026 walkthrough reports three mausoleums, two of which contain chests with Skeleton Keys; BO3.GG’s October 2 guide also reports that players can find up to two keys there. These item-location details come from third-party guides, not Epic’s event announcement.
Epic’s October 1, 2026 Fortnitemares announcement confirms Nightmare Neighborhood is a new Battle Royale point of interest, but it does not describe the keys or basement puzzle.
How to reach the secret basement rooms
With a key, go from the graveyard to the nearby mansion. The guides agree that the basement has three locked doors and that each door consumes one Skeleton Key when opened. They do not agree on the precise route inside the mansion:

Because these walkthroughs give different interior directions, don’t rely on either sequence as definitive. BO3.GG says a held key displays a directional indicator toward the secret-room area if it appears in your match; use it as a guide rather than assuming the mansion layout will match a particular walkthrough.
What is behind each basement door?
Room rewards vary between matches. The guides describe loot ranging from basic supplies and weapons to chests, with rare chests appearing in some rooms. They do not establish a guaranteed reward for any specific door, so there is no reliably best room to target.

Is the Skeleton Key a limited-time item?
TechWiser describes the Skeleton Key as Fortnitemares-exclusive and says it leaves when the event wraps up. Epic’s October 1 announcement confirms the event and Nightmare Neighborhood’s presence, but does not state an expiry date for this mechanic. A precise end date for key availability is therefore not established by these sources.
