For Sony’s current Japan Store PS5 Pro allocation, applicants must have logged at least 60 hours of PS5 and/or PS4 play while signed in to their Sony account during a fixed two-year window. That window ended on September 27, 2026, so applicants cannot add qualifying hours now. Meeting the requirement only makes an applicant eligible: if eligible applications exceed available units, Sony says it will use a lottery.
Who qualifies for Sony’s Japan PS5 Pro application?
The 60-hour threshold is one of several conditions for Sony’s current Sony Store application. Applicants must satisfy all of the following:
- Use PlayStation online services with a Sony account registered in Japan.
- Have at least 60 cumulative hours of game play on PS5, PS4, or both, while signed in to that account.
- Have the Sony account linked to a My Sony ID. Sony says My Sony IDs registered from January 19, 2022 onward are already unified with the account.
- Reside in Japan and agree to Sony’s application terms.
- Apply for no more than one console per account. Sony asks applicants not to apply or purchase with the intention of resale.
Sony sets the eligible playtime window as September 27, 2024 through September 27, 2026 at 23:59. The requirement is cumulative, not 60 hours on each console. Because the window is closed, play logged after that cutoff does not count. See Sony’s Japan Store application terms for the complete conditions.
What happens after applying?
Sony lists October 7, 2026 at 23:59 as the application deadline. It says it expects to contact applicants from October 26, after checking eligibility. If eligible applications outnumber planned units, Sony will allocate purchase opportunities by lottery; the application itself is not a guaranteed order.

Selected applicants must complete payment through Sony Store online by November 2, 2026 at 11:59. Sony says unused allocations may be offered in a later redraw to eligible applicants who were not selected initially. These are Sony’s announced dates and process, not a guarantee that every eligible applicant will receive an offer.
What console and price does the application cover?
The current listing is for PS5 Pro model CFI-7100B01, with a 2TB SSD and one DualSense wireless controller, at ¥137,980 including tax. That is the current application price, not the launch price. Sony’s September 10, 2024 announcement gave a Japanese suggested retail price of ¥119,980 including tax and a planned release date of November 7, 2024.

Sony describes PS5 Pro as offering an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing and machine-learning-based upscaling called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). Its current Japan product page says supported games can run from 60 fps to up to 120 fps on compatible 4K displays; performance depends on the game and display. These are Sony’s product descriptions, not independent test results. Details are on the 2024 announcement and Japan PS5 Pro product page.

No. Sony’s application page says PS5 Pro is facing stock shortages in Japan, and the account-history requirement screens applicants before a restricted allocation. That could make opportunistic buying harder, but Sony has not published evidence showing how much scalping the rule prevents or whether it improves access for ordinary buyers. The available material also does not state application volume, lottery odds or outcomes for this allocation. GamesRadar+ reported the rule in the context of the shortage, but the effect remains unmeasured (GamesRadar+ report, September 28, 2026).
