AMD FSR 3.1 is broadly cross-vendor. AMD GPUOpen lists Radeon RX 5000-series and newer and GeForce RTX 20-series and newer for FSR 3/3.1 upscaling and frame generation, while recommending RX 6000-series and RTX 30-series or newer for the best combined experience. Game support is separate: AMD’s live catalog groups titles under “FSR 3,” not a perfectly audited FSR 3.1-only list, so a menu option labelled FSR 3 does not prove that the game uses FSR 3.1.
Check both your GPU class and the individual game’s implementation before enabling frame generation or planning an upgrade.

AMD describes FSR 3.1 as a non-ML technology, so it does not require dedicated machine-learning hardware. AMD’s supported-product guidance is published at GPUOpen. AMD also notes on its consumer FSR page that it does not provide technical or warranty support for enabling FSR on another vendor’s card.
FSR 3.1 supported games
AMD’s live supported-games page currently lists 171 entries in its FSR 3 category. That number confirms FSR 3-family support, not that every title uses FSR 3.1, includes frame generation, or runs the same revision on every platform. AMD says the list can change.

Use the live AMD page for the current title-by-title status. A game can expose FSR upscaling only, upscaling plus frame generation, or an older FSR implementation that has not been updated.

Games AMD marks with FSR 3.1 integration
AMD’s newer FSR “Redstone” section uses asterisks to identify titles with FSR 3.1 integration that can qualify for the driver upgrade path. This is the strongest indication on AMD’s page that a listed game has the required integration, but it is not a claim that every title uses the newest SDK revision natively.

AMD says proper in-game FSR 3.1 integration is required for ML-based FSR upscaling, while FSR 3.1.4 integration is required for the ML-based frame-generation path. The driver upgrade also requires DirectX 12.

FSR 3 supports DirectX 12 and Vulkan; AMD’s current developer documentation also covers Unreal Engine 5.1 through 5.6. The driver-based Redstone path is narrower because it requires DirectX 12 and the specific FSR 3.1 or 3.1.4 integration.
How to enable ordinary FSR 3.1
- Update the game and install a current GPU driver.
- Open the game’s Graphics, Video or Display settings.
- Select AMD FSR 3, FSR 3.1 or the equivalent upscaling option. Menu labels vary by title.
- Start with Quality; use Balanced if GPU load remains high, and reserve Performance for cases where you need the extra output rate.
- Enable frame generation separately if the game provides a separate toggle.
- Use variable refresh rate and a sensible frame-rate limit where available.
- Disable frame generation if latency, ghosting, duplicate objects or frame pacing are unacceptable.

This is not the normal method for turning on basic FSR 3.1. On a compatible Radeon system:

- Install a supported FSR game and close it.
- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
- Choose Gaming, then the Graphics sub-tab.
- Enable the relevant AMD FSR Upscaling or AMD FSR Frame Generation option.
- Launch the game and enable FSR 3.1 in its graphics menu.
AMD currently lists RX 9000 support with Adrenalin 25.12.1 or newer and RX 7000 support for Redstone upscaling with Adrenalin 26.6.2 or newer. Eligibility still depends on the supported game, DirectX 12 and the required integration.

Frame generation inserts an interpolated frame; it does not create an equivalent additional simulation step. The displayed FPS can rise while controls still feel limited by the underlying rendered frame rate. AMD says FSR 3 frame generation works best from roughly 60 FPS before interpolation and warns that sub-30-FPS input makes artifacts more visible.

- Establish a strong base frame rate before enabling generation; a 30-FPS base should not be presented as native-60-FPS responsiveness.
- Use Radeon Anti-Lag 2 where the game and driver support it.
- Prefer Quality or Balanced over Performance and Ultra Performance when fine detail matters. Lower internal resolutions can damage foliage, hair, particles, thin geometry and transparent effects, and generated frames can amplify those defects.
- Upscaling without frame generation is often preferable below about 60 FPS, in CPU-limited scenes, or in competitive games where latency matters more than output smoothness.
Troubleshooting FSR 3.1
The game shows FSR 3, but AMD Software does not detect it
- The title may use an older FSR implementation.
- It may not be on AMD’s Redstone-supported list or may not be running DirectX 12.
- The game may need an update, or its FSR files may be integrated in a way the driver cannot recognize.
- Install the required Adrenalin version and launch the supported game executable directly where possible.
Generated FPS is high, but the game feels laggy
Check the pre-generation frame rate first. Generated frames improve displayed smoothness, not the simulation and input latency of a low base rate. Disable generation or lower settings until the rendered frame rate is stable.
Frame pacing is erratic
AMD warns that software intercepting DXGI calls, including some overlay libraries, can interfere with FSR 3 frame generation. Disable third-party overlays, competing frame-generation systems and AMD Fluid Motion Frames, then test the game’s own limiter or a trusted external limiter. Re-enable overlays one at a time.
Consoles and competing GPUs
FSR 3.1 is designed to be cross-platform and can support consoles, but console availability is entirely title- and platform-dependent; players cannot assume a selectable FSR option. On GeForce, FSR can run even though AMD does not provide vendor support for another company’s hardware. Intel Arc requires title-specific confirmation rather than an assumption based on FSR’s shader-based design.
Should you upgrade your GPU for FSR 3.1?
- Already own RX 5000/6000 or RTX 20/30: test FSR 3.1 before upgrading; ordinary support is already within AMD’s published classes.
- 1080p buyer: a current entry-level Radeon or GeForce is a more sensible target than an old RX 500-series card when frame generation is important.
- 1440p buyer: RX 7700 XT, RX 7800 XT or comparable RTX 30/40-class hardware provides more headroom than budget cards.
- Redstone buyer: verify the exact Radeon generation, driver requirement and target game. RX 9000 is AMD’s primary current class for the ML feature set, while RX 7000 has narrower listed support.
Buying a new GPU is not required for ordinary FSR 3.1. The upgrade decision is mainly about rendering headroom and access to AMD’s newer, separate ML feature path.

Bottom line: FSR 3.1 is broadly available on Radeon RX 5000+ and GeForce RTX 20+ hardware, with RX 6000+ and RTX 30+ the classes AMD recommends for frame generation. Confirm the game’s actual integration on AMD’s live list, target about 60 FPS before generation, and keep ordinary FSR 3.1 separate from the newer Radeon-specific FSR “Redstone” features.
