Update Visions of Mana and your PS5 first, then restart the console and work through the remaining fixes in order. Square Enix has patched specific problems—including one PS5 application error during an elemental-monster encounter—but no official source confirms a universal fix for every crash.
First, identify what is failing
Note what happens and when before changing anything. A game closing to the PS5 home screen is different from a frozen game, a full console shutdown, or a disc-read error. Record any CE-series error code and the location, enemy, action, or menu that preceded it.
- Only Visions of Mana closes or freezes: Start with game updates, installation, and a save-specific test.
- The PS5 shuts off or restarts: Treat this as a possible console, power, or thermal problem rather than an ordinary game crash. If the console shows an overheating warning, note it; a game crash alone does not establish overheating.
- Several games crash, or system menus also fail: Broaden troubleshooting to the PS5 and contact PlayStation if the problem persists.
- A disc-read error appears: Follow the disc checks below, especially if other disc games behave differently.
- The crash repeats at the same action or encounter: Check for a relevant patch and preserve the exact reproduction details for support.
Sony notes that problems affecting more than one game may indicate a console issue. Its troubleshooting guide covers game crashes, freezes, disc checks, and escalation: Sony’s game-freeze and crash guide.
Try these fixes in order
1. Check for a game update
- Highlight Visions of Mana on the PS5 home screen.
- Press the Options button.
- Select Check for Update and install any available update.
Square Enix has issued multiple post-launch updates. Version 1.01 lists improved processing during gameplay and bug fixes; Version 1.04 lists performance-related adjustments for PS5 and PS4 as well as other fixes. Those notes show that the game has received stability-related changes, not that every crash has been resolved. See the Version 1.01 notes and Version 1.04 notes.

Do not rely on an old article’s claim that a particular version is “the latest.” Check the installed version on your console and look for updates; the official pages establish update history but do not provide one live version dashboard for every region and edition.
2. Update PS5 system software
Open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings, then select the available update option. Labels may vary slightly with system software or region. 3. Restart, then power-cycle if needed
Use the PS5’s normal restart first. If the crash returns, Square Enix recommends this power cycle:

- Turn off the PS5 using its power button.
- Unplug the power cable from the back of the console.
- Wait two minutes.
- Reconnect the cable, turn on the PS5, and try the game again.
This clears a temporary power state; it does not reset the console or delete installed games or save data. Square Enix’s PlayStation crash guidance includes the two-minute power cycle.
4. Test whether the crash is tied to the existing save
Do this as a diagnostic, not as a reason to delete your original save. Back it up first if cloud storage or another backup option is available. Start a temporary new game and try to reproduce the same action or reach the same situation.
- If the new save also crashes at the same point, the trigger may be game- or encounter-specific.
- If the new save works but the existing one crashes, a save-specific or progression-state issue is possible. That does not prove the original save is permanently unrecoverable.
Sony includes starting from the beginning without the existing save as a crash diagnostic in its game-freeze and crash guide.

5. Reinstall the game
Reinstalling the game is different from deleting its saved data. Keep the original save; do not remove it as an early troubleshooting step.
- Delete Visions of Mana from the PS5.
- Reinstall it from your Game Library, or reinstall from the disc.
- Let the installation and any update finish before launching.
- Reinstall applicable DLC or add-ons, then test the game before adding optional content back if practical.
Sony recommends deleting and reinstalling a repeatedly crashing game, and Square Enix also advises reinstalling when installed game data may be corrupted: Sony’s crash guide and Square Enix’s PlayStation crash guidance.
6. Clear the PS5 cache or rebuild its database
If updates, a restart or power cycle, and reinstalling have not helped, use the current PS5 Safe Mode instructions to find the available cache-clearing or database-rebuilding options. Sony’s PS5 software troubleshooting guidance and Square Enix’s crash guidance include database rebuilding as a later step.

A database rebuild is a storage-index troubleshooting measure, not a guaranteed repair and not a fix for a defective save. Follow Sony’s current PS5 instructions rather than older directions that refer to a DualShock 4 controller.

Crash while soul bursting an elemental monster
Square Enix’s Version 1.32 notes list a PS5 application-error fix that could occur when soul bursting an elemental monster, such as a fire elemental. If that is your repeatable trigger, check for an update before trying more disruptive steps. The note supports this specific fix; it does not say that Version 1.32 resolves random crashes, save-related crashes, every elemental encounter, or full console shutdowns. Disc-read error or disc edition will not install
- Clean the disc with a clean, soft cloth.
- Try another disc game in the PS5.
- If only the Visions of Mana disc produces read errors, the disc or its installation may be involved.
- If several discs fail, focus on the console or disc drive and contact PlayStation if the problem continues.

Game will not launch, or the problem began after an update
Check for another game or system update, restart the PS5, and reinstall the game if it still will not launch. If the failure began after a patch and remains repeatable, note the installed game version and the exact point where launch or loading fails before contacting Square Enix.
Console powers off or multiple games fail
A full shutdown, repeated overheating warning, or failures across unrelated games are not well explained by a single Visions of Mana installation. Stop treating the issue as an ordinary game-only crash. If system updates and the appropriate Safe Mode troubleshooting do not resolve it, contact PlayStation Support or Repairs.
When to contact support
If only Visions of Mana continues to crash after updates and reinstalling, contact Square Enix Support. If multiple games or system functions are affected, or the PS5 powers off, contact PlayStation through its crash support guide.
Include enough detail to make the problem reproducible:
- PS5 model (original, Slim, or Pro), and whether the game is disc or digital.
- Your region and game language.
- The game version shown on the console and the PS5 system-software version.
- The exact location, quest, enemy, menu, or action immediately before the crash.
- Whether it happens every time, any CE error code, and whether a temporary new save behaves differently.
- Whether reinstalling changed the behavior, plus a screenshot or video if available.
Sony asks players reporting a crash to provide a detailed description, reproduction steps, and a screenshot or video where possible. A factory reset is not an appropriate early fix for a problem isolated to one game: Sony warns that resetting erases data stored on the console, so treat it only as a last resort after backing up important data and following official support guidance.
