Turn on Net Debug Stats in Settings → Game UI, select Apply, then enter a match. Your ping and other network details should appear in the upper-left corner.
How to turn on ping in Fortnite
- Open Fortnite and go to the lobby.
- Open the menu in the upper-right corner and select Settings.
- Open the Game UI tab.
- Set Net Debug Stats to On. Epic support pages may also refer to the setting as “Net Debug Stat.”
- Select Apply to save the change.
- Start or join a match to view the live network information.
Epic’s support instructions give this path as the standard in-game method. Menu icons, tab positions, and labels can vary slightly by platform, language, or Fortnite UI update. Epic’s network-performance instructions show the setting and apply step.
Where to find your ping
During a match, look in the upper-left corner for the network overlay. Ping is shown in milliseconds (ms): it represents the time for data to travel between your device and a Fortnite server and back. Epic says to start a match for meaningful live results, so do not rely on the lobby to show a normal in-game reading. See Epic’s packet-loss instructions.
What the network display means
Ping
Lower latency generally means less delay before the server receives your actions. There is no single official Fortnite cutoff that makes a ping “good” or “unplayable” for every player: the feel also depends on consistency, server region, and game mode.

Packet loss
Packet loss means some data sent between your device and the server does not arrive. Epic’s overlay guidance says a solid white line indicates no packet loss; red bars or lines indicate packet loss. A modest ping number does not rule out packet loss as the cause of lag or interruptions. Epic explains the network display and indicators here.
Jitter and consistency
Jitter is variation in latency over time; it is not necessarily shown as a dedicated Fortnite statistic. A connection that swings between readings can feel less responsive than one with a somewhat higher but stable ping.

- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
If ping is missing or the display says “Disabled”
- No live number in the lobby: Enter a match; Epic says real network results appear after a match starts.
- The overlay itself is off: Return to Settings → Game UI, enable Net Debug Stats, and select Apply.
- You see “Disabled” in network details: Epic says this message may appear without preventing play. To stop it appearing, turn Net Debug Stats off and select Apply.
- Connection problems affect play: Check Epic Games server status before changing local settings; a service problem may not be fixed by restarting your router.
Epic describes the “Disabled” message in its network-performance support article.
Test Fortnite data-center latency on a computer
An external ping test can help identify broader routing or packet-loss problems. It does not reproduce a live match exactly: the actual game server, route, matchmaking region, and server conditions can differ.

Open Command Prompt and run this example for NA-East:
ping ping-nae.ds.on.epicgames.com -n 50
The command sends 50 packets and reports latency and packet loss. Replace the hostname with the region you want to test:

Epic’s documented approach uses Network Utility: open its Ping tab, enter the hostname for the region, and run a 50-ping test. Apple’s included utilities and interface can differ across macOS releases, so the exact route may not match every version.

What to try when Fortnite ping is high
First compare the live overlay across matches and check whether packet loss is present. Then work through likely causes; restarting Fortnite alone is not guaranteed to change the route between your ISP and a game server.
- Check Epic service status. If the service is having an issue, local network changes may not help.
- Try Ethernet. A wired connection can eliminate Wi-Fi interference and weak-signal problems, but will not fix ISP routing or distance to a data center.
- Restart your modem and router. If you suspect failing equipment, test with another router or, where your setup allows, connect directly to the modem.
- Improve Wi-Fi conditions. Place the router higher, centrally, and away from obstructions. Test both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz: 2.4 GHz generally reaches farther but can be more congested, while 5 GHz can be less congested but has shorter range.
- Update router firmware. Follow the router maker’s instructions for your model.
- Contact your ISP if the issue persists. High latency or packet loss on external tests can point to routing or network congestion beyond your home. Epic identifies ISP routing, internet-exchange congestion, Wi-Fi interference, router issues, and distance from the selected data center as possible causes; see its latency troubleshooting guidance.
A sudden change after a Fortnite update does not by itself prove that the update caused the problem. A different matchmaking region, ISP routing change, temporary server conditions, or local congestion can also change the result. Epic’s latency overview discusses routing, regional endpoints, and connection measures.
Epic’s -limitclientticks option appears in its packet-loss troubleshooting for PC. It is not a general ping-lowering command and is not a console setting; follow Epic’s PC-specific instructions if you are troubleshooting packet loss on PC.
