If Dark Deity 2 closes, freezes, or crashes at the same point on Nintendo Switch, start with Nintendo’s safe troubleshooting steps: restart the console, update the system and game, check the game for corrupt data, then reinstall it to system memory if needed. There is no confirmed universal Switch-specific cause or fix in the available evidence. A crash tied to one save, chapter, or action may need a different approach from crashes affecting several games.
First, identify the kind of crash
Note what happens and when. The game may return to the HOME Menu, show “The software was closed because an error occurred,” freeze during a battle or animation, hang while loading, or stop responding with the console. It may also fail only on one save, after one action, or when installed on a microSD card. Those symptoms do not all point to the same cause.
- If other games also crash, investigate the console, system software, or storage.
- If only Dark Deity 2 crashes, begin with its update, software-data check, and installation.
- If the crash follows one save or a repeatable action, preserve that save and test another before considering any data changes.
Restart the Switch
For a normal restart, hold the console’s POWER button for at least three seconds, choose Power Options, then Restart. If the console is frozen and will not respond, Nintendo’s unexpected-closure guidance says to hold POWER for about 12 seconds to force it off, then turn it on again. A forced shutdown is a recovery step, not a guaranteed fix; avoid doing it while the game is saving if possible. Restarting does not delete save data. Update the system and game
Install any available system update
- Open System Settings.
- Select System, then System Update.
- Install an available update and restart the console.
Check for a game update
- Highlight Dark Deity 2 on the HOME Menu without launching it.
- Press + or −.
- Choose Software Update, then Via the Internet.
Nintendo recommends checking for both system and software updates when a game closes unexpectedly. No current Switch version number or Switch-specific patch fixing these crashes is established here. The version 1.04 mentioned in the developer’s bug thread is for the PC discussion and should not be treated as the Switch version. Check the game for corrupt data
- Open System Settings.
- Select Data Management, then Manage Software.
- Select Dark Deity 2 and choose Check for Corrupt Data.
Update the console first if it is not current. If the system finds corrupt data, follow its instructions to redownload the software. A clean scan does not rule out every incomplete installation or game-code bug, so continue to the next step if crashes persist. Nintendo documents the check in its corrupt-data instructions.
Reinstall the game to system memory
For a digital copy, deleting the installed software and downloading it again can address damaged or incomplete game files. Nintendo recommends trying the redownload with the microSD card removed and installing to system memory.

- Power the Switch off completely before removing the microSD card.
- For a digital copy, open System Settings → Data Management → Manage Software → Dark Deity 2 → Delete Software.
- Redownload the game using the Nintendo Account that purchased it, choosing system memory if prompted.
- Launch and test it before putting the microSD card back in.
Delete Software removes the installed game, not its save data. Do not choose a save-data deletion option as part of this reinstall. The process takes download time and storage space, and it cannot fix a repeatable bug in the game itself. Nintendo’s closure guide recommends the microSD-removed, system-memory redownload. Its storage troubleshooting page also describes trying system memory or another compatible card when software will not start or redownload correctly.
Use the crash pattern to narrow the cause

This is a diagnostic guide, not confirmation of a particular cause. A new game running normally while one existing save fails implicates that save or the sequence it reaches, but does not prove the save itself is damaged. If a particular action keeps causing the crash
The developer’s pinned PC bug thread includes player reports of crashes after the Jump action in Chapter 8, with Storm Rider/Galeforce, and around unit movement or animation states. The developer acknowledged some reports and said related issues were being investigated. These are PC reports; they do not establish that the same triggers occur on Switch or that a specific Switch fix exists. Read the developer’s bug-report thread.
If your Switch crash is repeatable, try loading an earlier save and, if the game supports multiple save slots, preserve a separate slot before testing. You can try moving a different unit first or temporarily avoiding the triggering action, but treat that only as a workaround to test—not a verified fix. Record the chapter or map, unit, action or ability, whether the crash repeats, and what changed when you tried another sequence.

Test save data carefully
If another save or a new game runs, the original save or the game state it reaches may be involved. If every save fails at launch, focus instead on updates, corrupt-data checks, and reinstalling. Do not delete the affected save as a first troubleshooting step.
Dark Deity 2 is listed on Nintendo’s store as supporting Save Data Cloud. A restore is useful only if a backup exists and the account has the required active Nintendo Switch Online membership. Check for a suitable backup before restoring: an older backup can replace newer progress. Physical-copy owners: check the game card
Update the system and game, restart the console, then power it off before removing and reinserting the game card. Test the cartridge again and see whether downloaded software runs normally. Reinstalling a digital copy is not a remedy for a defective cartridge. If the card remains unreadable while other software works, contact Nintendo or the retailer or publisher about service or replacement options.
Leave console initialization for last
Nintendo includes Initialize Console Without Deleting Save Data in its troubleshooting sequence if earlier steps fail. It is not a first-line fix. Nintendo says this option preserves save data, but software on the microSD card becomes unusable until it is downloaded again. Read the console’s on-screen explanation carefully before proceeding and do not select an option that deletes save data. Nintendo’s closure guide explains the maintenance-mode option.
When to contact support
Contact Nintendo if multiple games crash, the console is unstable outside Dark Deity 2, the game still fails after reinstalling to system memory, the console cannot update or redownload software, or a physical game card is repeatedly not recognized. Repeated freezes or unusual heat are also reasons to seek support rather than keep forcing shutdowns. Nintendo advises contacting support when its unexpected-closure steps do not solve the problem. For a crash tied to one chapter or action, report it to the game’s developer or publisher with the chapter, unit, action, reproduction steps, Switch model, digital or physical edition, software version shown on your console if available, and any error message. This detail helps distinguish a reproducible game issue from a broader system or storage fault.
Nintendo lists Dark Deity 2 for Switch with a September 4, 2025 release date, approximately 704 MB download size, handheld, tabletop, and TV modes, and Switch 2 compatibility with behavior consistent with the Switch version.
