If Roblox says, “You have been kicked due to unexpected client behavior. (Error Code: 268),” first check Roblox Status. If there is no active incident, test another experience and network, close software that may interfere with Roblox, then follow the fix for your device. Error 268 is not, by itself, proof of a permanent account ban.
What Roblox Error Code 268 means
Roblox describes Error 268 as a kick for “unexpected client behavior.” Its official troubleshooting guidance points to a connection problem between the client and Roblox servers or a conflict with another application, including antivirus software or programs that interfere with Roblox permissions. The message alone does not establish that your account has been permanently banned.
Other Roblox messages refer to different problems. Error 267 or 600 may relate to moderation in an experience or on an account; Errors 277 and 279 are other connection or joining issues; Error 280 can indicate an outdated Roblox client. Check the exact number rather than applying a fix for a different error. Roblox lists these separately in its error-code guide.
Check Roblox Status before changing your device
Open Roblox Status and review Games, Game Join, Player, Website, and Mobile App. If a relevant incident is active, wait for Roblox to report recovery and try again before deleting app data or changing security settings. Status changes over time, so check the live page rather than relying on an older report. Roblox also recommends checking service status when experiences will not load or the platform behaves abnormally: What happens when Roblox is down.

Run a few quick, controlled tests
Note when and where the kick happens
Before changing settings, record your device and operating system, the exact error text, whether it occurs in every experience or just one, and whether it appears immediately or after a while. Note recent Roblox or system updates and newly installed VPNs, antivirus tools, overlays, macros, or tuning utilities. Also check whether another device on the same Wi-Fi has the same problem.
Restart Roblox and your device
- Close Roblox completely, reopen it, and retry the same experience.
- Restart your computer, phone, tablet, or Chromebook.
- On a phone or tablet, force-close Roblox before reopening it.
Roblox specifically recommends restarting or force-closing its app on iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire OS as part of its Error 268 guidance.
Try another experience
Join a few different experiences. If only one experience triggers the error, the problem may be limited to that experience or its server. If several unrelated experiences fail, continue with the network and device checks.
Check device date and time
On iPhone, iPad, Android, Fire OS, or ChromeOS, confirm the date, time, and time zone are correct; automatic date and time is a useful setting to test. Roblox includes this check in its guidance for these platforms. Incorrect time can interfere with secure connections or synchronization, but it is only one possible cause.

Find out whether the network is the problem
Try Roblox on a different Wi-Fi network, a wired connection, or a phone hotspot. If possible, also test another device on the original network.
- Roblox works on another network: The original router, ISP, network filtering, DNS path, or connection configuration may be involved. If the result is consistent, contact your internet provider.
- Several devices fail only on the same network: Focus on that network rather than reinstalling Roblox on every device.
- One device fails on different networks while others work: Focus on that device’s installation, permissions, security software, or background applications.
- Devices fail across unrelated networks: Check Roblox Status again; if services are operational, an account-specific or broader issue may need Roblox Support.
A fast speed-test result does not rule out routing problems, packet loss, filtering, unstable Wi-Fi, or other connection faults. Trying a different network is a more useful comparison. Roblox also recommends testing another internet source in its Error 268 instructions.
A VPN is not a guaranteed fix. It can change the network route and help isolate a route-related problem, but it may add latency or create authentication and software conflicts. A change in results with a VPN does not show that Roblox requires one or that your account was banned.
Close software that may conflict with Roblox
Temporarily close nonessential programs that interact with games, network traffic, input, or the Roblox process. Consider VPNs and proxies, third-party antivirus or firewall tools, game overlays, hardware-monitoring or system-tuning utilities, macros, input-remapping or virtual-input tools, and screen overlays. Roblox identifies antivirus and other third-party applications as possible sources of conflicts; that does not mean every such program causes Error 268.

- Check your security product’s block or quarantine history to see whether it stopped a Roblox file.
- If you briefly pause protection to test, restore it as soon as the test is complete.
- If Roblox was blocked, use the security vendor’s normal allow-list procedure rather than leaving protection off.
- Remove unauthorized executors, modified clients, injectors, or similar tools instead of trying to bypass detection.
Do not download an “Error 268 fixer,” DLL, spoofer, registry cleaner, or unofficial Roblox client. These can expose your account or device to malware and may create further problems. Claims that Error 268 always means an HWID ban, or that an HWID spoofer fixes it, are not established by Roblox’s documentation.
Clean-reinstall Roblox on Windows
A basic uninstall may leave local Roblox data behind. Roblox’s Error 268 instructions pair uninstalling with clearing the local Roblox folder, restarting the PC, and reinstalling. Follow the steps for your Windows version.
Windows 10 and earlier
- Open Start → Settings → Apps (or Apps & features), select Roblox, and choose Uninstall.
- Press Win + R, type
CMD, and press Enter to open Command Prompt. - Run
cd AppDataLocal, then runrmdir /s Roblox. - When asked to confirm, enter
y. The command removes the Roblox folder in the current user’s Local AppData directory. Verify that you are in that directory before confirming. - Restart the PC, then reinstall Roblox from an official Roblox source.
Windows 11
- Open Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features, select Roblox, and uninstall it.
- Use Win + R, enter
CMD, and runcd AppDataLocalfollowed byrmdir /s Roblox. - Verify the folder location and enter
yat the deletion prompt. - Restart the PC and reinstall Roblox from an official source.
After reinstalling, sign in normally and test before reopening overlays, VPNs, or tuning utilities. Avoid registry cleaners and commands from unofficial videos or download sites.
Test the other official Windows app if needed
The Microsoft Store has a newer app named Roblox – Windows; the older listing is named Roblox. Roblox distinguishes the newer app by a blue icon and the older one by a light-gray icon. If one official Windows client keeps failing, testing the other can help determine whether the installation or distribution channel is involved, but it is not a guaranteed Error 268 cure. Roblox advises confirming the new app works before uninstalling the old one. Fix Error 268 on Mac
- Remove Roblox by moving the app to Trash or using the standard macOS app-removal method.
- Reinstall it from an official Roblox source.
- Open Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security and check whether macOS has blocked or denied Roblox access. Older macOS versions may label this area System Preferences; available settings vary by release.
- Retry Roblox, then test another internet connection if the error remains.
Roblox’s current Error 268 guidance lists macOS 10.13 High Sierra and later, but compatibility can change; check Roblox’s current requirements for your Mac.

- Restart the device and force-close Roblox.
- Delete Roblox, then reinstall it from the App Store.
- Check that Date & Time is correct; automatic time is a useful setting to try.
- Test another Wi-Fi network or hotspot.
Roblox’s Error 268 article lists iOS 12 and above, but that is not a guarantee of current compatibility. Check the live App Store listing for your device.
Fix Error 268 on Android
- Restart the device.
- Open the device’s app settings, select Roblox, and choose Force stop (wording varies by Android version).
- Uninstall Roblox and reinstall it from Google Play.
- Check automatic date and time, then try a different network.
Roblox’s published instructions list Android OS 6 and above; check the current Google Play listing for your device. Clearing cache and clearing storage are different: clearing storage can sign you out and reset app settings. Roblox’s Error 268 instructions recommend reinstalling rather than relying on a generic cache-clearing step.
Fix Error 268 on Amazon Fire tablets
- Open Settings → Apps & Games → Manage All Applications → Roblox, then choose Force Stop. Menu labels can vary by Fire OS version.
- Restart the tablet, uninstall Roblox, and reinstall it from the Amazon Store.
- Check date and time, then test another internet connection.
Roblox’s current guidance names Fire 7 ninth generation and later, Fire HD 8 eighth generation and later, Fire HD 10 ninth generation and later, and Fire Max 11 thirteenth generation and later. These model cutoffs may change; check the current Roblox listing for your device.

Fix Error 268 on a Chromebook
- Update ChromeOS, then close Roblox. If needed, use ChromeOS Task Manager to end it.
- Sign out or shut down and restart the Chromebook.
- Remove Roblox from the launcher and reinstall it through Google Play.
- Check date and time, then test another network.
Roblox lists ChromeOS version 53 and above in its current Error 268 guidance. That historical support boundary does not guarantee that every older Chromebook can run Roblox today; check current device and app compatibility.
What to do on PlayStation or Xbox
Roblox’s Error 268 article does not give a comparable, dedicated PlayStation or Xbox procedure. On a console, fully close and relaunch Roblox, restart the console, check Roblox Status, install available console and Roblox updates, and test another network. If the problem appears limited to that console, reinstall Roblox; do not apply Windows commands or app-data steps to a console.
When to contact Roblox Support
If the error persists across experiences after you have checked service status, tested another network, and tried the relevant device steps, contact Roblox Support. Include your username, device and operating-system version, exact error text and code, the experiences affected, when the problem began, whether it happens on other networks or devices, and the steps you already tried. Roblox asks support requests to identify the affected device and describe the problem clearly.
