Best TV for the Wii: 5 Picks and How to Connect Your Console

The Wii outputs up to 480p, so the right connection and signal handling matter more than a TV’s 4K or refresh-rate specs. Compare five picks and learn how to connect it.

The best TV for a Wii depends less on 4K or refresh rate than on how cleanly it accepts and displays the console’s 480i or 480p signal. For a modern all-purpose TV, the LG OLED evo C6 is a strong premium candidate; the TCL QM7K is a value-minded Mini-LED alternative. Neither makes Wii games high-definition: use a Wii component cable and, for an HDMI-only TV, a capable converter or scaler. If authentic older-console image behavior matters most, consider a suitable CRT or older 480p-capable plasma instead.

This guide covers US models and product information available in 2026. Exact performance with Wii signals varies by TV size, model, firmware, input and converter, so verify 480p and 480i handling for the exact setup before buying.

Quick picks: which TV is right for your Wii?

Pick Best for Display Wii connection Main trade-off
LG OLED evo C6 Premium mixed-use TV OLED Component cable to a quality HDMI scaler or converter; check exact model inputs Cost, and OLED is not a Wii-specific upgrade
TCL QM7K or current QM7-series equivalent Bright rooms and value-minded mixed use Mini-LED LCD Component cable to a quality HDMI scaler or converter Verify how the exact set handles 480i and 480p
Sony BRAVIA 5 or comparable BRAVIA LCD Buyers interested in older-source processing LCD Verify inputs and signal handling; use a scaler if needed Its Wii processing advantage is not established for every model
Samsung S90F Premium OLED for Wii and modern gaming OLED Component cable to a quality HDMI converter or scaler No simple native component connection on current OLED models; verify the chain
A suitable CRT or older 480p plasma Period-appropriate retro play CRT or plasma Match the cable and signal to the exact display Used condition, size, weight and compatibility vary

If your existing television already accepts the Wii cleanly, a new TV bought only for this console is rarely the sensible first upgrade. Start with the signal path: component video can enable 480p, while a good scaler can help an HDMI-only set handle the analog signal.

What the Wii sends to a TV

The Wii does not output 720p, 1080p or 4K. Its EDTV/HDTV setting is 480p, and Nintendo says that mode requires a Wii Component Video Cable. Not all games support progressive scan, so some games and menus may still use 480i. Composite video normally carries an interlaced signal—480i in the US—rather than unlocking 480p. Nintendo’s 480p guidance explains the component-cable requirement and game limitation.

Wii Console Bundle (White) with Wii Play Game (2 Players) -Smart TV Ready (Renewed)
  • Includes: Wii console (white), console stand, 2 genuine Wii remotes with silicone sleeve and safety strap, 2 nunchuks, AV cables, AC adapter, sensor bar, HDMI adatper for modern TVs. Choose your option for 1 or 2 sets of controllers.
  • Wii Play Game: 9 Classic Mini-Games Enjoy fan favorites like Tanks!, Table Tennis, and Fishing.
  • Fully cleaned, inspected and tested for proper operation. Ships with all necessary cables and accessories — just plug in and play.
  • Note on Online Features – Support has been discontinued for online play, WiiConnect24, and other internet-based services. All included games function fully offline and do not require internet connectivity.

Games may present in 4:3 or 16:9. A widescreen TV cannot correct an incorrectly configured image automatically: a 4:3 picture may be stretched, pillarboxed, cropped or overscanned depending on the console and TV settings. Upscaling enlarges the Wii’s existing picture; it cannot restore detail that the console never produced.

What matters when choosing a Wii TV

Signal compatibility and input lag

  • Accepts 480p: Check that the TV or converter accepts the Wii’s progressive signal. Native component input is convenient but increasingly uncommon; an HDMI-only set can work through a suitable scaler.
  • Handles 480i reasonably: A set that looks acceptable with 480p may deinterlace 480i games less well. Check both modes where possible.
  • Game Mode: Enable it to reduce display processing delay. Motion smoothing and other processing can add delay and should generally be disabled for play.
  • Image framing: Look for a way to disable overscan or select a screen-fit mode, and make sure 4:3 games retain their intended proportions.

RTINGS’ comparison tool includes fields for input lag, supported resolutions, low-quality-content processing, upscaling and gaming responsiveness; use the exact model rather than assuming results transfer across a product family: RTINGS TV comparison tool.

Secondary considerations

  • Screen size and viewing distance affect how noticeable softness and jagged edges are.
  • Bright rooms generally favor a bright LCD or Mini-LED; OLED is attractive in darker rooms for contrast, but static menus and HUDs make it sensible to avoid leaving a fixed Wii image on screen for long periods.
  • Count HDMI inputs if the TV will also serve a scaler, streaming device and newer consoles.
  • 4K resolution, 120Hz or higher refresh rates, VRR, HDMI 2.1 and HDR may be valuable for other devices, but they do not improve the Wii’s native output by themselves.

Modern gaming-TV lists tend to emphasize current consoles’ 4K, high refresh and HDR needs. Those are not a Wii-specific ranking; the useful question is how the full TV-and-converter chain treats an older signal. See RTINGS’ gaming TV coverage for modern gaming priorities.

Rank #2
Nintendo Wii Console, White Premium Bundle (Renewed)
  • Controllers are original OEM (not 3rd party)
  • Tested and works well. Nice condition

The five picks

1. LG OLED evo C6: best premium modern all-purpose candidate

The 2026 C6 is a premium OLED choice for someone who wants one TV for Wii, streaming and newer consoles, especially in a smaller room where a 42- or 48-inch set is useful. OLED contrast and fast response can suit games in a dim room, but neither property removes the Wii’s low-resolution softness. A clean scaler matters at least as much as the panel technology.

LG’s US OLED range lists the C6 family, including a 42-inch model; the product page displayed US prices of $1,299.99 for the 42-inch and $1,999.99 for the 65-inch during the 2026 listing period. Those are changeable displayed prices, not guaranteed current offers. LG’s 2026 announcement gave a $1,399 starting MSRP and said availability began in March 2026. See LG’s OLED TV listings and LG’s 2026 OLED announcement.

  • Connect the Wii: Use component cable into a quality component-to-HDMI scaler or converter; confirm the exact C6 model’s inputs and the converter’s 480i/480p support.
  • Trade-offs: It is expensive for a Wii-only setup, and OLED can make scaling artifacts conspicuous. Avoid leaving static menus or HUDs displayed for extended periods.
  • Best fit: Buyers seeking a premium general-purpose TV, not a guaranteed best-in-class Wii scaler.

2. TCL QM7K or current QM7-series equivalent: best value-minded modern candidate

The QM7K is a QD-Mini LED 4K TV with Google TV and four HDMI inputs, one with eARC, according to TCL’s US product listing. Its bright-room suitability and modern gaming features make it a plausible mixed-use choice at a lower tier than premium OLEDs. Those specifications do not establish how well it deinterlaces 480i or scales Wii video, so check the exact model and firmware before purchase.

Wii Console Bundle (Black) with Wii Play Game (2 Players) -Smart TV Ready (Renewed)
  • Includes: Wii console (black), console stand, 2 genuine Wii remotes with silicone sleeve and safety strap, 2 nunchuks, AV cables, AC adapter, sensor bar, HDMI adatper for modern TVs. Choose your option for 1 or 2 sets of controllers.
  • Wii Play Game: 9 Classic Mini-Games Enjoy fan favorites like Tanks!, Table Tennis, and Fishing.
  • Fully cleaned, tested, and guaranteed to work. Ships with all necessary cables and accessories — just plug in and play.
  • Note on Online Features – Support has been discontinued for online play, WiiConnect24, and other internet-based services. All included games function fully offline and do not require internet connectivity.

TCL’s product details are at the QM7K series page. Consumer Reports’ 2026 buying guide lists a $1,000 reference price for the 55-inch QM7K; that is a guide reference, not a live retail price: Consumer Reports 2026 buying guide.

  • Connect the Wii: Use component video into a capable HDMI converter or scaler, then select Game Mode.
  • Trade-offs: Do not assume the image processor will make 480i games clean or turn Wii graphics into HD.
  • Best fit: A bright family room and a household that will also use the screen for current devices.

3. Sony BRAVIA 5 or comparable BRAVIA LCD: processing-focused candidate

Sony BRAVIA models are worth considering if the TV will also display DVDs, broadcast content and other older sources. That makes BRAVIA 5 a candidate to investigate, not a proven Wii specialist: the available editorial listing includes it among TVs to consider, but does not establish its exact Wii scaling or deinterlacing performance. What Hi-Fi?’s TV roundup is a starting point for the model, not evidence of Wii-specific measurements.

  • Connect the Wii: Confirm the exact size and US model’s analog inputs and 480p acceptance. For HDMI-only configurations, route component video through a suitable scaler.
  • Trade-offs: Do not buy on a blanket promise that Sony processing is better or will remove Wii blur. Confirm 480i behavior and Game Mode lag for the exact set.
  • Best fit: Buyers who value a general-purpose TV for a mix of older and newer content and can verify the signal path before committing.

4. Samsung S90F: premium OLED for mixed gaming

The S90F is a 2025 4K OLED model. Samsung advertises up to 165Hz motion technology and OLED HDR Pro on its US listing. Those features are aimed at modern sources, not the Wii’s low-resolution signal, but the set may appeal to someone who wants one premium display for Wii, current consoles and movies. Samsung’s S90F product page describes the model and features.

PORTHOLIC Wii to HDMI Converter 1080P for Full HD Device, Wii HDMI Adapter with 3,5mm Audio Jack&HDMI Output Compatible with Wii, Wii U, HDTV, Monitor-Supports All Wii Display Modes 720P, NTS
  • Buy with Confidence: If you receive a defective one (like wavy lines, no sound/picture) or you have any problems with the adapter, please contact us in the first place to get efficient customer service for replacement or other assistance.
  • NOTE: Some devices’ auto-setting of screen resolution is 480i instead of 480p, which may not support games at 240p/480i over HDMI. If you switch to 480p mode they may work over HDMI. it can't be connected to the switch/splitter, only connect directly to the TV, monitor, projector. This adapter not support for Wii Mini
  • Extra Audio Jack: Although HDMI output provides audio output, an extra 3.5mm audio jack allows you to connect a speaker or headphone. Even the night owls can enjoy playing in the midnight and no need to worry about disturbing others.
  • Plug and Play: Super easy to operate. No setting and no need to install the drivers. Just simply hook it up the Wii and plug the HDMI directly into the monitor and BOOM enjoying the games with optimal viewing.
  • Small in Size: PORTHOLIC Wii to HDMI Adapter with size of 6 x 3 x 1.9cm. Small but powerful. It does not occupy any space on your table by hooking up the back of Wii. No more tangling cords, just one cable.
  • Connect the Wii: Plan on component cable plus a compatible HDMI converter or scaler; verify the adapter path for 480i games as well as 480p.
  • Trade-offs: High refresh rate does not improve Wii output. Consider the same static-image and bright-room trade-offs that apply to OLED generally.
  • Best fit: A premium modern-gaming and movie display where Wii is one of several uses.

5. A suitable CRT or older 480p plasma: best authentic retro direction

A CRT or older plasma can be the right choice when you care more about period-appropriate image behavior than convenience, warranty or modern features. CRTs display older interlaced signals without the same flat-panel scaling pipeline, while a compatible 16:9 EDTV or plasma can be appealing for Wii games designed around 480p widescreen. These are broad display categories, not interchangeable guarantees: standard-definition CRTs, HD CRTs, EDTV plasmas and PC CRT monitors accept different modes and connections.

  • Before buying used: Check geometry, convergence, color uniformity, input condition, burn-in where relevant and service history. Ask to see the display running the signal you intend to use.
  • Trade-offs: CRTs can be heavy, large, power-hungry and in need of repair; used availability and pricing are inconsistent. Not every CRT accepts every Wii mode, and lag or light-gun compatibility depends on the display and game.
  • Best fit: Retro-focused players willing to inspect used hardware and match the Wii’s signal to the particular display.

Community discussions describe differing experiences across Wii, CRT, plasma and modern displays; treat those as owner anecdotes rather than controlled measurements: Wii picture discussion and CRT and console discussion.

How to connect the Wii for the best picture

With a TV that has component inputs

  1. Connect a Wii component cable to the Wii.
  2. Connect the green video plug to Y, blue to Pb and red to Pr. Connect the red and white audio plugs to the matching audio inputs.
  3. Select the TV’s component input. Nintendo’s component-cable connection guide shows the connection and input-selection process.
  4. On the Wii, open Wii Options → Wii Settings → Screen → TV Resolution.
  5. Select EDTV or HDTV (480p) if available. If the option is unavailable, confirm that the component cable is connected; not all games support progressive scan.
  6. Set Widescreen Settings to match your TV and preference, then check that 4:3 games are not stretched.
  7. Enable the television’s Game Mode and disable unwanted motion processing.

With an HDMI-only TV

Use the chain Wii component cable → component-to-HDMI converter or scaler → TV HDMI input. A basic converter is convenient, but quality varies in scaling, deinterlacing, sharpness, audio reliability and added delay. Check specifically for 480i as well as 480p, since a Wii game that does not support progressive scan can expose weak deinterlacing.

For enthusiasts who want a dedicated processor for analog consoles, RetroTINK’s 5X Pro is designed to process retro-console signals for modern displays. RetroTINK’s category page listed the 5X Pro at $325 and the 4K Pro at $750 on August 18, 2026; prices and stock may change. The 4K Pro is difficult to justify for a Wii-only setup. See the RetroTINK-5X Pro page and RetroTINK processor category.

Fixing common connection problems

  • Black-and-white picture or no image: Check that the three video plugs are in Y/Pb/Pr component sockets, not a shared composite jack or mismatched inputs. Some TVs use a shared or unusual socket arrangement; see Nintendo’s guidance for TVs without an obvious yellow input.
  • 480p is missing from the Wii menu: Confirm the component cable is connected at the console and TV or converter. Composite alone does not unlock the 480p setting.
  • Image looks stretched: Check the Wii’s Widescreen Settings and the TV’s aspect ratio or screen-fit controls. Use 4:3 for games that do not present in widescreen rather than stretching the picture.
  • Image is soft, jagged or delayed: Test Game Mode, disable extra processing, and compare the converter’s output with another input path if available. A different scaler can improve or worsen the result; conversion is not automatically an upgrade.

Should you buy a TV, converter or scaler?

Option Choose it when What to expect
Use an existing TV It already accepts the Wii and looks acceptable Lowest-cost path; a component cable may be the useful upgrade if the set supports it
TV with native component input You want the simplest direct connection and have found a suitable model One less conversion stage, though older TVs may be used-market purchases and still vary in processing
Basic component-to-HDMI converter You need an economical HDMI connection and can confirm 480i/480p support Convenient, but quality and latency vary by model
Dedicated scaler You own several analog consoles or want more control over retro signals Can provide better processing options; price and performance depend on the product and setup
New premium TV You also need a modern display for streaming, movies or current consoles Choose for those uses too; a higher-end panel does not guarantee better Wii handling

For light-gun games, do not assume that a modern panel and converter chain will behave like a CRT. Confirm compatibility with the specific game and equipment; a traditional CRT is the safer direction if light-gun play is a priority.
