Uplay is now Ubisoft Connect, so a “Uplay login error” can mean an account problem, a launcher fault, a network block, or a game-ownership mismatch. Start by checking Ubisoft’s service status, then try the same sign-in at Ubisoft Account Management. If the browser works but the launcher does not, focus on Ubisoft Connect and your PC—not your password or game installation.
Start with these checks
- Check service status. Look up the affected game or service on Ubisoft’s service-status page. A game-specific page does not establish that every Ubisoft account or launcher service is working. If the relevant service is reported as unavailable, wait and check again instead of repeatedly resetting your password or reinstalling software.
- Test your account in a browser. Open Account Management in a private or incognito window and enter your credentials manually. This separates account access from a problem with the desktop client.
- Restart the affected device and Ubisoft Connect. On a PC, fully exit the launcher, including from the Windows notification area, then reopen it. On a console, restart the console and try the game’s sign-in flow again.
- Try another network if practical. A temporary test on a phone hotspot can help distinguish a home-network issue from an account or service issue.
Ubisoft Connect is the successor to Uplay and Ubisoft Club, announced in 2020. Use current Ubisoft Connect instructions rather than assuming old Uplay menu names or folder paths still apply. Ubisoft describes Connect as a free service; some content or features require an account, an internet connection, and the client, and requirements vary by game. Ubisoft’s announcement and its Connect overview explain the service and note that features such as cross-play and cross-progression vary by game and platform.
Use the browser test to identify the problem
- Browser and launcher both reject sign-in: Check service status, credentials, two-step verification, and account access.
- Browser works but Ubisoft Connect fails: Suspect the launcher, its cached sign-in data, local security software, or network configuration.
- Both sign-ins work but one game fails: Check which Ubisoft account owns or is linked to the game, then look for a game-specific service or installation issue.
This test helps avoid resetting a working password or reinstalling a game when the fault is elsewhere.
If Ubisoft Connect rejects your password
- Enter the Ubisoft account’s email and password manually. Check Caps Lock and keyboard layout.
- Make sure you are not entering the password for Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation, or Xbox. Those platform credentials are separate from your Ubisoft account.
- If the same credentials fail in Account Management, use Ubisoft’s official password-reset process and complete it from the email address associated with the account.
- After resetting, verify the new password in a private browser window before trying Ubisoft Connect again. Sign out of old sessions if the account page or reset flow offers that option.
Do not create a second Ubisoft account just because you cannot sign in: a game entitlement or platform link may belong to the original account. Ubisoft’s privacy policy describes account information and password management. For account help, use Ubisoft Help or the official contact page, not third-party recovery services.

If two-step verification does not work
- Authenticator code rejected or expired: Set the device’s date, time, and time zone automatically, sync the clock, wait for a fresh code, and enter it promptly. Check that the authenticator is generating codes for the correct Ubisoft account.
- Verification email missing: Check spam, junk, promotions, and any quarantine folder, and confirm you are checking the account’s associated email address.
- Phone or authenticator replaced, recovery codes unavailable, or email inaccessible: Use Ubisoft’s official account-recovery or support process. Repeatedly guessing codes is unlikely to help.
- Ubisoft requests additional verification: Follow the official account process. Do not give a password, 2FA code, or recovery code to anyone claiming they can recover the account.
Ubisoft recommends two-factor authentication and describes additional protective measures in its privacy policy and terms of use. Ubisoft says it will not ask users to reveal their passwords.
If the browser works but the launcher shows a blank window or login loop
- Exit Ubisoft Connect fully. If it remains running, close it from the Windows notification area. If necessary, use Task Manager to end Ubisoft Connect or Ubisoft Game Launcher processes that are still active.
- Restart the computer and launch Ubisoft Connect again.
- Check for a current client update or reinstall the client from Ubisoft’s official download page.
- If the issue persists, check whether a proxy, firewall, antivirus web-protection feature, or HTTPS inspection is interfering with the sign-in window. Make only temporary, controlled changes; restore security protections after testing.
Clear the client cache cautiously
A damaged client cache can contribute to launcher-only sign-in failures, but the correct cache location can vary, and an old Uplay path may not match your Ubisoft Connect installation. Close the client first and follow current Ubisoft instructions for your installed version. If you identify a cache folder through those instructions, renaming it is safer than immediately deleting it: the launcher can rebuild its cache when reopened, and you can restore the folder if needed. Do not remove game-installation or saved-game folders. You may need to sign in again.

Check the network, security settings, and clock
- VPN or proxy: Disconnect a VPN or disable a manually configured proxy temporarily to test the normal connection. A VPN is not a general fix and must not be used to bypass regional restrictions; Ubisoft’s terms address use of proxies and VPNs to circumvent regional restrictions.
- Different network: If Ubisoft Connect works on a hotspot but not home Wi-Fi, investigate the router, DNS, ISP filtering, firewall, or network controls. Restarting the router is a reasonable first step.
- Firewall or antivirus: Check that Ubisoft Connect is allowed through Windows Firewall and whether antivirus web protection is blocking the sign-in flow. Avoid leaving protections disabled; restore them after the test.
- DNS: Consider DNS only after restarting the router and testing another network. In Windows,
ipconfig /flushdnsclears the DNS resolver cache. It does not clear Ubisoft Connect’s application cache or fix a wrong password, failed 2FA, account restriction, or Ubisoft outage. If you test different DNS settings and see no improvement, restore the original settings. - System time: Set date, time, and time zone automatically, then use Windows’ “Sync now” option and restart Ubisoft Connect. This is especially relevant to time-based authentication codes, but it will not resolve every login failure.
Do not download unofficial “Ubisoft login fix” tools. If a work, school, hotel, or parental-control network is involved, its filtering may prevent sign-in; an administrator or a test on another permitted network can help identify that cause.
If a game says it cannot verify ownership
“There was a problem authenticating the ownership of this product” is not necessarily a password error. It can indicate a service or offline-authentication problem, stale client data, or that the game is associated with a different Ubisoft account than the one currently signed in.

- Check that you are signed into the Ubisoft account originally used when the game was activated, and look for the game in that account’s library.
- If the game was purchased through Steam or Epic, remember that the storefront account and Ubisoft account are separate. The game may start through Steam or Epic but still require Ubisoft Connect.
- Check the relevant Ubisoft service status, then sign out and back in and restart Ubisoft Connect.
- If the issue affects only one game, consult that game’s official support route. Do not unlink platform accounts or create another Ubisoft account as a first step; either can make ownership harder to resolve.
Ubisoft’s privacy policy recognizes third-party platform credentials and partners, including Steam, Sony, and Microsoft, in connection with Ubisoft services. An offline/online toggle appears in official guidance for the specialized Ubisoft Escape Games service, but that is not evidence of a universal workaround for every game; see its specific support page.
Console and storefront players: use platform-specific checks
Windows cache steps and DNS commands do not apply to a console. Restart the console, check the relevant PlayStation Network or Xbox network status, and use the game’s account flow to confirm which Ubisoft account is connected. If a Steam or Epic purchase fails, confirm the Ubisoft account used at first activation. Do not unlink accounts casually; contact Ubisoft Support if the original account cannot be accessed or the entitlement appears on the wrong account.

When to reinstall Ubisoft Connect
Reinstalling the launcher is a later step, after checking service status and browser sign-in, resolving password or 2FA problems, restarting the client, and testing likely cache or network interference. Before uninstalling, note the client’s installation location and identify game folders, saves, and configuration files you need to preserve. Download the installer only from Ubisoft’s official page. Reinstalling Ubisoft Connect is not the same as reinstalling the game; do not remove a large game installation just to troubleshoot a launcher login error.
When to contact Ubisoft Support
Use Ubisoft Help or the official contact page if password reset does not restore access, you have lost access to the account email or second-factor device, an account appears compromised or restricted, or a verified ownership problem remains.

Include the Ubisoft username, the account email if accessible, game and platform, exact error text, approximate time of failure, whether browser sign-in works, and whether another network changes the result. Provide purchase or platform details only through Ubisoft’s official process. Never put a password, 2FA code, or recovery code in a support ticket.
Ubisoft says it may suspend or restrict accounts when it suspects unauthorized access or suspicious activity; account restrictions are not something a cache reset can resolve. See Ubisoft’s terms of use for account and service conditions.
