NP-37602-8 usually appears when YouTube on PS4 cannot complete sign-in; it does not by itself show that your console or Google Account is broken. YouTube still lists PS4 and PS4 Pro as supported consoles as of August 18, 2026 (supported devices). First check whether videos play while signed out, then try the other sign-in method, restart the devices involved, and reset or reinstall the app if needed. Avoid initializing the PS4 for an isolated YouTube problem.
What NP-37602-8 means
The code is associated with a failed YouTube sign-in on PS4. In practical terms, the app has not completed the authentication transaction with YouTube. Current official guidance does not document a more precise technical definition for NP-37602-8, so it cannot identify a single cause by itself.
The error is not proof that your password is wrong, your Google Account is disabled, your PS4 is defective, or YouTube has discontinued the app. The code was widely reported during a YouTube/PS4 sign-in problem in late May and early June 2020, with users later reporting that it cleared; those historical community reports do not establish the cause of a new error today (historical community thread, another historical report).
Start with a quick diagnosis
Before changing accounts or deleting the app, find out whether the failure is limited to sign-in. YouTube documents signed-out viewing on game consoles and TV-connected devices (YouTube sign-in guidance).

- Videos play while signed out, but sign-in fails: focus on the activation flow, stored app session, Google Account verification, or a temporary YouTube-side issue.
- Videos and sign-in both fail: check the PS4 connection, app installation, system software, and service availability.
- YouTube will not open or crashes: treat it as an app or broader console problem rather than an account-only issue.
- The app says the device is unsupported or is missing: confirm the console software and current compatibility listing before troubleshooting credentials. YouTube currently lists PS4 and PS4 Pro, but support can vary with software, region, and future platform changes (supported devices, system requirements).
Also try another internet-connected PS4 app or feature. If those also fail, address the network before changing YouTube settings.
Try both YouTube sign-in methods
YouTube supports signing in with a phone or activation code, and directly with the console’s remote or controller. If one route fails, try the other rather than repeating the same attempt (sign-in methods and troubleshooting).
Phone, QR code, or activation code
- Open YouTube on the PS4 and choose Sign in.
- Choose the phone or device option if it appears. Scan the QR code, or open yt.be/activate on a phone, tablet, or computer.
- Enter the code shown on the PS4 and approve the Google Account sign-in.
If the code is rejected, request a fresh one instead of reusing an old code. Enter it only on YouTube’s official activation page, and use the Google Account email address rather than an old YouTube username. For phone-based activation, YouTube says the phone and console should be on the same Wi-Fi network; temporarily turn off mobile data so the phone does not use it instead. Restart YouTube and request another code if the flow still fails.

Sign in with the PS4 controller
- Return to YouTube’s sign-in choices and select the option to sign in with the remote or controller.
- Enter your Google Account email address and password using the on-screen keyboard.
- Complete any additional verification Google requests, using a trusted phone or computer if prompted.
Do not disable two-step verification just to make this method work. Use the verification step Google presents.

Close YouTube completely and reopen it. If sign-in still fails, restart the PS4, router, and the phone or tablet used for activation. YouTube recommends power-cycling the device, rebooting the router, and restarting the mobile device when phone-based sign-in fails (YouTube sign-in troubleshooting).
After the restart, check whether other PS4 apps can connect and whether YouTube plays while signed out. If a phone is being used to activate, confirm it is back on the same Wi-Fi as the PS4.

Reset, update, or reinstall YouTube
Reset the app first
If YouTube’s PS4 app has a Reset app option in its settings, try that before deleting it. This removes the local app session and signs you out; it does not delete your Google Account or YouTube channel. YouTube lists app reset among its console troubleshooting steps (YouTube sign-in troubleshooting).
Check for an app update
- On the PS4 home screen, highlight YouTube.
- Press the Options button and choose Check for Update, if that option is available.
- Install any update, then reopen YouTube and retry sign-in.
Menu wording can vary with the console interface. YouTube recommends using the latest app version (YouTube troubleshooting guidance).

- Highlight YouTube on the PS4 home screen and press Options.
- Choose Delete, then restart the PS4.
- Open the PlayStation Store, search for YouTube, select the app, and download it again.
Reinstalling can replace damaged local app files, but it cannot resolve a YouTube-side authentication outage. YouTube’s PlayStation download instructions begin in the PlayStation Store (download the YouTube app).

Check PS4 software and network settings
Install any pending PS4 system software update through the console’s system update area, then restart and try YouTube again. An update is a sensible compatibility check, not a guaranteed fix for NP-37602-8.
- Run the PS4 internet connection test from Settings → Network → Test Internet Connection.
- Check that the PS4 date and time are correct.
- Temporarily avoid VPNs, captive portals, restrictive firewall or parental-control rules, and custom DNS settings while diagnosing the connection.
- If practical, test with Ethernet. A phone hotspot can also be a short diagnostic, not a preferred permanent connection.
- For phone activation, keep the PS4 and phone on the same Wi-Fi network.
No specific public DNS address is established as an official fix for this code. Avoid changing several network settings at once, since that makes it harder to identify what helped.

Try signing into YouTube or Google in a browser on a phone or computer. If the account cannot sign in there either, use Google’s account-recovery and sign-in help rather than repeatedly changing PS4 settings (YouTube sign-in troubleshooter).

- Account works elsewhere, but not on PS4: the app, activation route, stored session, network path, or temporary compatibility/service conditions are more likely than a general password failure.
- Only one account fails on PS4: check verification prompts and account restrictions. If appropriate, test another account.
- Every account fails on PS4: focus on the app, console software, network, or a service-side problem.
Supervised or child accounts and school or work accounts may have extra policies or verification requirements. Do not try to bypass those controls; if possible, compare with a standard personal account. Linking a Google Account to a PlayStation account for broadcasting or sharing gameplay is separate from signing into YouTube’s PS4 app (YouTube on PlayStation).
Use a workaround if you need to watch now
Try casting from a phone
During the 2020 incident, users reported casting from the YouTube mobile app to a PS4 as a temporary workaround (historical community report). This is not a repair or a guaranteed current solution: casting depends on the PS4 app, mobile app, account state, and local network discovery. The phone and console generally need to be reachable on the same network, and casting may not provide every feature available after native sign-in.
Use another supported device
If you need immediate access or the PS4 app remains unusable, switch to another supported TV, streaming device, or console. YouTube’s device list includes categories such as PS5, Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch, Chromecast/Google TV, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, and smart TVs; check the current list for your model and region (supported devices).
When to stop troubleshooting and contact support
Contact YouTube support for an account or YouTube-app authentication problem. Contact PlayStation support if other PS4 networking, Store, or system-software features are also failing. Escalate when the account works on other devices, both sign-in methods fail, and app reset or reinstall plus restarts have not helped; also seek help if the app is missing or reports an unsupported device despite current PS4 software. Neither company is guaranteed to have a code-specific fix.

- Whether YouTube opens and plays videos while signed out.
- Whether another Google Account works on the PS4, and whether the affected account works on another device.
- Your connection type and whether other PS4 apps work online.
- The exact error text and when it appears.
Do not initialize the PS4 for this error alone
Initializing a PS4 is a destructive recovery step, not routine YouTube troubleshooting. It can erase console data and is disproportionate when only YouTube sign-in is failing. If the PS4 has broader problems, follow PlayStation’s recovery guidance, back up important data before advanced repair, and reserve initialization for situations that justify it (PlayStation error-code guidance). For an isolated NP-37602-8 error, use another device temporarily rather than repeatedly resetting the console.
