First reopen the experience page and join a fresh server. If the error appears in several unrelated experiences, check Roblox’s live status and then troubleshoot your device or connection.
What does Roblox Error Code 517 mean?
Error 517 is commonly associated with a game or server that is unavailable, has ended, or is in the process of shutting down. It may also appear when a join request points to an old session or Roblox still treats you as connected to a previous server. The message may read “This game is currently unavailable. Please try again later” or “This game has ended.” These messages and explanations are documented in community error-code references, not a dedicated current Roblox support article: Roblox Wiki’s error reference and PC Strike’s Error 517 guide.
Code 517 alone does not establish that your account is banned, your internet is broken, or the experience has been deleted. It is a clue about a failed join, not a definitive diagnosis.
Try these quick fixes first
- Wait a few minutes, then retry. A short pause can give the old session time to close. Roblox does not publish a 517-specific waiting period, so there is no guaranteed number of minutes.
- Open the experience’s main page again. Avoid repeatedly using the same old friend notification, invitation, or server link.
- Join a fresh server. Select Play on the experience page to let Roblox assign a server. If the page has a Servers section, try a different public server.
- If joining a friend, ask for a fresh invite. Confirm that the friend is still in an active server before trying again.
- Try another experience. Testing two or three unrelated games helps distinguish a single server or experience problem from a broader join problem.
Check whether Roblox or one experience is unavailable
Visit the official Roblox Status page and check the relevant components, including Games and Game Join. If Roblox reports degradation, local changes are unlikely to resolve a platform-side incident; retry after service recovers. The status page tracks Roblox services, not every individual experience server, and a newly developing problem may not appear there immediately.

If the status page shows no incident but only one experience fails, try another server in that experience. Its developers may be restarting or updating servers, or the particular join link may have expired.

If multiple experiences fail, troubleshoot in order
1. Restart Roblox and your device
Close Roblox completely, then reopen it from the official Roblox website or installed app. On Windows, if Roblox remains open in the background, use Task Manager to end the remaining Roblox processes before relaunching. If that does not help, restart the device. Roblox’s desktop troubleshooting guidance includes rebooting among its general remedies.

2. Test another trusted network
Try a different trusted connection, such as a mobile hotspot. If Roblox works there, the original network, router, DNS or filtering configuration, firewall, or security software may be involved. A VPN can change network routing, but it is not a confirmed universal cause of Error 517 and should not be your first fix.
3. Try a different browser and disable extensions
If you start Roblox from a browser, try another current browser. Temporarily disable extensions that block scripts, ads, or tracking, then test again. If that resolves the problem, re-enable extensions one at a time to identify the conflict. Roblox’s connection guidance covers browser and connection troubleshooting.

4. Clear browser cookies and cache when the browser launch flow is involved
This step is most relevant when you sign in, launch, or join through a browser link. Clear cookies and cached data in the browser you actually use, then sign in again. It may help with stale login or browser data, but it cannot reopen a server that has already ended. See Roblox’s website troubleshooting guidance.
5. Check firewall and security-software permissions
Allow the Roblox application through your firewall or security software rather than leaving protection disabled. Roblox’s firewall and router guidance identifies security software as a possible connection obstacle and notes that client ports are dynamically selected. Do not forward a broad range of router ports as a routine 517 fix; on a school, work, or managed network, ask its administrator for help.

6. Reinstall Roblox only after simpler checks fail
Reinstalling is a later step for problems across multiple experiences, a client that will not launch, or an installation that appears damaged. Close Roblox and other installers first, restart the device if practical, then install the client from the official Roblox site or your device’s official app store. Roblox’s desktop troubleshooting page includes reinstalling among general desktop remedies; it is not a guaranteed fix for an ended server.

- Contact the experience developer if the issue is limited to one game, especially when its page is available but its servers appear to be restarting or other players report the same problem.
- Contact Roblox Support if you cannot join any experience across multiple networks or devices and the problem persists without a relevant status incident. Use the Roblox Support form.
Include your username, the exact error message and code, the experience URL, device and operating system, network type, the time of the failed attempt, and the steps you tried. Roblox’s website troubleshooting guidance asks for details such as the error message, device, operating system, and reproduction steps.

How 517 differs from nearby Roblox errors
These codes can all interrupt joining, but they point to different situations. Roblox’s bug-reporting section lists some other error codes; the distinctions below are general orientation, not a substitute for checking the exact message.
- 517: commonly associated with an unavailable or ended game server or a session transition.
- 524: commonly associated with lacking permission to join a game or private server.
- 522: commonly associated with the followed player having left.
- 277 or 279: commonly associated with broader connection or game-server communication trouble.
- 280: may indicate that the client is out of date.
Avoid risky “repair” fixes
You do not need a third-party Roblox repair utility, modified client, unofficial launcher, registry cleaner, or paid VPN to address Error 517. Such tools can create account-security or malware risks. Use Roblox’s official client, status page, support resources, and your device’s official app store instead.
