Where to download Avowed for Windows PC
Avowed launched on February 18, 2025. Use one of its official PC storefronts rather than third-party download or key sites. Availability through a subscription can change by region, plan, and date.
- Xbox app: A good fit for PC Game Pass subscribers and players who want the Microsoft ecosystem. Xbox advertises Play Anywhere support for purchases made through the Xbox/Windows ecosystem. The Xbox PC app requires Windows 10 or 11, version 22H2 or higher; see Xbox on PC.
- Steam: A straightforward choice if you want Avowed in your Steam library. Steam lists achievements, Steam Cloud, trading cards, stats, and Family Sharing.
- Battle.net: An official PC option for players who prefer that launcher. Xbox describes access arrangements involving Battle.net and Xbox accounts, but check the current entitlement and account-linking prompts rather than assuming all purchases or saves transfer between stores.

Avowed is not generally free-to-play: subscription access applies only when the active plan and catalog include it. Cross-buy, account linking, and save transfer are separate questions; the available Xbox statement does not establish unrestricted progression transfer among Steam, Xbox, and Battle.net.

Actual performance also depends on laptop GPU power limits, cooling, memory configuration, drivers, background applications, resolution, upscaling, and effects such as ray tracing. Steam lists 4K support on compatible hardware, unlocked frame rates, and ray tracing; those features are not a performance guarantee.

Xbox app for Windows
- Update Windows, then open or install the Xbox app.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns Avowed or has an eligible subscription.
- Search for Avowed and select the correct purchase or subscription listing.
- Choose Install, select an SSD with at least 75 GB free, and allow the Xbox app, Microsoft Store, or Gaming Services to update if prompted.
- Launch from the Xbox app or Start menu after installation and updates finish.
If Install is unavailable, first check that the Xbox app and Microsoft Store use the intended account, the subscription is active and eligible, Windows is updated, and the title is available in your region.
Steam
- Open Steam and sign in to the account that owns the game.
- Find Avowed in the Steam Store, purchase an edition if needed, or open it from your Library.
- Select Install, choose a drive, and make sure there is at least 75 GB free plus a buffer for updates.
- Wait for Steam to download and validate the installation, then launch from the Library.
Battle.net
- Open or install the Battle.net desktop app and sign in to the account with the game entitlement.
- Find Avowed in the game list and select Install.
- Choose a destination drive with sufficient free space and let the launcher apply updates.
- If the game is missing, check that you are using the correct Battle.net account and follow the current account-linking or entitlement prompts.
What the PC version includes
Avowed is a single-player, first-person fantasy action RPG set in Eora, a setting previously introduced in the Pillars of Eternity franchise. Its campaign combines exploration of the Living Lands with combat using weapons, abilities, and magic, alongside companions, character customization, and consequential choices. It is designed around flexible combat rather than a permanently locked traditional class.

Steam’s current listing also identifies post-launch additions: New Game Plus, Photo Mode, two-handed staves, appearance changes, new character-creation presets, additional Godlike presets, custom difficulty settings, and Dwarf, Aumaua, and Orlan as additional playable races. These are current additions, not all launch-day features.
Steam lists the game as single-player and offers Steam achievements, Steam Cloud, trading cards, stats, and Family Sharing for its version. No multiplayer subscription is indicated as a requirement for the campaign.

Choose a combat direction, then adapt
Build around the style you enjoy instead of trying to upgrade every option evenly. Melee-focused players can prioritize survivability, close-range damage, and crowd control. Spell users should manage resources and keep a reliable fallback. Ranged players can preserve distance and use terrain, companions, and status effects. Hybrid builds work best when abilities complement one another.

Test weapons and abilities against different encounters
Try ranged attacks to open a fight, melee options against armored enemies, and magic or abilities against groups or resistant targets. Bring companion skills into the plan rather than treating companions as story-only characters. If combat feels too punishing or too easy, adjust difficulty rather than forcing a build that is not working.
Save before consequential moments
Create a manual save before major dialogue decisions, turning in companion or faction quests, entering a major area, spending rare resources, or attempting a risky quest route. Choices can have consequences, and not every outcome is necessarily reversible.
Explore at your own pace
The Living Lands contain large explorable regions and areas. Do not assume the game is a single seamless open world based only on a storefront tag. Look around for routes, resources, and encounters, and revisit companions after major story developments to catch dialogue or quest opportunities.

Adjust PC settings methodically
- Confirm Avowed is using your dedicated GPU and install current graphics drivers.
- Set a frame-rate cap appropriate to your display, then adjust resolution or available upscaling.
- If enabled, reduce or disable ray tracing first when performance is poor.
- Lower demanding options such as shadows, foliage, effects, or view distance as needed.
- Close overlays or background recording utilities if you are diagnosing stutter, and restart after driver or system updates.
Avowed PC troubleshooting
The game is missing or Install is unavailable
- Confirm the launcher account is the one that owns the game, or that a qualifying subscription is active and includes it.
- Check regional availability, launcher and Windows updates, and available storage.
- For Xbox app installs, confirm Microsoft Store and Xbox app are signed in with the intended account; Gaming Services and store licensing can affect installation separately from the game.
- For Battle.net, verify the correct account and any required Xbox link. A purchase on another store may not create an entitlement in this launcher.
The game crashes at startup
Obsidian’s crash guidance recommends checking for updates, restarting after updates, updating system components and drivers, and verifying files through the relevant platform where available. On Steam, use the game’s properties in the Library to verify installed files. Treat BIOS updates as an advanced last resort: use the motherboard manufacturer’s instructions and do not interrupt the update.
Performance is poor despite meeting minimum specifications
- Confirm the game is using the dedicated GPU, not integrated graphics, and check temperatures for throttling.
- Use an SSD, lower resolution or use the available upscaling option, and reduce ray tracing, shadows, foliage, effects, or volumetrics.
- Close recording tools and overlays while testing, and confirm the game and driver are fully updated.
- Remember that minimum requirements do not promise a specific frame rate, resolution, or preset.
There is not enough disk space
Free additional space before installing or patching rather than aiming for exactly 75 GB. The listed figure is the storage requirement; extra working room is practical advice, not a separate official requirement.
