The November 2021 leak did not point to one all-in-one Netflix Games app for iPhone. It described a plan to showcase games in Netflix’s app while distributing each playable title as a separate App Store download. Netflix launched that model globally on iOS the next day; today, its mobile games remain a membership benefit.
What the November 2021 leak actually revealed
In a report published November 8, 2021, BGR described code found in Netflix’s iOS app that pointed to games being listed inside Netflix and downloaded individually from Apple’s App Store. The games would open as separate apps and use Netflix credentials for authorization. The report attributed the findings to code analysis and reporting by Steve Moser and Mark Gurman; it was not an announcement from Apple or Netflix. BGR’s leak report

That distinction matters: the Netflix app was to serve as a discovery or launch point, not a container in which all games ran. The leak also did not establish cloud streaming or gameplay inside Netflix’s video app.
Why individual downloads mattered on iPhone
At the time, contemporary reporting understood Apple’s App Store rules as creating complications for services that wanted to offer a broad catalog of downloadable or streamed games through one app. Listing games in Netflix while distributing each playable title separately was described as the practical route for iPhone. That is context for the reported design, not a claim that Apple categorically banned Netflix games; platform rules and enforcement can change.

What Netflix launched the next day
On November 9, 2021, Netflix said games had become available globally on iOS. Members could find a games row in Netflix, choose a title, and download it separately from the App Store. The launch announcement therefore matched the central point of the leak: discovery in Netflix, separate game apps on the iPhone. Netflix’s iOS launch announcement
The first five announced games were Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3: The Game, Shooting Hoops, Card Blast, and Teeter Up. That was the launch lineup, not a description of today’s catalog.

How Netflix Games works on iPhone now
There still is no need to install a single all-in-one Netflix Games app. Netflix’s current instructions direct members to the Netflix app’s Mobile Games row, then to the App Store for the individual game. Games can also be searched for directly in the App Store. Netflix: finding and downloading mobile games
- Open the Netflix app and choose a non-Kids profile.
- Find the Mobile Games row and tap a title.
- Tap Get Game or Play Game, then tap Get or the cloud-download icon on the App Store page.
- Open the installed game. If prompted, sign in with the Netflix account email and password, then choose a Netflix profile.
Netflix says an active membership is required. Games are included without separate game fees, advertisements, or in-game purchases, according to Netflix; this is not the same as being free without a subscription. Catalog size and device support
Netflix’s catalog page, dated July 14, 2026, described a selection of more than 120 mobile games. Its examples include The Queen’s Gambit Chess, Best Guess Live, Red Dead Redemption, Football Manager 2026 Mobile, Bloons TD 6, Into the Dead 2: Unleashed, Netflix Stories, and daily puzzle games. The catalog changes, so consult Netflix’s current games catalog for the available titles rather than treating any list as complete.
Netflix’s device guidance is not expressed as one universal minimum: one support page recommends iOS 17 or later and iPadOS 17 or later for the best overall experience, while another gives iOS/iPadOS 15.0 or later as broader guidance. A particular game may require newer software or specific hardware. For example, Netflix lists Highwater for iOS/iPadOS 15 or later on an A12 Bionic chip or later. Check the individual game’s listing before downloading. Recommended device versions · Netflix Games device and availability guidance · Highwater requirements

Profiles, saves, and offline play
Netflix Games are tied to a Netflix account and selected profile. Kids profiles cannot access the games, and a profile’s maturity setting can keep a title from appearing. Game progress is associated with the selected profile; deleting that Netflix profile permanently deletes its linked progress. Netflix Games availability · Netflix account, profile, and progress guidance
How progress is stored depends on the game: Netflix says some games save locally and others use cloud saves. Progress from an earlier, non-Netflix release of a game may not transfer to its Netflix version. Offline support is also title-specific. Netflix lists Highwater as playable offline, while Netflix Stories does not support offline play; check the title’s own App Store listing or Netflix support page. If a Netflix game does not appear or install
A missing game row or unavailable title does not necessarily mean there is a Netflix account problem. Netflix lists device requirements, profile maturity, game availability on that device, and regional availability among possible reasons a title may not appear. Mobile games are downloaded from the App Store or Google Play; Netflix’s mobile-games guidance does not describe them as games for TVs. Netflix: games that cannot be found
Quick Recap
- Update the Netflix app and check your iOS or iPadOS version.
- Switch away from a Kids profile and check the profile’s maturity setting.
- Search the App Store for the exact game title, then review its compatibility and hardware requirements.
- Check available device storage and confirm the Netflix membership is active.
- If the game opens but requests credentials, sign in with the Netflix account and select the intended profile.
- If progress seems missing, verify that you are using the same Netflix account and profile; profile deletion removes associated progress.
