Meta Horizon+ Is More Like Game Pass for VR—but It Still Can’t Match It

Horizon+ offers rotating Quest games and monthly claims, plus eligible subscribers’ limited Xbox cloud-gaming benefit. It is a useful VR sampler, not a full Game Pass equivalent.

Meta Horizon+ has a Game Pass-like subscription model, and since July 21, 2026, eligible subscribers have also received a limited Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition benefit. But the comparison has a clear limit: Horizon+ remains a smaller, rotating collection of native VR games, while its Xbox addition streams ordinary Xbox games onto a virtual screen for up to 10 hours a month. It is a useful Quest subscription, not a VR equivalent of the full Game Pass service.

What Meta Horizon+ includes

Meta Quest+ is now presented as Meta Horizon+. Its core offer combines two kinds of subscription access: a rotating catalog of VR games and monthly games subscribers can claim. A claimed title is not a permanent purchase; access depends on keeping the subscription active. Horizon+ does not include every game in the Quest Store, and catalog availability can change over time and by region.

Current secondary coverage describes Horizon+ as offering more than 100 VR games, but that is a changing catalog count rather than a guaranteed permanent specification. The service’s value depends less on the headline number than on whether its current games are ones you want to play. Pure Xbox’s July 2026 coverage gives that broad count; check the live catalog for current titles before subscribing.

U.S. price and annual-plan arithmetic

Xbox’s July 21, 2026 announcement lists Horizon+ at $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year in the United States. At the annual rate, that works out to about $5 per month before tax. Twelve monthly payments would total $95.88, so the annual plan is $35.89 less—about 37.4% below paying month to month for a full year. These are U.S. price figures announced on that date and may differ by region, tax, promotion, eligibility, or later price changes. Xbox’s announcement is the source for the quoted prices.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Monthly claims are access, not ownership

The monthly claim system is distinct from the rotating catalog: a subscriber claims the offered games during the relevant period, then can access them while the subscription remains active. The available public information does not establish a reliable current menu path, exact changeover schedule, or complete terms for every account and region, so it is better to check the Quest interface or Meta app than rely on old instructions. An anecdotal Meta community report describes claimed games becoming unavailable after a subscription lapse, but it is not authoritative policy. The report is a reminder not to treat a claim as ownership.

What the Xbox Game Pass benefit adds

Beginning July 21, 2026, eligible Horizon+ subscribers in supported regions began receiving Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition. Xbox describes the benefit as access to more than 50 games, 10 hours of cloud gaming each month, and Xbox Rewards for play. A separate Microsoft account or sign-in may be required. The Starter benefit is not the same as Game Pass Ultimate or the larger catalogs offered by other Game Pass tiers.

Xbox cited games including Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Overcooked 2, Grounded, DayZ, and SnowRunner as examples. Those examples should not be read as a permanent lineup: game availability changes. The 50-plus figure refers to the Starter Edition benefit, not the entire Game Pass service. Xbox’s announcement details the offer.

Xbox games on Quest are streamed, not native VR

The Xbox benefit does not turn these games into Quest VR titles. They are cloud-streamed and displayed on a virtual screen, closer to playing on a large virtual television than entering a VR game world. The experience is therefore an extra way to play conventional Xbox games in a headset, not an expansion of Horizon+’s native VR catalog.

Xbox lists Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S, and Quest Pro as supported headsets for cloud gaming. It recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi and at least 20 Mbps download speed for best performance. Those are recommendations, not a guarantee against lag: network congestion and latency can still make streaming unpleasant. Some games are designed for conventional gamepads, and controller support or emulation should not be assumed to work universally. See Xbox’s Quest cloud-gaming page for supported devices and connection guidance; its game catalog and plan details can vary by tier, platform, region, and time.

Horizon+ versus Xbox Game Pass

A raw game-count comparison is misleading because Horizon+ supplies native VR games, while Game Pass serves a broader flat-screen ecosystem. Xbox’s Quest page describes plan libraries ranging from 50-plus to 500-plus games depending on tier; no one number describes every Game Pass subscriber’s catalog. Horizon+’s reported 100-plus VR count is likewise a changing service catalog, not a promise that every title is a major release or a fit for every player.

What matters Meta Horizon+ Xbox Game Pass
Primary experience Native games for Meta Quest VR headsets Xbox, PC, and supported cloud devices; Quest access is cloud streaming on a virtual screen
Catalog scale Described as 100-plus VR games in July 2026 secondary coverage; fluctuates Xbox describes libraries from 50-plus to 500-plus depending on plan; contents vary
New first-party releases No comparable day-one pipeline is established by the available product information Some higher tiers advertise day-one releases; benefits depend on plan
Cloud gaming on Quest Xbox Starter benefit: 10 hours per month for eligible subscribers in supported regions Cloud features and limits depend on the Game Pass plan
U.S. price signal $7.99 monthly or $59.99 annually, as announced July 21, 2026 Plan-dependent; current price is not stated here
Best fit Quest owners who want an inexpensive way to try several VR games Players seeking a larger flat-screen library across Xbox, PC, and cloud

For current Game Pass plan distinctions and Quest streaming details, consult Xbox’s plan and VR page. The Starter Edition bundled with Horizon+ should not be conflated with a higher Game Pass tier.

Why it still falls short of “Game Pass for VR”

A smaller release pipeline limits variety

VR has a smaller software market than console and PC gaming, with fewer releases and fewer large publishers building sustained catalogs for it. A rotating library can feel repetitive sooner when the pool of major VR releases is limited. Horizon+ can make discovery cheaper, but a subscription cannot manufacture a steady stream of games the market has not produced.

There is no equivalent day-one first-party engine

Game Pass benefits from a large portfolio of first-party studios and recognizable franchises. The available Horizon+ offering does not establish a comparable cadence of major Meta-funded VR games arriving on day one. That distinction matters more than whether two services can both be described as having a catalog.

Catalog size is not the same as catalog depth

A larger flat-screen library and a smaller VR library serve different play habits. VR sessions can be constrained by comfort, battery life, motion fatigue, and available play space, while conventional games can be played on a television, PC, or phone. For that reason, game count alone says little about how much value a player gets from either subscription.

Rotating access can discourage long games

When a game can leave a catalog, a subscriber may hesitate to start a long campaign or invest in a multiplayer community. That risk is easier to absorb in a broad library with frequent additions than in a smaller one where a departure can remove one of the titles a player most wanted to try. Monthly claims help, but they remain subscription access rather than ownership.

Who should subscribe?

Horizon+ makes sense for active Quest players

If you already play standalone VR and expect to try several included games in a year, Horizon+ can be an economical sampler. It is especially appealing if the monthly claims regularly include games you would otherwise buy. Before choosing annual billing, consider whether you will use the service consistently: the lower effective monthly cost only pays off if you keep playing and the included titles suit you.

Buy individual games if you want a few specific titles

If you mainly play one or two favorites, or dislike losing access when a subscription lapses, buying those games individually may fit better. That also avoids paying for months in which you do not use the headset. A prospective Quest buyer should not count Horizon+ as a substitute for buying hardware or for owning particular games.

Treat the Xbox benefit as a bonus, not the reason to expect full Game Pass

The 10-hour monthly cloud allowance can be useful for occasional play or trying a streamed game on a virtual screen. It is not unlimited streaming, and it does not provide native VR conversions. If your main goal is a broad Xbox or PC library, compare the current Game Pass plans directly rather than assuming the Horizon+ bundle supplies their full catalog or features.

Skip the cloud feature if your connection is unreliable

Cloud gaming depends on a stable connection as well as sufficient bandwidth. If your Wi-Fi is weak or congested, the Xbox add-on may be less useful even when your headset is supported. Horizon+’s VR catalog and the Xbox cloud benefit should be judged separately: poor streaming does not erase the value of native games, but it does undermine this particular bonus.

What would make Horizon+ a stronger Game Pass rival?

For the comparison to become more convincing, Meta would need to improve the native VR offer rather than simply attach more flat-screen streaming time. The most consequential changes would be:

  • More high-profile VR games entering the catalog, including Meta-funded releases at launch.
  • Longer licensing windows, clearer notice of departures, and better tools to find games worth starting.
  • A deeper slate of premium multiplayer titles, where an active player base is part of the value.
  • More included DLC or deluxe editions, plus clearer distinctions between monthly claims and rotating catalog games.
  • A larger Xbox cloud allowance and more reliable controller support, while clearly labeling streamed flat-screen games as distinct from native VR titles.

Xbox and Meta have indicated that Quest controller support for Xbox gameplay is being improved, including controller-emulation work, but rollout timing and supported games are not established as universal. Android Central’s partnership coverage discusses that controller context; treat future-facing support as subject to change.
