Play Metro 2033 Redux first, then Metro: Last Light Redux, then Metro Exodus if you want the story in order. “Metro Redux” is a two-game collection, not a single chapter: it bundles Redux editions of the first two games.
What order should you play the Metro games in?
- Metro 2033 Redux
- Metro: Last Light Redux
- Metro Exodus
The official Metro story guide labels Metro 2033 “The beginning” and Last Light “The story continues.” It places the first game in 2033 and the second in 2034. Exodus then follows Artyom, Anna, and the Aurora crew as they leave Moscow for a journey through the Russian wastelands, as described in the official Exodus story announcement.
This is the best order for narrative context, not a technical requirement: the official material supports playing from the beginning, but does not say that Exodus needs save data or completion of the earlier games.
What does Metro Redux include?
Metro Redux collects Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux. So when comparing Redux with Exodus, you are comparing a two-game collection with the later, separate entry. For a newcomer who owns neither, the collection is the straightforward way to get the first two stories; check the listing for your platform and edition.

What changes in Last Light Redux?
PLAION describes Last Light Redux as a definitive version rebuilt in a later iteration of the 4A Engine. Its product information says it includes previously released DLC, described by the publisher as adding 10 hours of bonus single-player content, along with features such as melee animations, checks of the watch and ammunition supplies, and full-body player animations. It also lists Survival and Spartan play styles and Ranger Mode. The 10-hour figure is PLAION’s content estimate, not an independent playtime measurement.
When did the Redux games release?
Steam Support lists both Redux games with a release date of August 25, 2014, and credits 4A Games as developer and Deep Silver as publisher. That date refers to the Steam listings; it should not be taken as the launch date for every console edition.

Should you start with Exodus instead?
You can choose Exodus if you already own it or would rather begin with the later journey. But for a first playthrough focused on the overarching story, the official franchise material presents the three-game path as starting with Metro 2033 Redux, continuing with Last Light Redux, and then moving to Exodus. The publisher’s three-game bundle announcement describes that collection as a way for newcomers to enter the franchise from the beginning.

Game editions and requirements vary by platform. In particular, PLAION’s PC system requirements page says Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition requires an Nvidia RTX or AMD RX GPU. This is specific to the PC Enhanced Edition; do not assume it applies to console versions or every edition of Exodus. Check the exact store listing and your hardware before purchasing.
