Stolen Fortnite accounts are being sold online, but the strongest recent public case does not establish that thousands of accounts were sold worldwide. In a federal complaint filed on February 27, 2025, Epic Games alleges that Isaac Strock sold access to hundreds of Epic accounts and earned thousands of dollars. Those are allegations, not findings from a trial. The case describes how account theft and resale can work—and why buying an account is risky and violates Epic’s rules.
What the 2025 complaint says—and what it does not
Epic’s complaint alleges that Strock gained access to other players’ accounts, sold access to hundreds of them, and advertised account information and guides for deceiving Epic support. Epic says he made thousands of dollars in alleged profits. A complaint sets out one party’s claims; it is not, by itself, proof that those claims were established in court.
The number matters. The filing supports a case involving hundreds of accounts attributed to one alleged seller. It does not establish a worldwide total of thousands of Fortnite accounts sold. Epic’s complaint also says the game had more than 500 million registered players; that is an account-registration figure, not a count of stolen or traded accounts.
Why stolen accounts attract buyers
An Epic account can include personal information, gameplay statistics, V-Bucks and cosmetic items. Rare or event-limited cosmetics can make an account more appealing to a buyer. But cosmetics cannot be transferred between accounts, according to Epic, so a buyer seeking a particular item may be tempted to buy the entire account instead.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Epic says buying and selling Epic Games accounts is prohibited and that there is no legitimate account market. A seller’s promise that an account is secure or exclusive cannot remove that risk: the original holder may still seek access, and a transaction outside Epic’s rules offers no legitimate transfer of ownership.
How account access is allegedly obtained and resold
Reused credentials
Epic’s complaint describes accounts being accessed with username-and-password combinations obtained from other breaches. When people reuse passwords, a password exposed in one service can put other accounts at risk if the same combination is tried elsewhere.

A historical case study by Night Lion Security, describing activity around 2020–2021, reports that credential-stuffing operations tested reused login combinations against Epic. It says vendors used public proxies to rotate apparent IP addresses, and that Epic added CAPTCHA challenges after the company reported the activity, slowing mass password checks. Night Lion’s account is historical security-research reporting, not a measure of today’s market.
Impersonation of the account holder
The 2025 complaint also alleges that the seller impersonated account holders to get past Epic player support. It says information such as usernames, linked-platform details, IP addresses, email information and geolocation was used to make those requests more convincing. The filing therefore describes social engineering as a separate route from trying leaked passwords: instead of only attacking a login, a fraudster tries to persuade support that they are the rightful owner.

Listings and the wider stolen-data supply chain
According to Epic’s complaint, listings appeared on Telegram with prices, V-Bucks balances and screenshots of rare cosmetics. The article does not reproduce or link to illicit listings, which could expose readers to fraud or stolen information.
The broader supply chain helps explain how criminals obtain credentials, but it should not be confused with evidence about this particular Fortnite case. In an October 29, 2024 announcement, the U.S. Department of Justice said the RedLine and META infostealers targeted millions of victim computers and stole usernames, passwords, financial information, cookies and cryptocurrency-account details. DOJ said stolen “logs” were sold on cybercrime forums and warned that stolen authentication cookies can help criminals bypass multifactor authentication. That announcement does not show that the accounts in Epic’s complaint came from RedLine or META.

What the reported figures mean
| Source and date | Reported figure | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Epic Games federal complaint, filed February 27, 2025 | Hundreds of accounts allegedly sold; thousands of dollars in alleged profits | Claims about one alleged seller in a complaint—not an adjudicated finding or a worldwide market total. |
| Epic Games federal complaint, filed February 27, 2025 | Valuable listings allegedly priced from hundreds of dollars to more than $1,000; one documented sale was approximately $425 worth of Bitcoin on September 13, 2024 | Examples described by Epic, not a typical price, verified market average or guaranteed resale value. |
| Night Lion Security historical case study, describing activity around 2020–2021 | High-profile vendors reportedly cleared tens of thousands of dollars per month | A historical security-research estimate about vendors, not current revenue or a count of Fortnite accounts sold. |
| U.S. Department of Justice announcement, October 29, 2024 | Millions of victim computers targeted and millions of unique credentials identified in the RedLine/META investigation | Evidence of a broader infostealer ecosystem, not Fortnite-specific account totals or proof of the source of accounts in Epic’s complaint. |
Prices in a listing, completed sales, seller profits and the number of accounts involved are different measures. None should be treated as a proxy for the others. In particular, historical reports of monthly vendor revenue do not establish how many accounts were sold, and the DOJ’s infostealer figures concern a broad cybercrime operation rather than Fortnite alone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why buying an account is unsafe
- It violates Epic’s rules. Epic says account buying and selling is prohibited; a purchase does not create an approved transfer of ownership.
- The seller may be able to reclaim access. The alleged use of support impersonation in Epic’s complaint illustrates why a buyer cannot assume that possession of login details means lasting control.
- The account may involve someone else’s data. Epic says accounts can contain personal information as well as game assets, and the buyer may have no reliable way to know what information is attached.
- The transaction itself may be fraudulent. A listing or screenshot does not prove that the seller controls the account or that the promised balance and cosmetics are present.
- The account may be restricted or lost. Because trading is prohibited, buyers risk losing access or facing enforcement; there is no legitimate account market that guarantees protection or recovery.
How to protect your account or respond to a compromise
Reduce the chance of account takeover
- Use a unique password for your Epic account and a different, strong password for the email account tied to it.
- Turn on two-factor authentication using Epic’s official account-security options, and protect the email account with multifactor authentication where available. Epic’s complaint confirms the company uses two-factor authentication, security questions and dedicated support, but the precise available options can change.
- Do not share login codes, passwords or account-recovery details with someone claiming to be support or offering a trade. Go to Epic through its official site or app rather than a link sent by a stranger.
- Be alert to unexpected account-security messages or changes to linked platforms, email or other account details.
If you can no longer access the account
- Use Epic’s official account-recovery and player-support process. Do not pay a third party claiming it can restore access.
- Secure the email account associated with Epic: change its password to a unique one, enable multifactor authentication if available, and review its security settings.
- Tell Epic support that you believe the account was compromised and provide the information requested through its official process. The complaint confirms Epic has dedicated support, but it does not establish a guaranteed recovery outcome for every case.
- After regaining access, change the Epic password, enable two-factor authentication, and review account details and linked platforms for changes you did not make.
Do not try to recover an account by buying it from a purported seller or by sending another person your credentials. Those steps can create another opportunity for theft and do not establish that you own the account.
