The collection refers to revised versions of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. Play them in that order, and pick Survival for a slower, survival-horror rhythm or Spartan for a more action-forward campaign.
What is Metro Redux, and what does it include?
Metro Redux is a collection of revised editions of the first two Metro games: Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux. On Nintendo Switch, Nintendo describes the collection as including both complete campaigns and previously released DLC. Check the listing for your platform and edition before buying; the Switch contents should not be assumed for every other product listing.

The games are single-player first-person shooters that blend story, exploration, stealth, survival horror and tactical combat. Their official descriptions point to gas-mask management, handmade weapons, mutants, human enemies and environmental dangers. The result is a more tense, atmospheric kind of shooter than a straightforward run-and-gun action game.
What order should you play Metro Redux in?
- Start with Metro 2033 Redux. It introduces Artyom, the Metro’s station-cities and his mission to warn others of a threat.
- Continue with Metro: Last Light Redux. The official listing presents it as the sequel, set in 2034, and continues the story.
Playing Last Light first would mean beginning with a sequel before the original game’s setup. For a first playthrough, the clear route is 2033 followed by Last Light.

- Immerse yourself in the Moscow Metro - witness One of the most atmospheric worlds in gaming brought to life on Nintendo Switch
- Brave the horrors of the Russian Apocalypse - equip your gasmask and an arsenal of hand-made weaponry as you face the threat of deadly mutants, human foes, and the terrifying environment itself
- Two campaigns, and all DLC included - Metro Redux includes two complete campaigns that combine to create One epic solo adventure, plus a further 10 hours of bonus content
- Two unique play styles: 'spartan' And 'survival' - approach the campaign as a slow burn survival horror, or tackle it with the combat skills of a spartan ranger in these two unique modes
Which mode should a beginner choose?
Both campaigns offer Survival and Spartan modes. These are different ways to play the same games, not separate campaigns.
| Mode | What it emphasizes | Good fit if you want… |
|---|---|---|
| Survival | A slower pace and survival-horror emphasis, with more attention to resource pressure. | Tension, careful exploration and a more deliberate rhythm. |
| Spartan | A more action-oriented approach, with combat skills taking a larger role. | A faster-feeling campaign with more emphasis on fighting. |
| Ranger Mode | An optional higher-pressure challenge: official descriptions say it removes HUD or UI elements, makes combat deadlier and limits resources. | A deliberately demanding run. It is not required for a first playthrough. |
The publishers describe the modes by play style, not as a tested beginner difficulty ranking. If you are unsure, choose based on the pace you want: Survival for slower survival horror, Spartan for more action.
What does Redux change from the original releases?
Steam describes Metro 2033 Redux as rebuilt in the Last Light engine and gameplay framework, carrying over improvements to AI, controls, animation and weapon handling. Its listing also notes changes to lighting, physics and dynamic weather. “Revised edition” or “remastered edition” is a useful shorthand; the description does not mean every element was remade from scratch.

How should you judge whether it is worth buying?
Start by comparing what you will actually receive, rather than treating one observed price as proof of value everywhere. Check whether a listing includes both campaigns, whether DLC is included in that specific edition, and whether you prefer digital or physical format. Then compare your local price across the collection, individual game listings and any wider franchise bundle available in your region.
- Choose the collection if you want both original story campaigns together and the listing confirms the contents you expect.
- Check individual listings if you own one game already or want to buy only one campaign.
- Consider a franchise bundle if you also want later Metro games, but inspect its live contents rather than assuming they match an earlier listing.
- Match the platform to how you play: the Switch listing specifically supports handheld, tabletop and TV modes; verify compatibility and details for other hardware on its own store page.
Steam’s Last Light Redux page showed 88% positive English user reviews from 21,253 reviews in a snapshot accessed on 2026-10-03. That is a changing user-review figure, not a critic score or a guarantee of quality. Nintendo advertises “50+ hours” for the Switch collection; this is the publisher’s estimate, not a measured or guaranteed completion time.

It is a strong match for a newcomer who wants a solo, narrative-led shooter and enjoys methodical exploration, stealth and a resource-conscious atmosphere. It may be a less natural fit if you mainly want multiplayer, a fast arcade shooter, or an established cross-platform performance comparison: the cited listings establish the single-player focus and product availability, but do not provide comparative performance benchmarks.
