Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteLeague of Legends esports does not have one universal roster rulebook: eligibility, roster limits, match entries and replacement procedures depend on the regional league and season. The clearest current example is the LCK and LCK Challengers League (LCK CL): under their 2026 rulebook, the combined roster can hold 11–20 players, but a regular match entry is five. The same rulebook sets different minimum ages for LCK and LCK CL and restricts roster changes and emergency call-ups.
Do League of Legends esports roster rules apply worldwide?
No. Riot’s 2026 handbook identifies regional leagues including the LCS, CBLOL, LEC, LCK, LPL and LCP, but it is a season and event guide, not a detailed roster-eligibility code. Rules for one league should not be treated as global rules.
The specific thresholds and procedures below are from the LCK/LCK CL rulebook amended August 19, 2026, and effective September 18, 2026. Riot’s September 8, 2026 update notice said the rulebook was revised ahead of the 2026 offseason, including changes involving contract terms and the competitive spending framework. Those updates do not make the LCK rules applicable to other regions.
Current detailed rulebooks for the 2026 LCS, CBLOL, LEC, LPL and LCP are not established here. In particular, do not use the 2024 LCS/NACL rules as a stand-in for current LCS policy.

Who is eligible to compete in the LCK and LCK CL?
The 2026 LCK/LCK CL rulebook sets league-specific age floors and requires players to have lawful status allowing them to work as players in South Korea. The league office may review eligibility and deny participation when requirements are not met.
| Competition | Minimum age in the 2026 LCK/LCK CL rulebook | Other eligibility conditions noted in the rulebook |
|---|---|---|
| LCK | Players under 17 may not compete. | Lawful work status in South Korea; eligible personal account for the Korean LoL server; additional requirements may apply to non-resident players. |
| LCK CL | Players under 15 may not compete. | Lawful work status in South Korea; eligible personal account for the Korean LoL server; additional requirements may apply to non-resident players. |
Non-resident players must submit requested documents, including proof of visa or stay status, by the integrated-roster registration deadline. The precise account, discipline and passport requirements should be checked in the rulebook rather than inferred from this summary.

How large is an LCK roster, and how many players enter a match?
The integrated roster and the match entry are different things. The 2026 LCK/LCK CL rulebook requires an integrated roster of 11–20 players. At least six must meet the LCK age threshold, and at least five must qualify for the rulebook’s minimum-salary provision. Those are LCK-system requirements, not global League of Legends roster limits.
- LCK regular match: five players are entered from the integrated roster.
- LCK CL regular match: five players are entered from the integrated roster or the optional CL-only sub-roster.
- Optional CL sub-roster: up to five players may be registered subject to rulebook conditions. A player registered only on this sub-roster can play LCK CL, not LCK.
- Playoffs: the LCK playoff roster contains 5–10 players. LCK CL has separate player and staff requirements, and duplicate registration between the playoff rosters is restricted.
If a team has LCK and LCK CL matches on the same day, a player cannot appear on both match entries. The team must submit an entry for each match by the applicable event-specific deadline.

What does “substitution” mean under these rules?
“Substitution” can mean either selecting a different player for a match entry or bringing a player into the registered roster after a roster submission. The LCK/LCK CL rules described here address entries, roster changes and emergency call-ups. They do not establish a universal in-series substitution procedure, so do not assume that a rule for one league or stage applies to another.
Changing who is entered for a match
Each match has a five-player entry, submitted by the relevant deadline. The entry comes from the roster permitted for that competition: the integrated roster for LCK, and the integrated roster or CL sub-roster for LCK CL.

Changing the registered roster
Once a roster submission has been made, adding or changing registered players is generally prohibited until the next submission deadline. The rulebook allows limited exceptions, including approved trades outside a trade-ban window. A team may remove a player during competition only if it continues to satisfy roster-composition requirements.
Emergency call-ups
An emergency call-up is not an unrestricted tactical swap. It requires league approval and is subject to conditions, including that the inability to play is for a reason outside the team’s or player’s fault and that the replacement meets qualification constraints. During group, regular-round and play-in stages, the described academy call-up route is limited to LCK CL matches; separate provisions apply to playoff emergencies.

How do contracts and official roster records affect eligibility?
Under the 2026 LCK/LCK CL rulebook, player contracts require league approval. An unapproved contract is not treated as valid under the rulebook, and a player without a valid approved contract may be refused participation. Registered players and coaches must also be included in the Global Contract Database; for covered entries, the database listing is treated as the latest roster record.
Riot’s LCS information page linked the Global Contract Database and 2024 regional rule sets for the 2024 LCS/NACL season. That historical reference does not establish current 2026 LCS contract or roster procedures.
Quick Recap
What should players and teams check before relying on a rule?
- Confirm the league and season; a handbook covering multiple regions is not a substitute for that league’s detailed rulebook.
- Check the exact age, work-status and account eligibility requirements for the competition in question.
- Separate the full registered roster from the players eligible for a particular match entry and any playoff roster.
- Find the applicable roster submission deadline and the rule for changes after submission.
- For a replacement or call-up, verify the stage-specific conditions and obtain any required league approval.
- Check current contract approval and roster-record requirements rather than relying on an older season’s LCS rules.
