Fortnite Sidekicks are customizable companions that join players in supported experiences and react to the world. They are cosmetics, not scouts: they do not detect enemies or items. Before choosing one, know that its physical appearance choices are permanent, while its name and accessories can be changed.
What are Fortnite Sidekicks?
Epic Games introduced Sidekicks as customizable companions that accompany players in Fortnite. They can appear in Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, developer-made experiences and more, but their visibility depends on the experience. Epic describes them as “your own customizable companion” in its October 30, 2025 announcement.
Sidekicks react to the world, but they do not detect enemies or items. They are companions rather than gameplay tools.
Where can you use and see a Sidekick?
Support across experiences does not mean every player sees every Sidekick. In Battle Royale, players see only Sidekicks belonging to their own team. Visibility varies in other experiences. Epic’s announcement names Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, developer-made experiences and more, but does not provide a definitive compatibility list for every current mode or island. Check the experience itself and Epic’s current support information for a specific edge case.

What can you customize—and what is permanent?
Epic says you choose permanent physical traits that determine your Sidekick’s future appearance. The official item listings likewise warn that appearance choices are permanent, so review them carefully before confirming. Names and accessories, by contrast, can be changed at any time.
Epic links support topics covering appearance customization and changing a Sidekick’s name. Its announcement establishes the general rules above; it does not settle every naming or customization edge case.
How do you get Sidekicks?
Acquisition depends on the individual Sidekick. At launch in 2025, Epic said Peels would unlock through the next Battle Pass, while Bonesy, Spike and Lil’ Raptor would arrive in the Item Shop. Epic also said players who owned the Bonesy Back Bling would be granted the Bonesy Sidekick. Those were launch-era routes, not a current full catalog.

These are item-specific listing details, not a standard Sidekick price or a guarantee that an item is currently obtainable. Shop rotations change; check Fortnite’s in-game Item Shop for current availability and cosmetic options. A listing cutoff is not evidence that an item will return on a particular date.
What Sidekicks can creators use in UEFN?
Epic’s June 5, 2026 creator announcement says Sidekicks can be used as scriptable NPCs in islands, with appearance customization through preset channels. Epic describes four to eight channels, depending on the Sidekick. As the announcement puts it, “You can’t build a new Sidekick from scratch, but the variant range is wide enough to give every creature in your island a unique appearance and personality.”

- Epic says all Fortnite Sidekicks are available in the NPC Spawner, but licensed Sidekicks cannot be used as NPCs.
- Cosmetic Sync can make a Sidekick NPC match a joining player’s equipped Sidekick; Epic says this can include licensed Sidekicks.
- Available customization options vary by Sidekick.
These creator features do not establish a universal player-facing compatibility matrix for every island.

There is no universally best Sidekick established by the official listings. Compare the details that matter to your intended use:

- Acquisition: Check whether it is offered through a Battle Pass, the Item Shop, a quest or an ownership grant.
- Price and availability: Confirm the current listing in-game rather than relying on an old listing snapshot.
- Unlocks: Look for item-specific quests or additional rewards.
- Customization: Review which traits are permanent and what accessories or other options can be changed.
- Visibility: Consider the experience you play; visibility rules vary, and Battle Royale shows only your team’s Sidekicks.
- Creator use: If you are building an island, check whether the Sidekick is licensed, since licensed Sidekicks cannot be used as NPCs.
