To change your own Sidekick, open Locker > Sidekicks. To stop showing your own companion, unequip it there. Epic’s documented option to show Sidekicks to everyone or only their owner is an island setting for creators using UEFN—not a global player setting for hiding other people’s Sidekicks.
How to change your Sidekick’s appearance
- Open the Locker.
- Select Sidekicks on the left.
- Select your displayed Sidekick to view the available Sidekicks.
- Choose an available appearance option.
- Select NEXT STEP and review the appearance.
- Hold LOCK-IN to confirm.
- Select a name or choose to randomize it, then select FINISH CUSTOMIZATION.
Epic warns that appearance choices become permanent after lock-in. Not every Sidekick is customizable, and owned customizations must have unique appearances. Review the preview carefully before confirming. Epic also says you can purchase the same Sidekick more than once for different appearances, but you cannot use duplicate appearances. See Epic’s Sidekick customization instructions and its repeat-purchase FAQ.
How to change a Sidekick’s name
- Open the Locker and select the Sidekick.
- Open the three-dot menu and select Rename.
- Enter a name or choose RANDOMIZE NAME, then select SAVE.
A Sidekick marked as not customizable cannot have its name or appearance changed. Cabined Accounts receive a selection of names. See Epic’s naming support page.
How to stop showing your own Sidekick
In the Locker’s Sidekicks section, leave no Sidekick equipped. Epic’s Sidekick quest instructions identify an empty paw icon for players who have no Sidekick equipped. This removes your own equipped companion; it does not hide Sidekicks belonging to teammates or opponents. See Epic’s Sidekick quest support.

Can you hide other players’ Sidekicks?
Epic’s reviewed player-support documentation does not establish a general Fortnite setting that hides other players’ Sidekicks across experiences. The visibility controls Epic documents are for creators configuring islands in UEFN. Island settings can enable or disable player Sidekicks, choose whether a Sidekick is visible to everyone or only its owner, and disable automated reactions. Epic’s ecosystem notes say Sidekicks are disabled by default in the described island settings. These controls apply to an island, not to a player-wide display preference. See Epic’s UEFN Sidekick creation guide and Fortnite 38.00 ecosystem notes.
Which Sidekick setting should you use?
| What you want to do | Where to look | What the control affects |
|---|---|---|
| Choose, customize, or name your own Sidekick | Player Locker > Sidekicks | Your own Sidekick |
| Stop displaying your own Sidekick | Unequip it in Locker > Sidekicks | Your own equipped companion |
| Set Sidekick visibility or reactions for an island | That island’s UEFN settings | Players and Sidekicks in the creator-configured island |
Fortnite’s Locker labels and creator controls may change with updates; Epic’s documentation reviewed here describes the controls above.
