If Peacock buffers, freezes, spins indefinitely, shows a black screen, or will not start a video, first reduce other activity on your network and test the connection. Then close and reopen Peacock, restart the playback device, clear the app’s cache and data, and reinstall only if needed. Check that your exact device and software are supported. These steps can narrow down common causes, but they cannot identify the cause of every individual playback failure.
Why Peacock buffers or gets stuck loading
Streaming video arrives in packets. If delivery of the next packet is delayed, playback may pause while the player waits for more data. Network congestion or large uploads and downloads on the same connection can contribute, but buffering can also involve the app, device, or service.
Peacock Help Center recommends a minimum internet speed of 3.0 Mbps to enjoy its content. It recommends at least 8 Mbps for certain high-quality live events and ultra-high-definition premium content. These are Peacock’s published recommendations, not guarantees of uninterrupted playback. A speed-test result is only one clue: it does not show by itself whether Wi-Fi is stable or whether the app or device is working properly.
Try these fixes in order
- Reduce competing network use. Pause other streams, online games, and large downloads or uploads on the same network, then try Peacock again.
- Test the connection on the playback device. If possible, run a speed test from that device and compare the result with Peacock’s recommendations above. A result below them is a reason to investigate the connection; a higher result does not rule out instability or an app/device problem.
- Close and relaunch Peacock. Exit the app fully, close other apps running in the background, and reopen Peacock.
- Restart the device. Unplug it or fully power it down, wait 20 seconds, then plug it back in or reboot it. This is the restart interval specified by Peacock Help Center.
- Clear Peacock’s cache and data. Use the device’s settings. The menus and effects vary by device, so consult its instructions if you are unsure where to find the controls or what data clearing removes.
- Reinstall Peacock if the earlier steps fail. Uninstall the app, then install it again using the device’s official app store or instructions.
If buffering continues, compare Wi-Fi with a wired test
If both your playback device and router support Ethernet, try a wired connection as a diagnostic experiment and compare playback with Wi-Fi. A change in the symptom can help you investigate the connection; it does not prove the cause, and Peacock’s cited troubleshooting guidance does not specifically prescribe Ethernet. Check that both endpoints have the required ports before buying anything.

Check whether your device and software are supported
If Peacock will not launch, playback keeps failing, or the device is older, compare the exact model and software version with Peacock’s current supported-device list. Compatibility requirements can change. At the time the list was accessed on October 3, 2026, it specified Chrome 125 or later, Firefox 127 or later, and Edge 125 or later on Windows or Mac; Safari 17.3 or later on Mac; Android 7.0 or later; and iOS 16 or later. It also listed platform-specific restrictions: Fire TV and Fire Tablet support required Fire OS 6 or later, with Fire Max 11 Tablet not currently supported; Apple TV HD (4th generation or later) required tvOS 18 or later; and Samsung Smart TVs from 2017 or later were supported. Treat those version and model details as a dated snapshot and verify them on the live page.

The sequence checks common local causes, but it does not establish whether a particular failure is caused by Peacock, the home network, or the playback device. The official pages cited here do not confirm an active outage. If you contact Peacock Support, note the device model, app or operating-system version, exact error message, whether all titles fail, your speed-test result, and whether other streaming services work. Those details make it easier to describe what you have already checked.
