Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klíma hopes that if Grand Theft Auto VI succeeds at a higher price, it will make other developers less wary of charging more for games. That is his argument about the economics of game development—not evidence that GTA 6 will cause publishers to raise prices across the industry.
What Martin Klíma wants GTA 6 to prove
In an interview reported by PC Gamer on October 1, 2026, Klíma said studios are contending with higher development costs and that raising a game’s unit price is one remaining way to bring in more revenue. He described developers as afraid to take that step and said he hopes GTA can “blaze the trail.”
Klíma put the idea plainly: “The last thing you can do is to increase the unit price. That would help a lot, but everybody’s scared to death about it. Now, hopefully, GTA will blaze the trail, and it will allow us to increase the cost.” He also argued that Rockstar and Take-Two are among the few companies able to risk a price increase, which he considers overdue and necessary for the business to survive.
Those are Klíma’s views, not a formal Warhorse Studios position or a demonstrated market forecast. Whether one blockbuster’s pricing gives other publishers cover—and whether players accept similar prices elsewhere—remains unestablished by his remarks.

Why Klíma says higher prices matter
Klíma’s case is that making games costs more, while studios have limited ways to increase revenue beyond selling more copies or charging more per copy. In that framing, a higher unit price could improve revenue without requiring a larger audience. The interview supports this as his diagnosis; it does not quantify development-cost increases or establish that raising prices is the only viable approach for the industry.
The unanswered question is how players respond. A high-profile release could demonstrate that some buyers will pay more for a particular game, but that alone would not show that the same price works for other games, studios, or audiences. Nor does the reported pricing prove competitors will follow.

Klíma is not making the case as a GTA fan
Klíma said the Grand Theft Auto series “doesn’t appeal to me at all” and that he fails to understand its popularity. He also praised the games’ technological ambition. His comments about the franchise’s potential influence are therefore an industry-pricing argument, not an expression of personal enthusiasm for the series.
