Grand Theft Auto VI’s busy week mixed character-focused coverage with real-world promotion. A Love magazine cover story put Jason and Lucia in the spotlight, while a reported Brooklyn mural, promotional packages and a Miami Heat event brought Vice City into the real world. A Game Informer cover story also reportedly shared details about the game’s wildlife and weather.
What happened with GTA 6 this week?
In an October 2, 2026 roundup, Kotaku’s Zack Zwiezen described a concentrated burst of GTA VI publicity: new character imagery and comments from game writers, reports of branded promotion, and coverage of a Game Informer cover story. The items do not all carry the same weight: some are quoted announcements, while others are reports of sightings or promotional activity.
What did the GTA 6 writers say about Jason and Lucia?
Love magazine shared new images and comments from game writers Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern and Alexa D’Agostino ahead of an issue featuring Jason and Lucia on its cover, according to Kotaku.
“We wanted both protagonists to be vulnerable, tough, flawed, right sometimes, wrong sometimes, able to learn from each other,” Gauvey-Kern said.

“When you are focusing on writing a fully realised person with their own wants, you’re going to get something perfectly imperfect—with clichés, but also undeniably real,” D’Agostino said.
The comments describe an intention to portray both protagonists as imperfect people who can learn from one another. They speak to character-writing goals, not specific story events.

What was the Brooklyn mural report?
Kotaku reported that a mural featuring Jason and Lucia was being painted in Brooklyn. The account traces the sighting to a social post credited to Complex Pop Culture on October 1, which in turn credited a Reddit user. That makes it a reported sighting; the account does not establish that Rockstar commissioned or installed the mural.
What was the Miami Heat’s Vice City event?
The Miami Heat announced an event called “A Night in Vice City,” scheduled for November 18, 2026, in a post reproduced by Kotaku. The team’s post said: “Bright lights. Vice City. A Night in Vice City tips off November 18.” Kotaku reported that the event would feature a GTA VI-inspired court, Vice City uniforms and themed merchandise. The date and event details reflect the announcement as reported on October 2, 2026.

What promotional items were reported?
Zack Zwiezen said Rockstar mailed him promotional goods, including a pink canvas bag and stickers, and reported that creators received similar packages. Kotaku also mentioned Miami Heat merchandise connected with the Vice City promotion. These reports show promotional activity; they do not establish that the items are generally available for retail purchase.
What did the Game Informer cover story reportedly reveal?
Kotaku reproduced Rockstar’s September 29 announcement that the GTA VI cover story was free in the Game Informer app, with a print subscription offered. As relayed by Kotaku, the feature included new screenshots and discussed more than 150 animal species, hurricanes, tropical storms and legendary creatures. The animal count and feature details here are attributed to Game Informer through Kotaku’s October 2 roundup, rather than presented as independently confirmed.

Kotaku also said a Disney World parody was not expected, but its roundup excerpt did not provide the underlying original-source detail beyond linking to a separate report. That point is less substantiated in the roundup than the cover-story details it attributes to Game Informer.

The announcements and reports spanned different kinds of publicity: the Love comments focused on character intent, the Game Informer coverage reportedly offered game details, and the mural, mailed goods and Miami Heat event extended the Vice City theme into public-facing promotion. Read together, they make for a busy promotional week without turning every sighting or merchandise mention into a confirmed game feature or retail offer.
