That makes it the most prevalent card in Steam’s displayed survey list, not necessarily the world’s best-selling GPU or the right choice for a particular PC.
What Steam’s September 2026 survey shows
In Steam’s September 2026 overall video-card distribution, the RTX 5070 is listed at 6.15%, ahead of the other cards in the displayed ranking. Steam’s separate DirectX 12 video-card table gives the RTX 5070 a 6.35% share. Those are two different tables in the same survey, so the figures should not be treated as interchangeable.
Steam’s overall table shows the RTX 5070 rising from 3.77% in August to 6.15% in September, a displayed increase of 2.38 percentage points. This is a change in the survey’s reported distribution between those months; it does not establish how many cards were sold or explain why the share changed.
Why other reports give a different percentage
Two reports published October 2, 2026, by Hardware Busters and TweakTown quote 5.86% for the RTX 5070 in September and 3.56% in August. Those numbers conflict with the figures currently displayed in Steam’s live September page. The available accounts do not establish why they differ, so it is more accurate to identify the source and month than to combine or reconcile the percentages.

What “most popular on Steam” does—and does not—mean
It is a survey ranking
The result means the RTX 5070 leads the video-card distribution shown by Steam for September 2026. Steam’s page is a hardware survey, not a complete census of every PC gamer or a global record of GPU sales.
It is not proof of a sudden wave of purchases
A month-to-month change in survey share cannot, by itself, tell you whether users bought new cards, changed hardware, or were affected by survey participation or reporting changes. PC Gamer’s March 2026 coverage described an earlier Steam-survey jump for the RTX 5070 from 2.87% in January to 9.42% in February. That kind of movement is a reason to describe the figures as survey results, rather than treating them as a direct sales tally.

It does not determine which card you should buy
Popularity does not measure frame rates, value, power use, or fit for your case and workload. Steam’s displayed overall list also includes the RTX 5060, RTX 5060 Ti, and RTX 4060, but the ranking alone does not compare those cards for a buyer. A purchase decision needs current prices and relevant performance testing, as well as checks for power supply, cooling, memory needs, and the specific card model’s dimensions.
