A reported run of quantized Qwen3.8-27B came close to the frontier-model group’s partial score on one DeepSWE task—but it did not pass the task. The tester reported 40 of 43 hidden tests passed, a partial score of 0.980, and a binary pass score of zero. The distinction matters: this is an interesting single-task result, not evidence that a local 27B model matches frontier systems across coding benchmarks.
What the one-task result actually shows
Reddit user Distinct-Pie2389 reported running Qwen3.8-27B in the unsloth dynamic IQ4_XS quantization on a DeepSWE task. The post says the run retained all 109 existing tests, passed 40 of 43 hidden tests, scored 0.980 on the partial measure, and received zero on the benchmark’s binary pass measure. In other words, it performed strongly by the partial metric but missed three hidden tests and did not count as a task pass. The original post and correction contain the tester’s account; the run was not independently reproduced in the available reporting.
The tester also reported 12 of 12 cases passed on a separate code-review task. That result is distinct from the DeepSWE score and should not be folded into it as though both were one benchmark result.
The corrected frontier comparison
The post first circulated with a 96.6% comparator, but its author later corrected that figure: 96.6% was the mean partial score across all published trials on the task, not the frontier subset. For that subset, the author gave a 99.8% partial score and an 85.3% pass rate. Against those figures, the local run’s 98.0% partial score was close, while its zero binary pass result was not equivalent to the subset’s pass rate.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That correction should take precedence over summaries that repeated the earlier number. Wccftech’s Oct. 1, 2026 report included the earlier 96.6% figure in its summary. Its coverage provides context for the story, but the original poster’s correction is the relevant source for the corrected comparator.
What hardware and software the tester reported
The account describes a local setup using llama.cpp b11115 with llama-swap v257 on one RTX 4090 with 24 GB of VRAM. The model file was a 14.25 GB GGUF, the context setting was 196,608 tokens, and the reported peak VRAM use was 22,934 MiB. These are the tester’s reported settings and measurements, not a universal hardware requirement or a guarantee that another machine will reproduce the result or its speed.

Wccftech also reported that a 16 GB GPU could run the model with context-window adjustments. That is a reported implementation possibility, not a tested minimum established by the Reddit run. The 24 GB card and long context setting describe this particular setup; neither implies that buying the same GPU would produce the same score.
Why this does not establish broad coding-model parity
A single task can show that a specific model artifact and inference setup handled that particular test well. It cannot establish performance across DeepSWE’s full task set, other coding benchmarks, or software engineering work involving changing repositories, tools, and iterative testing. The poster says the benchmark contains 113 tasks and that leading cloud models score about 70–74% across it; that range is the poster’s account, not a substitute for a current leaderboard derived from underlying benchmark data.

There is also a separate model-card result that should not be confused with this anecdote. DWS LLC’s Hugging Face card for a 4-bit Qwen3.8-27B conversion lists a score of 42.2 on DeepSWE 1.1, alongside results for other benchmarks and evaluation details in its footnotes. That is a model-card-reported benchmark result under its own conditions, not a replication of the Reddit user’s one-task run. The model card is the source for those figures.
Other evaluation evidence answers a different question
In an Aug. 18, 2026 exploratory evaluation, Syed Asad Ali compared Qwen3.8-27B with Claude Opus 4.6 and Qwen3.8-Max on 26 closed-book prompts. Ali described the technical-reasoning signal as impressive, but noted that the evaluation kept one generation per model per test, used human scoring and incomplete blinding, and did not estimate run-to-run variation. Providers, possible system prompts, and reasoning settings differed; latency was not normalized for hardware. The exercise also did not use a local Qwen quantization, a real repository, terminal or browser tools, or a compiler-driven correction loop. It is exploratory evidence about those prompts, not confirmation of the DeepSWE result. Ali’s evaluation and limitations describe its scope.

How to judge similar model comparisons
Scores are meaningful only when the evaluations being compared are aligned. Before treating two results as evidence of a model gap—or its disappearance—check the conditions that can change what the score means:
- Task and benchmark: Is it the same task, benchmark version, and test set?
- Model artifact: Are the exact model and quantization the same?
- Inference setup: Which engine, harness, context length, reasoning settings, and sampling parameters were used?
- Scoring rule: Is the figure a partial score, a binary task pass, or an aggregate across tasks?
- Repetition: How many runs were made, and is variation reported?
- Task environment: Did the model work from a prompt alone, or use tools, a real repository, and an iterative test-and-fix loop?
- Hardware: What system ran the model, and are speed claims measured under comparable conditions?
Those distinctions are especially important here because the headline comparison is between a partial score on one task and a frontier subset’s partial score and pass rate. They are related figures, but they do not say the same thing.
