Danganronpa 2×2 confirms new character portrait illustrations, but Spike Chunsoft has not published a complete character-by-character profile or sprite inventory in the announcements available so far. The game returns to the cast and setting of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair with an updated retelling and a new scenario, Slayhem mode. One new Slayhem character, Sakutaro Higashi, has been revealed.
What character art has Danganronpa 2×2 revealed?
Spike Chunsoft says that “Character portraits will feature new illustrations.” Its July 2026 announcement includes some revamped character images, confirming that the returning cast is receiving new portrait art rather than simply relying on the original presentation. The announcement does not provide a complete written catalogue of character biographies, sprite poses, or expressions.
The images shown in that announcement are identified as screenshots from the Japanese development version, with English subtitles added for illustration. Spike Chunsoft says they do not represent the final English version, so small visual details in those screenshots should be treated as provisional. Which characters and story versions are included?
The game returns to the Hope’s Peak Academy students’ tropical school trip on Jabberwock Island, where the peaceful outing turns into a killing game. It offers two modes from the start: Original mode, an updated retelling of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Slayhem mode, a different scenario set in the same game world with alternate victims, culprits, and tricks. The publisher estimates that Slayhem contains approximately 20% more content than Original mode; that is Spike Chunsoft’s estimate, not an independently measured playtime or scene count.

Who is Sakutaro Higashi?
Sakutaro Higashi is a newly announced character who debuts in Slayhem mode. His Japanese voice actor is Natsuki Hanae, and his English voice actor is Griffin Burns. Spike Chunsoft’s September 2026 announcement does not disclose Higashi’s Ultimate talent; Burns’ promotional comment explicitly leaves that detail for players to discover in the game.
