Both have 32 RDNA 4 compute units, a 128-bit memory interface and boost clocks up to 3.13GHz. The $50 difference buys twice the VRAM; for demanding 1440p settings and texture-heavy games, the 16GB version is the safer choice.
What AMD announced
AMD introduced the RX 9060 XT at Computex 2025 as a graphics card designed for 1440p gaming. Its announcement highlights FSR 4, HYPR-RX, Fluid Motion Frames and second-generation AI accelerators. The stated boost clock is up to 3.13GHz; it is a maximum specification, not a guarantee that every card will hold that frequency in every game.
| Specification | RX 9060 XT 8GB | RX 9060 XT 16GB |
|---|---|---|
| US suggested entry price at announcement | $299 | $349 |
| Memory | 8GB GDDR6 | 16GB GDDR6 |
| RDNA 4 compute units | 32 | 32 |
| Memory interface | 128-bit | 128-bit |
| Boost clock | Up to 3.13GHz | Up to 3.13GHz |
| Typical board power | 150W | 160W |
These are AMD’s announced specifications and suggested prices, not a promise of what every board partner model costs at retail. AMD’s Computex announcement gives the launch positioning and configuration details.
Is the 16GB model worth $50 more?
For most players choosing between these two versions, the extra $50 is easier to justify than the 8GB card’s lower entry price. Twice the VRAM gives games more room for high-resolution textures and demanding settings, particularly at 1440p. The 8GB version is the budget option if minimizing the purchase price matters more than that headroom.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
This is a capacity difference, not a claim that the 16GB card has twice the processing speed. Both versions have the same 32 compute units and 128-bit interface; the 16GB card’s stated typical board power is 10W higher.
Tom’s Hardware’s review, published June 10, 2025, described the 16GB card as a strong value with plenty of VRAM and cautioned that 8GB versions are “a completely different ballgame.” It reported 8GB cards around $299 and 16GB cards starting around $389 at that time—so the latter was above AMD’s $349 suggested entry price. Those are review-time street-price observations, not current or guaranteed prices. Tom’s Hardware’s review provides that context.

- 16GB GDDR6 Memory on 128‑Bit Bus: Equipped with 16GB of high‑speed GDDR6 memory running at 20 Gbps, offering ample capacity and bandwidth for modern game textures and creative applications.
Can the RX 9060 XT run games at 1440p?
1440p is AMD’s stated design target, but the resolution alone does not determine the experience. Game, graphics settings, ray tracing, texture demands and use of upscaling all affect performance. The 16GB model is the more appropriate configuration for demanding 1440p settings; the 8GB card trades that memory headroom for a lower starting price.
For performance context, Ars Technica’s June 4, 2025 review found the RX 9060 XT generally a little faster than Nvidia’s RTX 5060, while generally 10–15% behind the RTX 5060 Ti. In its testing, the 16GB RX 9060 XT was usually 40–60% faster than the 2021 RTX 3060. These are that publication’s review results, not a guarantee for every game or system. Ars Technica’s review details its comparisons.

Power supply and connections
AMD recommends a minimum 450W power supply for the 8GB RX 9060 XT. Its 8GB product page also lists PCIe 5.0 x16, DisplayPort 2.1a, HDMI 2.1b, 20Gbps memory speed and up to 320GB/s memory bandwidth, plus AV1 decode and encode. The 16GB page confirms the 128-bit interface, PCIe 5.0 x16 bus and modern display and video support. Check the specific board partner card’s requirements and connectors before buying, rather than assuming every custom model is identical.
How to weigh the RX 9060 XT against the RTX 5060 Ti
Available review comparisons place the RX 9060 XT below the RTX 5060 Ti by about 10–15% in Ars Technica’s testing. That comparison alone does not settle which card is the better purchase: retail price, VRAM configuration, ray-tracing needs and preference for each vendor’s upscaling features also matter. AMD promotes FSR 4 and HYPR-RX for the RX 9060 XT, but the announcement does not establish a universal advantage in ray tracing or image quality. Compare current prices for the exact cards and game features you use.

Suggested price versus what you pay
The $299 and $349 figures are US suggested entry prices announced in 2025. They are not necessarily the current price, and individual board partner cards may be listed higher or lower. Tom’s Hardware’s June 2025 review-time observations—about $299 for 8GB and from $389 for 16GB—show why it is worth checking the exact model and seller rather than treating the suggested figure as a street-price guarantee.
